View Full Version : Serious Rendering problem

Hi Fellas,

We had tried the new 30 days trial of Foundation. We ran into a serious problem immediately.

We have the following scene:

One wall with a window opening in it.
One plane acting as a ground.
One light lighting through the window.

Now the problem is that there is A LIGHT SPOT around the projection of the window, as the light goes through the wall...

- Try turning the umbra on your light down to zero.

By the way. How MR is affected by the scale of the scene? I was a LW user before, and I`ve used to work in real world unit, but in XSI I see only units. Somewhere I read that XSI uses 10 cm as 1 unit. Is it right?

It's what most of us use. A XSI unit can be ANY size, but 10cm works fine. Although it still depends on the scale of your scene object. Also dynamics work with the values of 10 (gravity and such)
Modelling a virus you would be lost scaling 1 unit down to a nanometer ;)
Also the skeleton/rigging tools don't like it whne you scale them too much.

- Really, really large scenes and really, really small scenes can cause clipping/accuracy problems.
- XSI Units can be what ever you want them to be, where I work we use 1 unit as 1 foot.

Hi Ed,

Over here we do the occasional architectural modelling, so 1 unit = 10 cm and and my hacked primitives spdl's creating objects of size 10, I don't have to calculate that much ;)
