View Full Version : Custom Swatch Palettes from Image

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to create a custom swatch from an image using Photoshop 6.0. I read a tutorial that automatically created one by reading the colors from an image, but it was in Photoshop 5.0. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you can go to image ready or save for web.
in there you will see the color table on the right.
from there you can save the color table it is an .act file
back in photoshop in the swatches pallet you can load that .act file.
cool huh? you may have to change the file type in the pulldown menu under the file name dialog box to show the .act files... it defaults to .aco

I hope that helps.

Hi KOryH. Thank you for helping me out. I also found another way to get a swatch palette from an image. It is
1. Convert the image to an indexed image
2. In the indexed color menu change the Palette type to "Custom"
3. A swatch palette should pop up which contains the colors in your image
4. You can then save the palette as a .ACT(Color Table) or .PAL(Microsoft Palette) file.

You can control the size of the swatch by reducing the Colors entry space in the menu from 256 to 128. Hope this helps for someone out there using Photoshop 6 instead of Photoshop 5. lol
