Very nice image. I noticed you used both max and maya. Just curious where both were applied to produce the final image.

Once again, nice stuff. +Welcome to the forum!

09 September 2004, 07:57 AM
Nice action pic. As entimy stated, I would like to know where you used Max and where you used Maya.

And how did you create those waves? theyre very good!

Im not sure about the old film look, its a color picture afterall isnt it. Anyway, great job!

09 September 2004, 08:00 AM
very nice:thumbsup:

09 September 2004, 08:10 AM

Great image, looks fantastic !

What battleship is getting attacked ?
Does this image represent the battle at Leyte Gulf off the Phillipines in 1944 ?

Be interested also in hearing about how you used each piece of software to create the final image.

09 September 2004, 08:14 AM
How did you make the bow splash? I hope it's 3d so that I can figure this out...

09 September 2004, 08:21 AM
That is quite amazing! Congratulations!
I really like the "oily fire" at the back, as the water and models.

- The film effect is not needed imho (grain can stay though).
- I'm not sure about the lightning at the left, which -I think- is very nice, but the huge explosion is just enough there. It seems as the explosion colours the clouds that much.
- the sunlight is quite white for me, which is OK for a black&white pic, but it is supposed to be a colour one.
- one more thing: the waterburst in the middle looks like as an icepeak, but the other (at the right) is very real.

Anyway, it went to my "c:\neverWillBeAbleToReachThis" directory! Don't change anything! ;) Keep it up this nice, quality work!

What is maya and max in there? Can we see a wireframe please?

09 September 2004, 08:41 AM
wow this is awesome!

which elements were done in what program, did u do the smoke and explosions in Photoshop?

09 September 2004, 08:43 AM
Very nice image  Impressive work !
just a personal view... I don't like so much the old film efx...

possible to see a mesh view ?

09 September 2004, 08:55 AM
Absolutely stunning, i love it. There's one splash in the pic that does look like a piece of ice, but otherwise great. I would love to see a black and white version, might give it that old timey feel with the film grain!!

09 September 2004, 09:08 AM
   INCREDIBLE WORK!

09 September 2004, 09:22 AM
Very nice image, almost looks painted. One thing I find a bit weird tho is that the sky seems to be very desaturated. It gives an interesting look for sure, but it's just something I noticed as soon as I saw the image.

09 September 2004, 09:26 AM
fantastic peace...

any chance of a wire shot? :)

09 September 2004, 09:46 AM
Really nice
very good work ....

09 September 2004, 09:51 AM
Very nice! I have no words.
Is the sea painted?

09 September 2004, 10:04 AM
super work

09 September 2004, 10:39 AM
amazing work, congratulations

09 September 2004, 11:14 AM
Excellent work! This is one of the best images I´ve seen!
This is just amazing!

09 September 2004, 11:27 AM
really, great work.. better than Baldasseroni.

09 September 2004, 11:37 AM
lovely attention to detail

09 September 2004, 11:55 AM
quality. I actually like the film look, but the sky does look too desaturated, especially up on the top left. Good lightning

09 September 2004, 12:06 PM
Wow!!! this is absolutely stunning work... i've never seen anything so cool, stylish and complete... if your doing some animation i would love to take at look, that's gotta be a killer :D...

i have one question.. what did you use for water?? and how did you do the water splashes...??

i love it... show me more :D:thumbsup: :bounce:

09 September 2004, 12:43 PM
wow~~ can't say anything...great work.. will I do this? strenuosity--

09 September 2004, 01:12 PM
Fantastic work!!! 5 stars!

Id like to know more about how you created this image. Really good work.

09 September 2004, 01:18 PM
Very nice stuff and great detail!
Personally I'm not too keen on the top-left sepia colour effect. It distracts from the overal image. Do you have a full-full-colour version? :D

09 September 2004, 01:20 PM
Very nice work :applause:

09 September 2004, 01:28 PM
Very nice work .
VERy cool i can'say any moer

09 September 2004, 01:33 PM
Excellent Work:thumbsup: ...I liked the camera angle.

09 September 2004, 01:48 PM
Great work. I like the white light on the right contrasting with the dark brooding storm on the left. Makes me think that the ship is charging into a brighter future from a stormy past. It's also interesting the cannon fires to the left of the picture. Very nice work.

The tones and the story are excellent here. Keep up the good work!

09 September 2004, 01:59 PM
Great work, you captured the mood/environment very nicely. I think the old film effect would work better if the image was black and white, otherwise things look sharper without the effect. Thumbs up

09 September 2004, 02:26 PM
Great image. The water is very nice, as well as the modelling.

What throws me off is the desaturation in the sky. It pulls your eye away from the battle to the disparity of the color; I find that it's mae all that much worse by the fact that the left is sepia and the right is cast blue, divided by the oily smoke (based with orange flame). However, if this were an animated sequence, it might be forgiven if the entire effect generated an "old film" feel to it. It's just as a still that it's so disconcerting.

Very well done, a wireframe would be nice!

