i have followed threads out here explaining complex bump mapping with mental ray and maya 5, is maya 6 capable of less complex bumping networks for mental ray? Still havent upgraded yet, and was just curious.

Use the bumpCombiner shader for mr.

where do i connec:)t that? in the shading group, or within say a blinn's bump slot? thanx again

the shader has two outputs, color(+vectorbumps if enabled) and only vector bumps(if checked vectormode under b.options).. in vector mode(picking out_vResult.. in the hypershade) you connect it to any vector inputs.. like normalcamera(bump slot) for the blinn mat.. in color mode(picking out_cResult) is a combiner that takes multiple bumps and add them to a color surface.

Thanx for the reply's. Does maya 5 have a combiner? I didnt see it in create render node

you can find the bumpcombiner

i think it should work inn maya 5 too.
