View Full Version : Game Art Comp 9 : Lemur - WWII (American Private)

Nothing to original about the time time period but this one seemed fun.
He is going to be an on the edge private. The one most likley to set off a mine or shoot at a tree thinking its an enemy. Scared of his own shadow.

good idea, but you have only half month of time

plenty of time!!!

Here is the begining of the model.

Holy crap! that was quick! Did you only just start that?!
He looks more like a fox than a lemur - but i presume that the textures will tell it - lemurs are easily recognisable by their fur colour and those scary eyes....

Looks great - intresting how youre doing the transparency on the tail & face.

hehe thanx yeah I just started it today when I saw the contest. I was thinking it is not quite a lemur also maybe any advice to make it more like a lemur?

08-12-2004, 11:34 PM
Damn, fast work. I'd maybe make the ears more pronounced, and make sure they come more from the side of the head than the top. Maybe also make the pelvis/belly a little bigger and more round like in the pic with the US Army censor block :P

some small changes

I second that thought! Dayum! I love the most recent pic. The pot belly really adds character. You took out the furry alphas, though. Is that temporary?Nice job with the Thompson, too. If you can texture as quick as you model, this'll be done in no time flat! Can't wait to see some more progress.

ps. I positively love that third reference pic of the lemur you've got there.

alright I am getting ahead of my self here but I wanted to try out how the fur was going to look this is the best result I have gotten so far. I am not done modeling yet but I had to figure out how I was going to do the fur so I went ahead and quickly unwrapped some stuff for tests.

here is a silouette of the finished model. Textures are in progress.

that tail looks great man.
so did you go with rings of polys instead of fins this time?
is that how you achieved that look?

08-17-2004, 12:16 PM
looking good, the tail looks great, your speeding through this contest!

08-17-2004, 12:49 PM
the modeling is ok, a bit wonky

oh and please post the silhouette on a light background so that you can see it better :)

08-17-2004, 03:54 PM
For the tail I got rid of the solid geometry and used rings and fins actually.
I agree the modeling is a bit wonky but I started this contest late and am kind of rushing through it. After begging textures I am actually unhappy with the the animal and time period I chose to put together. But anyway here are the textures I put together in a hurry just photo manip for the most part but since I seem to have quite a bit of time left I think I am going to redo them and take another approach but I need to get my hands on a wacom tablet.

Sigh - you tempt us with those maps, yet you dont show them on your model....
I know theyre only WIP, but they look great so far. Where did you get the trousers / shirt image from?

08-17-2004, 06:22 PM
holy crap! This is looking very nice.

08-17-2004, 11:19 PM
jerk ;)

put it on the model, don't just post the texture! :)

Any updates? Is this gonna be filed under the vast 'incomplete entries' bin?

08-30-2004, 02:03 AM
HEHE no I will post somthing up for the final, I just started my first job at a gaming company so I have been focusing all my attention to learning the ropes at work. When you make game art everyday all day long you kinda wanna break from the 3dsmax screen for a few hours a day so I havent touched this contest in while. But don't worry I will make the final posts.

Cool! I like it very much, creative and fanny!

The texture looks great. I hope to see your final submission soon.
