Well here is a small sketch it's not great, I'm not a great drawer by any means hehe but at least it gets me thinking I'm going to do a couple more soon but here is the start.
08 August 2002, 02:03 PM
Ok, I've been working on the model for a bit now but I hadn't had a chance to update this thread, here is another sketch.
08 August 2002, 02:09 PM
Here is a rendered image that I'm working on, I'm gonna try to think what I would put on a machine like that and think of everything you need for any thing that might come up I find it help a lot for branstorming ideas...let me know what you guys think.
08 August 2002, 03:21 PM

08 August 2002, 09:30 PM
Great stuff Raptor! That deck chair looks great, it could even turn into a dentist's chair!:D
Hey, I checked out your site. Nice work!
08 August 2002, 03:30 AM
Thanks erilaz, ya hair is cool but I'm not sure if it fits I might replace it with something else hehe I would do a toilet but too many people are using that allready I gotta think when I get a clear head....are you in this contest?
08 August 2002, 03:45 AM
Yup, i certainly am! (there's a link in my signature down the bottom!).
No more toilets! :D
08 August 2002, 03:47 AM
hows the fans spin ? whats the source of power?
08 August 2002, 03:49 AM
I'm going to be putting an engine in place of the big box in the back just haven't gotten around to it yet
08 August 2002, 03:50 AM
ps. the small fans all have motors on the backs of them which are electric and will be powered by solar panels which I haven't made yet either.:applause:
08 August 2002, 05:57 AM
Anyway, I can't believe my text is gone.
You can actually use the same main engine to power all the fans as well as the main prop. To avoid a whole system failure in the event one fan fails, you can use a clutch (or even a small transmission system) quite easily.
Sorry for the lack of communication to you on the film, I've been studying electrical systems and mechanical designs (I'm building an actual vehicle sort of - I hope...). So if you need a diagram for the clutch I can easily make one for you. It would be more efficient, because you can then use the solar panels for a backup battery in case you get into a storm or underneath/in a cloud.
Why put the engine in a box? just make the engine there with exhaust and whole thing visible so it looks more homemade. The only problem I see with the engine is placement. Being in the back that means much more weight is going to be there. You will need to compensate by either putting the main prop for propulsion in the back or more little fans.
What is the main prop made of anyway?
Instead of toilets you can put a tv and fridge for the couch potato. Don't forget cup holders for the many beers.
To get a really horrid makeshift, homemade look, you can put like all duct tape around the base/platform. or electrical tape that's probably more cost-efficient and more aesthetic ;).
I'd better post this before I lose all my writing.
08 August 2002, 07:02 PM
thanks polymath hehe been long time, if you could get me a diagram of a clutch it would be great...what do youmean all your text is gone? I've been crazy busy as well I just got back from Siggraph and before I've been preparing to go. Anyway here is an update thanks for all the feedback. I think I'mgonna leave the engine in the back cause I still want to put a lot more stuff in the front.
08 August 2002, 07:53 PM
hehe ok well since my last couple msges got lost here is the latest update of my flying machine...
08 August 2002, 02:29 AM
This is a new adition to my flying machine I haven't mounted it on yet but the other chair was just too metal like and looked very heavy, this is something you could find more at your house, still heavy but as much :)
08 August 2002, 09:29 AM
The chair looks really good  no crits on that....
08 August 2002, 02:02 PM
Thanks Fetus23, I'm gonna post some more pics today we'll see how it fits in.
08 August 2002, 12:25 AM
Just a couple of updates and trying out some new colors
08 August 2002, 10:44 PM
update...any more comments ?
08 August 2002, 01:41 AM
ok added a lot more detail in the back, the engine is a lot bigger now still gotta add a lot of junk such as bags and whatever you take on a trip plus other home made stuff its' getting pretty complex allready though and the geometry is pretty heavy...
