Hey guys, sketched this and then painted in photoshop.
It's my first digital painting, which I did just for fun.
Any composition, technique or perspective/proportion crits would be appreciated.

I've got a lot of little nitpicks for this one. First, the white bricks on the arches are too clean and too precise. You could add dirt, cracks and chips, and you could also reduce the regularity of the lines. Don't pay a lot of attention to the arches further away. The first one is the only one that really sticks out.
Second, her forarms are a good bit too long. Check me on this, but I think a woman's forarm is nearly the same length as her upper arm. The way you have her posed looks more like she has her hands on her sides.
Third, in the sketch, the sword comes down to the ground. In the colored version, it doesn't quite make it. Lengthen the sword and give it a little shadow.
Fourth, I think that she would be a little more comfortable if her toes were turned out a little bit. Her stance also seems a little wide. Also, in the sketch you have some great shading around her shin and kneecap that is lost in the colored version.
The face in the sketch also has a stronger jawline, darker eyes, and lower eyebrows. The colored picture has a very soft, feminine face. Personally, I think the face in the sketched version is more appropriate for a woman holding a sword, but that's really a matter of preference.
Finally, the sections of the wing are wrong. If you look at the bones in a bird's wing you'll see that it is a lot like a human arm, but instead of a hand there is a third wing section. The wing also needs to be affected by the wind. I'm not really sure how to accomplish this; perhaps slight deformations or ruffling on the windward wing.
You might also add a little bit of your light color to the angel.
Keep up the good work. The background is especially good.

Hmm... I'm not sure I agree with SlashTen.

What he is suggesting would lead to more of a photo realistic look, but what you have going right now is sort of a nice clean style.

If you do focus on details I would do that only for the foreground character and leave the background alone.

Some things are out of proportion, though it is hard to say with the forearms with how long the sleeves are. One thing I noticed was the curve on the wings. They don't look right. The curve is either too pronounced or too long.

Looks great man, I'd just keep adding details...It's digital, you can't hurt it

Thanks for all the crits!

SlashTen: I agree with the forearm length, ankle turnout, feather ruffling ( I can't believe that didn't even cross my mind ) and the light colour being added to the character.

slaughters: Thanks for the links to the bird wings!! Yeah... I was way out!! I got a bit lazy there!

Hopefully not too long before I get a chance to apply your ideas!

Thanks again!
