Hmm.. I must be dumb or something, or just Finnish enough not to get the point of this topic. What does it mean in non-poemic way? :)

09 September 2004, 02:18 PM
2 main ways I see to take it:

1. Walking down a path, it forks (goes in 2 directions) you choose left, it refers to right, the one you didn't take.

2. Same thing, but a metaphor. Choices you've made in life, what things may of been like if you had chosen differently. IE, instead of becoming a 3d Artist, you had become a Doctor... what would that be like?

09 September 2004, 02:34 PM
Oooo...

Thanks, Dargon.

The road not taken
OpenCanvas, PhotoShop/Wacom/1 Hour and a little

The picture is more a metaphor for a road not taken. Not that I made up a background story for it or anything. I just like to suggest a story with the picture.

Great colors Supervlieg!! :D

09 September 2004, 05:32 PM
Here is my entry 45 min sketch (ended up doing it twice) 15 min color in PS

You can obviously inturpret this subject any way you want but if you are curious where it came from, a famous poem you've probably read before by Robert Frost. Here it is if you wanted to read it.

pretty cool eh? I would think most artists can relate.

09 September 2004, 07:14 PM

Alternate version (

10min sketch, 40mins photoshop. This reminded me of beetlyjuice the cartoon.

09 September 2004, 07:28 PM
I read the Poem by Frost to and let me inspire a bit by it...I tried to work on my coloring a bit more in order to set the general mood instead of sketching it all out before this time, done in Painter 8 in approx 1.5hr...

Supervlieg, I really like your work (again :)) colors are awesome...

09 September 2004, 08:10 PM
I love it bigxer! I loved the beetlejuice cartoon too. Looks like "Dali : The animated series" to me.

To avoid confusion "Dali : The animated series" isn't a real cartoon, it was just a very bad joke.

09 September 2004, 09:04 PM
i hope this doesn't turn out a double or triple post... its the third time i'm trying to post this... :(
supervlieg_ love the oversaturated colors
PaulZ_ love the mood
csmallfield_ tough path to walk on
the bigxer_ reminds me of sam n max game :) i like it

thats tru, but its most times i really cant come up with a good orignal view on the topic that i want and the adding of color usally just throws me off a lot, like this one, if i tried 2 color this simple thing it would have ben xtremely worse then what i was attempting

i just need 2 find myself a style and workflow i like

thx for the comment tho, i do plane on geting into the daily sketches 2 improve

09 September 2004, 10:20 PM

The Other Road

09 September 2004, 11:43 PM
Good stuff guys! I particularily like Supervlieg's, great mood!

Here's mine, for some reason it just had a role playing feel to today's topic.
Photoshop for like 2.5 hours. Wacom for most, but mouse for some.

09 September 2004, 11:55 PM
dargon - hahaha that was funny.. great job btw :)

same with everyone else!

I cant find any inspiration for this one... I had a good idea for door #3 and death from above but I couldnt draw them :/

Anyways, great job guys!

09 September 2004, 12:00 AM
Hi all! First time my topic has been chosen; woohoo! ;)
I did a colorful one. I hope you like it.

1.30 hours, PS/wacom

By the way, great spin drumwhore. Also I love the way PaulZ used the colors! congrats!

09 September 2004, 12:36 AM
45 min PS7 + Wacom
Inspired by (Hed)PE music and a videoclip of Linkin Park (Don't know which one it was).
Anyway.. I'm not happy with the result.
The road not taken; the road to a rock star!

09 September 2004, 12:57 AM

09 September 2004, 01:22 AM
adrewley, very nice man simple yet graceful good job

09 September 2004, 01:45 AM
...looks like the cloud city stuff has brought some new energy into the pit. What a fun! This thread is already building up a great collection! I'm so enjoying it....just thought I mention! Congrats.....and now we know what drumwhore really wanted to make a living with (kinda figures)....what dragon is really all about (hmm...curious!)....Jimmy had it already in his name(not too far a stretch)....andrewley really enjoys LOTR...Rasdasa still tries to become content with his choices(you're an artist, you're doing the right thing!)....PaulZ's longing(yeah, that would be something for a while!)....and finally akocan has either a migraine issue or really needs to ease up on his LSD consumption....hehehe

Kick butt possible insights on everybody... :applause:
...who cares how wrong I am, I'm enjoying the quick guessing! :wip:

09 September 2004, 01:50 AM
90 minutes
Photopaint 10

Cool stuff everyone.