08 August 2002, 01:42 AM
08 August 2002, 01:45 AM
and one more :bounce:
08 August 2002, 01:53 AM
hey this is looking very cool... I love the addition of the new chair on this ride... model on... :D
08 August 2002, 01:59 AM
Thanks gidgit I hate how much detail is lost just being that far away, I'm gonna have to make this into some kind of animation with a character to show off all the detail :)
08 August 2002, 03:23 AM
lol it looks like your machine is a brother of mine (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=16996) ;)
we gotta let them race against each other when they're finished :wip:
08 August 2002, 03:34 AM
hehe sure fist I'm up for that, anyday
I just have to wait till my design specs for Warp Engines come in so I can model them and put them on
08 August 2002, 03:50 AM
yeah well the race would be in-atmosphere of course ;) ;) ;)
right now i got 800 rpm in my machine, but i'll bring a 3.5k hp / 24 cylinder engine just to be sure
oh i just noticed i still have to add fuel tanks, might do the performance good :airguitar
give us updates
08 August 2002, 10:29 PM
No crits at all. Every update shows major improvement. It really looks as if it was made in the backyard (meant as a compliment:) )
What about a character ? thought of any ?
08 August 2002, 10:32 PM
Hehe thank you rok, umm not yet I still want to add so much more to the machine that I haven't had a chance yet but I'm definitelywill be making one since I want to make a short animation after wards :) Stay Tuned
08 August 2002, 11:09 PM
Just wanted to post another update got more stuff in there and also started to texture it I know you can't submit textured models but I needed to do that to regain some more interest so I can go all the way with this model and get it finished.
08 August 2002, 11:31 PM
Wow.... thats something different. Like taken from that movie Wild Wild West starring Will Smith.
I honestly have to admit that I donīt like these textures at all. I would prefer the untextured version.
My suggestion would be to skip the texturing part for now and start modelling the character.
This post was not meant to put the image down or anything itīs just that Iīd imagined something completely different texturewise. Still itīs an awesome model.
08 August 2002, 04:28 PM
Hey rok how's going? I'm not offended to start with hehe...but could you let me know why you don't like the textures? Just so I know how I could improve them because I will be needing a textured version in the future for a short...thanks
08 August 2002, 08:09 PM
well ok then........:)
I think your image needs to be toned down a lot. That desert is waaaaaaaaay too yellow. The drivers seat - which were really fat in untextured version is now looking like a silky chair. How ībout doing some tarnished leather for that ??
furthermore I think the poles holding the sail looks a bit like ivory - is that intentional ? I donīt like the liquid tanks being that green tone, Iīd make a creamy/light yellow tone. I think the metaltextures on your vehicle needs some work too they are all too uniform.Scrathes, dents bumps - whatever.
I expected a more thrashed auto. What I liked about it in the first place was that build with whatever-you-got-in-the-shed look. some of that is lost with such bright colors. If supposed to look homemade - and it is - I think the overall texture work have to be some worn rusty torn thingy...
In the end you really should decide yourself.
08 August 2002, 08:21 PM
Thanks rok and I agree and I'll put more time into texturing the model a lot more... thanks for all the feedback
08 August 2002, 04:44 PM
Hey man lookin' real good! I'm liking it a lot. I agree with rok though, jeez my eyes! Tone down those colours! But nice work, I'm not that strong with these non organic thingys.
08 August 2002, 04:48 PM
Thanks Todd hehe I remembered your name ... ya it was quite a quick overlay of textures I didn't paint any of them yet so I'm gonna take some time and do that hopefully soon, I want to make a character for it as well so I think I'm gonna do that first...kind of a mad scientist guy I dunno we'll see.
08 August 2002, 06:53 PM
I'd have to say the only texture I really like is on the tv thingies :)
The thing seems like its built for a couch potato kinda guy though...
08 August 2002, 06:56 PM
I don't think they suit the whole project I meant for them to be the tubes from tvs but I was just playing around and made them green...
