Title: Character
Name: Michael Filipowski
Country: Germany

this model was made for a friends game called "die orks" he is planning to develop.
it took me a few month to complete because i worked in my limited free time on it.
i love the warhammer, confrontation and blizzard style and always wanted to create a similar character.
some technical info:
Polycount: 3523 Faces
Texturepage: 1024*1024 for color and alpha

this is really cool. i like the character as well as the texture... some animation yet? is there a developmentsite concerning "that" game, or more models? btw. mühlheim near KA?

if we can see the wireframe, please show us!

08-06-2004, 04:40 PM
I like Warhammer and "Blizzard art" too!!!

And you did a really good job! Your friend can be happy!

08-06-2004, 05:42 PM
This looks great, both technically, and the character has quite a bit of charm. And, by the looks of him, it was fun to make :)

08-06-2004, 05:58 PM
Very expressive , it looks like a warcraft wise orc ( if this is possible ) , nice modeling and great texturing .

08-06-2004, 07:05 PM
No comment tell any more, cause it's out of load. means best, there is no error.
Keep it up

Best Regards

this is one of the best lowres model i've ever seen.. Nice mode and textures. I assume the texture you were started with photograph isn't it? then paint the shading and attaching different sections of dirts? amazing job. i like this rather than blizzard all hand painted texture.

08-06-2004, 07:33 PM
wow great model
awesome texturing as well as modelling
i give you full 5 stars:buttrock:

08-06-2004, 07:42 PM

08-06-2004, 09:20 PM
Well, it looks fantastic, but it looks exactly like Blizzard. If I was making an original game, I'd insist on some originality.

08-06-2004, 09:49 PM
AWESOME work man.... I love all that detail you got in the texture, and your rich colours...sweet :applause:

08-07-2004, 01:01 PM
argh, i hit return accidentally...

no, animations will come later.....first he has to find one to do it :)
a site is in progress.
mülheim an der ruhr, gleich neben essen, oberhausen und duisburg

now you can see a small render of the wireframe with the new "from concept to 3d"-link i posted above.

yeah, it was fun. first i started, i have´t known how it will turn, but than, after the model made big steps and becomes better and better i couldn´t keep my hands off it for a week.
its a great feeling to see your own idea growing like a baby.

i haven´t used much photomaterial. only for his face and beared i used some skin and hair underlays. the rest was handpaintjob and the use of ps-filters for creating structures, dirt, variations.

you are right, every game should have a look ones own and not a copy.
but i think, the character has his own quality. the ingame graphics of blizzards games (warcraft3, wow) are more simple, rich in contrast, have a nice disneystyle and superb colors and design. the cinematics are more realistic. so i don´t see, that my orc is neither a copy of the ingamemodels nor the realistic cutscene characters.
in addition nobody knows if the game will be ever finished, its the idea of guy, he starts it as a hobbyproject and i made the first figure for him.

08-07-2004, 01:09 PM
wow, that is some fantastic texturing, great model. i think you nailed with warhammer style right on the nose, fantastic work again, keep it up! :)

08-07-2004, 01:25 PM

08-09-2004, 03:41 PM

08-09-2004, 07:48 PM
thanks again for all the comments and the front page plug. im so happy :bounce:

you can find the texturpage under this link
halfsized texturepage (http://mitglied.lycos.de/MFTituS/Orkmagier/Orkmagier_texture.jpg)

@Troy McClure
background? sorry, but i only wanted to present an realtimecharacter and not to do a whole picture :)

im working at a german gamestudio called blue byte.

you can find a small wireframerender here
from concept to 3D (http://mitglied.lycos.de/MFTituS/Orkmagier/Orkmagier03.jpg)
the polycount is 3523.

yes its for a friends game. but the project is far away from presenting something.

"blizzard will buy it for its game..."
it would suffice if they buy me and i can make every week such a fantasy-character for their great games :)

"At the first look, i believe that was high poly def !"
im worry about you - you should analyze your eyes by a doctor, then the world will look clearer and more beautiful :)

"I must say that at the first look I took it looked like high Poly."
same as tanisdal, please take care of your eyes :)

08-10-2004, 12:33 PM
Sure I will MFTitus

08-14-2004, 04:13 PM
Nice looking orc. 5 stars from me!

08-26-2004, 10:14 AM
Very good work. The uwv are little bit crazy but still working.4stars from me

08-26-2004, 09:28 PM
thanks for your kind comments.

of course they coordinates are crazy, the texturespace has to be efficient and not looking good :)
it´s cause im making many variations only with some polys copying and than changing the texture there. so you have not to use much space for a whole face. it is enough to copy some uvws from the mirrored face to free spaces on your texturepage und change it to get rid of the symetry.

09-27-2004, 02:17 AM
That's a great character there, I love it. Good model, colors, and textures.

10-19-2004, 08:31 PM
Shit! Thats wack! ;) Awsome! :D Dude, I dont want to know where he plucked that doll from...
The shaders...niicce. :)

Johan Out!

Just wanted to say this one rocks. I love orcs and I play them in WC3. Btw, there is a fan art site hosted by Blizzard Entertainment where you can submit a picture of your masterpiece for all the WC3 gamers to appreciate. If you like I can send it for you but please tell me first if it's ok with you. My email address is basil122574@hotmail.com or visit the website where I moderate at http://wc3.warcraftstrategy.com/index.asp and look for frostwolf there.
