Iīve seen this photo (http://www.gamedesignhq.de/AM/misc/3glas.jpg) in the arri lighting handbook and fell in love with the nice and soft mood :D so I tried to rebuild it in max and came to this


No gi used just one fr softshadow and fr refractions

what do you think?

that photo is an execelent study material.

the render is very good.
but you could put some squared reflections in the glass.

try using some white alongated boxes out of the camera view.
the glass will reflect those boxes, cheating a window reflection.
or try an greyscale map with bold white lines and scratches.

yeah I tried that but I thought that it looks nicer without any disturbing spec reflection

hummm, yes. analyzing it carefully, its better without the square
reflections. did you try 2 or 3 glass in the scene ?

To me it doesn't look llike the glass i thick. Did you remember to make it a 2 sided material?

To me it looks 2-dimesional. Strangely flat.

actually itīs not a glas but a solid cylinder :)
and I didnīt put much attention to the cylinder my goal was the lighting mood :D