09 September 2004, 02:27 PM
Wonderful artwork

The only thing I can crit is the lightning, you can try to desaturate it a bit, it, along with the sky, distracts from the main point in the image as SkyRaider3D pointed out.

And yea did you use Maya Ocean Shader for the ocean? :)

09 September 2004, 02:31 PM

i really like the feeling of it, nice atmosphere.

One thing that bugs me, the AM6 zero's bullets arent in line with where its pointing, i know the bullet trayectory differs since the plane is in movement, but i still get the feeling its skewed.

09 September 2004, 02:43 PM
This is beyond cool! I like how the ships really seem to be moving... there's a bit of urgency in the waves. very, very nice

09 September 2004, 02:59 PM
what part is 3d what part is photoshop

09 September 2004, 03:08 PM
nice scene, 5 stars

09 September 2004, 04:29 PM
I'd say that the bullet lines and more likely than not the wave at the bow is Photoshop. I've yet to see anyone get a bow wave that good in 3D, even from the big guys.

09 September 2004, 04:34 PM
Lovely stuff, although im inclined to agree with RmachucaA's comment about the bullets.

Am I right in saying you used max to build the vehicles and used maya to build the scene using the default ocean for the water?

Lastly, and im sure im being very picky, I see no people? Dunno if people would be visible in a battle but makes it seem a little like the picture from the cover of a box of one of those scale models you find in really old hobby and toy shops.

09 September 2004, 05:01 PM
Absolutely Amazing!incredible details.。。spectacular scene :scream:

Zero CooL
09 September 2004, 05:19 PM
Very nice image. I noticed you used both max and maya. Just curious where both were applied to produce the final image.

Once again, nice stuff. +Welcome to the forum!

Cu..Zero CooL

09 September 2004, 05:36 PM has some grand thing going on........very very kewl....

nice work nothing to crit......has got so many elements.....

can you give some comments on how you made it?

greets niels

09 September 2004, 05:37 PM
The work is stunning!

As for the comments about the bullet path.. His image seems to focus on accuracy, wouldn't bullets fired, trail downward as they traveled? seems like it's possible.

I got NO nitpicks for this image which is my new desktop!

I would LOVE to know how you achieved such fantastic looking ocean. And see a wireframe.

Nice work!

09 September 2004, 05:39 PM
wow good work

09 September 2004, 05:42 PM
I love the composition of this. It is really nice. Can we see some wire??

09 September 2004, 05:47 PM

but one more thing ...Wired I love to see them!!!

09 September 2004, 06:53 PM

very lovly attack .... :)

09 September 2004, 09:01 AM
just plain incredible!! (I'm I sucker for WWI & WW2 planes)

09 September 2004, 09:07 AM
What can I say it is magnificient. The blend of use between Maya & Max sounds great. The scene has an incredible feel of motion... that just terrific. Outstanding work man.

09 September 2004, 09:35 AM
Hi there, I think it is great too, but... there is somethong i don't like.

1. I think that the explosion clouds in the sky look the same. They almost have the same dimension and shape.

2. The smoking from the ship in the backplane, gives only white reflections in the water, and too much light.

All the best.

09 September 2004, 01:04 PM
Excellent work.......i have nothing else to say.....I really like it

09 September 2004, 02:06 PM
This is a great image, if you get an opportunity, please put up an wireframe, I'm love to look at how you went about craeting this image. Your water is, how how???? :D

09 September 2004, 07:11 PM
Great Work.

09 September 2004, 08:11 PM
As a felow WW II ship / plane modeler i REALY respect your work ..
i know how hard it is to boost the detail and keep the rendertimes as low as posible and to work from limited resources

i would like to know if the water is Brushed if not how did you create the Foamy whitecaps ?

with regards,

p.s. if youd like to scope out this is what i'm currently working on
[need to find more references to make this a complete model though ]

09 September 2004, 08:27 PM
can you show us a version withOUT the filmgrain?

dont get me wrong, it looks great as is, and I think the grain serves its purpose well.

I'm just curious to see what it looks like underneath?

09 September 2004, 08:49 PM
beautiful atmosphere!
great colors and details:scream:

09 September 2004, 09:44 PM
beautiful, amazing, awesome, superb .. pick one!!  :buttrock: :applause:

09 September 2004, 07:22 PM
Excellent render! It reminds me of some of the combat artwork painted during WWII of the Battle known as the Marianas Turkey Shoot, were the US Navy had a field day shooting down japanese kamakazi planes. The ship looks like an Iowa Class battleship or one of the heavy cruisers that looked similar. One of the best images of shell splashes and water I've seen done in a 3D render. Checkout some of the history books that feature naval combat art and you can see the similarities, even still of some of the rare color film of these battles looks close....Well Done!!!

10 October 2004, 08:51 PM

I have to say thumbs way up, it captures the essense of the storm of battle and the storm during battle :) lol. I love the colors, and how it looks like its out of a movie. I think the sky looks great the way it is and the waters around the Battleship look fantastic. The warplanes are realistic and battleship looks like its going to steam out of my computer screen.

     (5/5 thumbs up)

10 October 2005, 09:59 AM
