hey all, does anyone know of any good vehicle rigging tutorials, im particularily looking for creating physics, my car has shocks and i want to impliment somthing that will alow the wheels to interact with the ground without using any simulations,

thanks in advance

ps, i did a search here but i just noticed that the search only looks at the last two months..!! im posting this in the support forum but i know ive seen posts on vehicle rigging before, but i cant search for them nor find them

Stay tuned to ( because we will soon be releasing a video tutorial on how to create a DRIVABLE CAR RIG, complete with suspensions, breaks, gear and steering controls, and interacts with the underlying terrain.

Someone kindly posted (at xsi base) a link to a car rig addon he created, haven't tried it yet but here's the link;action=display;threadid=9653

( he uploaded his addon in xsinet, so you can try a search for car rig in xsinet, i allready downloaded it but have no time to test it right now) If it works for you thank him :wise:

Sri but the link inside XSIbase doesnt lead to the addon, i searched as well and nothing turned up with car rig

thanks though :)

Hi SeaQuake,

When will this video tutorial be ready??

Hi, our Interactive Vehicle Rig will be released very soon.
Tomorrow, we will be releasing some preview videos to show the features of the rig, and I am sure that you will like what you will see.
If you have any questions, post them here or check our website in the next couple of days

Hello SeaQuake I just came from your site and I saw that you are selling Character Animation Vol I . I saw the following. "The process of creating a rig to animate the car with automatic wheel rotations", and "The process of using animatable pivots to animate the car on uneven terrain".
I saw that this was done on a toy box car. Would your new tutorial be used on a highly detailed car?

Hi MyAMeE,

The Character Animation Vol I videos are an Introductoray course into character Animation. One of the topics covered is how to create a toycar animation. It does not contain any procedural features, it just shows how to manually animate a car over uneven terrain with automatic wheel rotations.

Interactive Vehicle Rig, otoh, teaches the process of creating a fully interactive rig that enables the user to:
1. Drive the car with a Gas slider (Interactive)
2. Steer the car with a Steer slider (Interactive)
3. Breaks slider to stop the car at any time with varialbe strength (Interactive)
4. Physical momentum feature to make the car react to a sudden stop by naturally leaning forward (Interactive)
5. Physical suspensions that react to driving the car on uneven terrain (Interactive)
6. Natural car motion over uneven terrain.

By interactive it is meant that the values can be changed while the simulation is playing, and be recorded or keyframed in the curve editor.
It's very similar to driving a car in a car game.
The videos also cover techniques on binding a "real car" mesh to the rig, and make the sliders affect the normal behavior of the "real car" wheels.

I hope to have some free time this eveninig and release some preview videos. Stay tuned!

Great looking demo!

One Question: you're talking about dynamics. Does that mean that you need rigid body dynamics for the car rig?

Hi comanche,
Yes the rig is based on Rigid Body Dynamics.

Hi comanche,
Yes the rig is based on Rigid Body Dynamics.
 Essentials and above only for this rig type. Does look really fun to do too, will have to pass on this one for now.
