Title: Beauty
Name: Reiv
Country: France
Software: 3dsmax 5.1

I've tried to make her beautiful and alive, that's all.
I've used Shag hair for the hair and also add filters to adjust brightness/contrast and color balance.

well you definatly reached your goal if you were going for beautiful and alive...although the face looks odd to me like and un natural flatness to her face, maybe extrude the nose and mouth out a bit more?

Soon2bAnimator, i think what gives it the flatness is the upper lip by itself only...

reiv, you nailed's amazing..alive and beautiful

Technically speaking, the model textures and hair are great. But personally, i don't feel atracted to her, as she seems to be near her forties, her face doesn't have any distinguishing prettyness factor, like fat lips, perfect nose, or entrancing eyes e.t.c. Also the greenish hue is not very flattering i think, a warm lighting that enhances the flesh colors might do the trick better.
Nevertheless good job!

09 September 2004, 09:21 PM
Dammit! you are the master of making nice lookin CG ladies faces!
Great work as usual, but a few comments:
If youre trying to make her look happy and alive, i think the green tint is making it look creepy and 'matrixy' - use warmer / brighter colours.
Those chain / plait thingies coming from her head are too easily confused with the hair and make it look wierd. Again, this might be because of the all-over green tint.

oh my goddddddd..........master of CG pretty girls agreeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Beautiful and alive? Yes she is! I also like the way u've presented her, composition looks great and effective! However, i found the picture just a bit too green... Maby not contrasted enough, according to me. But the result is realy nice, and, even if we concider ur past works, u don't have to be ashame about this last one!

09 September 2004, 10:48 PM
question: did you paint over a photo reference? or did you use a specific photo pose for reference?

09 September 2004, 11:42 PM
miam miam :applause:
she's beautiful !

09 September 2004, 11:48 PM

09 September 2004, 11:54 PM

WOW great work. Not that I falt the use of green my self, but I would like to see the model in more normal light and some difrent angles if posible.

Hmmmm.....I think that I might have to disagree here.....There are attractive qualities in all ages and sizes. Pretty does not equal fat lips or perfect nose, I think he captured a mood here and that's really whats pretty to me. I tire of the usual "pretty" features and lighting...bringing some new tones and perspective is just great by me! Good job!

09 September 2004, 02:39 AM
Incredible. I cant believe some peoples remarks on her beauty. She is the essence of it. Your best to date ~Reiv~. Very impressive.

I love the new layout of your web site.

09 September 2004, 02:54 AM
Dennik, i think you'ld be lucky to have a girl that will look this good in her forties :P

09 September 2004, 03:01 AM
For everyone's satisfaction, i give her 9.2 out of 10.
But i've seen prettier women that could be in that frame. Thats all. :)
What can i say, i'm a picky guy...

Wow, my next post has to be realy realy realy special...
Should i start one of those "Wow I've reached 1000 posts" kind of threads" ? :p

I really Like it she's got great character and she's very very pretty really nice work ;):)

09 September 2004, 07:30 AM
Her eyes. Something strange, right eye is flat, like painted.Meybe if You give her bigger eye not "chinesse" she will look better, but of course I couldn.t have right. Generally render is awesome. Best

09 September 2004, 07:52 AM
Thanks for your replys guys!

There's nothing painted in this picture, that's full 3D.
I've modelled her with anatomy references (photos or books) and then put the model in this position that I've seen on a photo.
Textures are hand painted.
Here is the wire:

Thanks again, reiv.

Stunning image! I thought it was a painting at first, what with the soft light and none of the cg-sharpness. Very very well done!

09 September 2004, 08:52 AM

very nice to see your wireframe,it shows a clean head/body topology...

09 September 2004, 09:12 AM
Skin shader, really good.
And the modeling too.

09 September 2004, 09:33 AM
Great work

09 September 2004, 09:56 AM
 Good modelling, final composition and hair well done, but the nose is strange, it seems very small. You used Photoshop and it should place in the credits.

09 September 2004, 10:05 AM
first class work, You did it again!

09 September 2004, 10:11 AM
I like the nose, it reminds me a bit of Lucy Liu's nose :D

Here is the last update (I hope :x ):

Emadeed: About the material: all the maps are painted and I use a blinn shader.
Concerning the lightning setup, there's only 3 area lights.
Here is a link : with the method I use for making eyes.
And finally, here are some tips for the skin shader:
But for each picture I make the shader is different, depending on the lightning and on the look expected.
