Does anyone know where I can find a free carbon fibre texture on the net ??

That's gonna be a tuff one. If you've seen CF up close you'll see that it's gonna be hard to duplicate (I'm sure you have considering your avatar :D ). The way the sun shines off the fibers... hmmmm. If you want I could scan some for you but you'll have to tweak the actual shader to make it gleam.

@ visualboo. You are right I have seen carbon fibre up close, iand I know it is going to be hard to duplicate the gleam effect, but to make my life easier I was thinking on a simple reflection effect with retrace.

ahh, that's actually pretty close (looks like carbon kevlar). Is this for an animation or still? If it's for an animation (and your using max) try using some Mix, Mask, falloff and Checker maps to get that shine off the fibers.

Give me a day or two for the texture cause I have a roll of it but it's at my brothers house. Gotta get it anyway so why not now :buttrock:

Btw, Iīm not going to go into any detail with the steering wheel because iītīs going to be a very small componet in the big picture and I donīt want to have too many polys so I donīt want to overload my poor PC :cool:

unfortunally this shader is made for maya, but you can adopt the features for MAX certanly.
at least the texture_map is useful.

how to reproduce this shader also for other programs is documented here:
