View Full Version : Special Delivery Truck X-Mas Card

This is a recent X-Mas card illustration. I also included the proofs along the way and layers from photoshop. No big secrets or special technique. Just normal everyday illustration(needed quickly and cheaply). The truck model is from the Infographica Model Bank. The farm was a free file from TurboSquid by Flipper42. I used the shop game models by Psionic Design at TurboSquid for reference of the gas station. I rebuilt a store for high res. The gas station logo and colors are mocking of Sinclair DINO gas. I had to render the image at 3000 pixels to create a 300ppi image that is required for print, so that was the biggest bottleneck. Render tweak render tweak render is painfully slow. That's the other reason I rendered in layers.

Final Illustration

Started with a basic 3d scene

Initial rendering for concept proof

2nd proof. It looked bare and strange with gas pump on its lonesome

PSD layers with snow and various images
This is the base layer. I rendered the buildings separate
Levels adjustment layer. Trees and haze are on separate layers.
Background Layer. Added shop and background snow. The window textures are from photos outside traditional General Stores. You never really see them after the truck is in place.
Painted snow on shop and farm
Painted snow on truck, tires and gas pump.
I painted the foreground snow and fonts on separate layers in the final Illustration

Nice use of available materials to put together an image for your client. Economical and fast, I like it.