09 September 2004, 01:55 AM
Cheers Geta-Ve

Taron333 - spot on man :) (I'm so transparent)

balistic - cool - looks like its being viewed from a moving vehicle

09 September 2004, 02:43 AM
Painter 8/Almost 2 hours/wacom

09 September 2004, 03:15 AM
Supervlieg - I really like the tones; and your character makes me think of The Last Samurai. Nice job.
csmallfield - Looks good to me. For some odd reason I really like those boards.
thebigxer - Reminds me of a funky kid's book. Good job. What does the sign say though?
PaulZ - This would make a great piece of art if you spent more time on it. It already is, but you know what I mean... I like it.
made in uterus - It makes me think of that scene from the Lion King. I'm likin' it, good job.
Fire2257 - There's no shame in plain 'ole black and white. Looks good to me. You've got good ideas - just practice, man. That's how it comes. None of these other guys were painting well the day they came home from the hospital. At least, not that I know of =p.
Dutchman - The gaussian blur throws me off a bit, but I like your idea : ).
block01cube - Looks like an etching - good effort, man.
Rasdasa - Nice pencil as always. I always love your perspective.
Drumwhore - I'm not sure I could do that pose so well. Nice job - I like the drool hehee.
Taron333 - Beautiful mood. A more effective camera angle might be the rear/up view instead of front/down, but that doesn't matter. I like the rocks.
Akocan - Wow nice colors =). I like the 'round' effect alot, and I love that airplane =p.
JimmY-Digital - Nice sense of motion you have there. Great job.
andrewley - Niiice. Makes me think of a LOTR book illustration. Very nice form as well - simple, but solid.
balistic - OoOo cool idea. I really like the mountain and the view from the moving car.
majofo - Good job; not a wasted two hours. I like your road.

I hope I didn't forget anyone... great job all! : ) I haven't submitted one yet... no time and lack of ideas I guess. Oh well...

I'm so excited! Tonight I ordered a Wacom Graphire3 6x8 tablet (with all the accessories of course), with two day shipping from My total (product/tax/shipping) came out to $213.35. Not bad I guess.... but at least it's coming! W00t w00t... no more painting with a mouse for me. O : )

09 September 2004, 03:39 AM
Drumwhore, what are you talking about! That looks fly!

Dargon, made me chuckle. Well done though, looks much like the real thing.

Taron, well put together concept, and nice composition.

Ballistic, very calming and sort of surreal.

Andyman, here's to no shipping problems ;P

09 September 2004, 03:52 AM
Hah, yeah.... : ). Seeing how I ordered it from, I don't think it includes Painter Classic like the one from does (correct?); but it does come with a $30 rebate so.. that's kinda nice I guess.

09 September 2004, 04:14 AM
As far as I know Andy, every wacom comes with a copy of Painter classic, they have as far back as I can remember (at least 8 years)

09 September 2004, 04:37 AM
Do they? Dell mentioned something about Adobe Illustrator demo or something like that, but nothing about Painter. Thank you for the encouragement though - we'll find out soon enough =).

LUCKY BAST*RD ;). Just kiddin', but I think we'll see soem experiments with it wont we, maybe your work will even improve :D.
WHat some silly hardware can do for ya eh? :P

Maybe I'll also buy one some day....
(*dreams off and reaslizes he has to go to school 5 minutes later*)

09 September 2004, 12:23 PM
Love your picture nopancakemix, great concepta nd great execution! One thing I might change would be to make the background blend together more, as it stands it looks more like two pictures next to each other instead of too roads at the same intersection. Just a thought, unless you were going for the division down the center.

09 September 2004, 08:00 PM
I'm so soryy, this must be the latest, worst and most tedious post ever...
Open Canvas 1.1, 6h. (No, that aint no joke... I'm so embarressed!)

09 September 2004, 08:51 PM
oh well, wish I had the talent to convey what I mean.
So many roads not many taken and regretted but nonetheless, life goes on.
opencanvas and painter 1.5 hours

09 September 2004, 11:40 PM
meta_Nerd, that concept is whhicked, and a very nice composition of colours, especially the body colors.
