After hard day work of killing heroes, me back hurt. Me doctor say Badvil the only medi... med... medin... the only stuff dat completely cure back pain due to stabbings, magic missiles, fireballs, and anyfing else. Now if only me could open it.

Badvil. For Monsters on the Go.

1 hour 10 min with a wacom and Photoshop. Im starting to get the hang of this (i.e. small brush size + mid opacity = good for sketching.)

07-16-2004, 06:47 PM
1h30, photoshop.
Spent a lot of time trying to render it without the black lines, but finally put them back as it didn't look good at all. Gotta practise more on this :/

07-16-2004, 07:16 PM
An hour and a half, Photoshop.

07-16-2004, 07:28 PM
30 minutes in Paintshop 8

07-16-2004, 07:28 PM
Drumwhore: Nice one! Good expression!

TeoM: Again, like ur style. Nice view!

Going to work on mine later, but till now still hasn't had an idea...

Take Two of These and Call Me in the Morning...

Photoshop/Wacom/45 Minutes. [Sorry, but these themes keep bringing silly images into my head]

Drumwhore: I like it, curious how it looks without outlines.
TeoM: Nice one. just wondering, is the thing going in or out of his belly?
SP1R1T: You're right! keep trying different brushes and opacity's and you'll get even better.
Did you know you can use the numeric keys to change opacity's of your brush on the fly? Very handy that one.

LOL now thats funny, great work supervlieg.
And as always nice style and twisted humor Toem

07-16-2004, 09:22 PM
It just amazes me how talented you all are!
Here is my sketch, it took about 30 min in Photoshop with a wacom.

07-16-2004, 09:37 PM
Adam and God trade stuff....

Should remind of Michelangelo´s painting, thats the idea anyway =)
PS with wacom and, about 3h, lost track of time.

07-16-2004, 10:19 PM
Supervlieg, great as usual. And it's supposed to be something lodged in his belly. I thought about changing it to a pitchfork, but I diddn't have the strength to redo it.

SP1R1T: :D!

07-16-2004, 10:40 PM
Here's mine. A killer is given a task to take 2 of the men in the picture, before sunrise. Then call the boss in the morning after done.

1.5 hrs / wacom / PS7
Finished in about an hour but just can't stop refined it, yes I know it took too long for a sketch like this but I just couldn't let myself finalize thing without satisfaction.

theabyss: I like that! I really like ocean and always try to do one, but just can't get an good idea. U did it well!
Supervlieg: U're really pro in doing expression! Again, ur characters rock! :buttrock:

[edit: refine the picture holding in his hand]

07-16-2004, 11:07 PM
dck: really nice sketch :) although it takes some time to see what he's holding..
supervlieg: thanks :) here ( is a version without the outlines.. as you can see, still a lot to learn.. btw, your sketch is nice and funny once again :)

07-16-2004, 11:18 PM
Thanks Drumwhore!

Saw urs without outline, not bad at all! Maybe just need to be more contrast to bring out the shapes. :)

07-16-2004, 11:38 PM

Great work so far folks :)

painter8/wacom 50mins

07-16-2004, 11:48 PM
blah.. still not very used in drawing with a mouse
but hey.. practice makes perfect :P
check my old ones and u can see my improvement :D

1/2 painter mouse

Drumwhore - Nice sketch, I saw it w/out the outline, and it looks just fine. As dck said, maybe a bit more contrast. Dig the character tho.

TeoM - I knew it was yours as soon as I saw the top of the hand. :P I always enjoy your sketches.

Supervlieg - Again, dope characters. Your cartoony shading style works perfectly.

Dextel - I thought Michelangelo instantly, so gj on getting your point across. What did Adam trade in return? ;D

PS - 3hr (Got carried away)
Reference used for Willy.

It is a shame that these are only sketches. Some of these ideas really deserve to be developed further.

Here's mine, a reprisal of Tony from the "Then Tony Walked In" sketch but with a different attitude this time.

07-17-2004, 12:20 PM
Haha (you guys are funny), just wanted to say: great sketches everyone!

07-17-2004, 01:11 PM
All mine, but inspired by Garrison Keilor's "Guy Noir" radio sketches:

Downtown Minnesota, late night at the office and I was self-medicating with a cheap bottle of scotch. That's when SHE walked in. Her name was Toni and she was convinced that her husband was having an affair with a woman from work. He was going to an office party next week and she asked if I could put a tail on him. I asked if this was some sort of game, and she said it wasn't. I asked what her husband does for work and she said he's a lumberjack. "A guy could get a splitting headache by making a lumberjack mad", I told her. She unbuttoned her blouse and told me I should take two of these and call her in the morning. I took the case.

About 2.5 hours in photoshop.

07-17-2004, 01:44 PM
HaHa! Good one Ilikesoup!

Here's mine, about 20 minutes sketching, about 20 minutes scanning and colouring in PS

07-17-2004, 01:47 PM
Thanks, Dargon. You are the mack daddy!

07-17-2004, 02:27 PM
Here is another one of mine.

1hr30 / PS7 / wacom

iamintricate: The right guy's face look great!
Dargon: Nice sketch and color!
ilikesoup: Nice story!

07-17-2004, 04:12 PM

About two hours, 8B pencil on copying paper and an hour colouring/fiddling with texture blending in Photoshop.

I don't like pills and I thought of a doctor prescribing a patient something when I heard the tagline, so mine is about severe side-effects :P

Nice to see everyone's work, the diversity is always great :D

07-17-2004, 04:42 PM
some self-medication .... this is ps 7 and wacom, 1 1/2 hr.

07-17-2004, 06:34 PM

07-17-2004, 07:33 PM
dck: (first one) Great style! I like the roughness and lighting!
iamintricate: Good colors dude, cant really make out the background though.
Ilikesoup & Dargon: Funny concepts, hehe
dck: (second one) I like this as well, the color scheme is real good, could have been a bit darker though.
Jawine: Nice one, I like the pastel tints you used.

Everyone's work is so GOOD! I like NancyJo's sketch and Jawine's use of PS. :)

07-17-2004, 08:37 PM
@nilk-narf: Thanks ^^)

In case anyone wonders how I make my stuff, I do the colours in 70% opacity with a hard brush and then use a texture as background and fiddle around with the opacity of the colour layer. The texture gives the whole drawing a bit of structure and randomness. The lines are on top with mode set to 'multiply'.
See wassups website for a tutorial in this technique. Craig Mullins works with textures as well if i'm right. Yeah that's where I 'stole' the technique ;)
