great topic!
painter / photoshop / 3hr

06 June 2004, 05:10 PM
medium : paper and pencil, black pen, then Kurecolor pens
time : not too long, 20 minutes to come up with good thumbnail and thencopy it to a larger size, then another 20 minutes doing the inking.
comments : hope you like it, I think the the format of the composition is pretty good, but then that might just be me!!

drawMonger : like the position and style of the characters.

06 June 2004, 05:21 PM

06 June 2004, 05:44 PM
Finally I had some time again today so I decided to join..

Here's my take on the subject, much more time coloring then actually sketching (Im thinking about doing another one later if I have time and energy)
anyway, painter 8, about 1 hr with some breaks for coffee and cigarettes.

Btw, great sketch grouse, very nice pose and linework..

06 June 2004, 06:49 PM

06 June 2004, 06:55 PM

06 June 2004, 06:59 PM

btw check out my sketchbook if you want, I added a index to it today with a free version of web gallery maker:

you should add that link to your signature, because it would be a shame, if anybody missed it. Its definitely worth a look, and a second and a third as well

Now if you would just be so nice and give us a little hint about your custom brushes...they make every art you create even better, cause they add this certain last touch

in german it would be "i-puenktchen" ;)

06 June 2004, 10:26 PM
pencil and photoshop, ~45 min. that perspective is hurtin', need practice!

Matthew, that's some good stuff. dig the sketchbook.

Pasto, i always enjoy your work. that's the same facial expression i have when brussels sprouts are on my plate.

06 June 2004, 10:31 PM
Damn Pasto! That's Fine!

Well, here's my attempt:

Bout and hour, Photoshop 5.0, wacom.

06 June 2004, 11:13 PM
Here is mine, I like this one....
1 hour drawing pencil paper Id like to work more on the armor but that all the time I have today... I tried to draw it in class without my teacher noticing what I was doing. Cause then they get real mad
forgive the scan...
oH... Where we supposed to have a white and dark knight? well my knight is dark and his armor is white so there. it works...

Drawmonger- I like the positions of the knights

Pasto- The face came out real cool

Biped - I love the action

Kflich- nice idea

Garma: AWESOME i love the horse

Mathew- as always great, samurai knight?

Dragon: that is beautiful so cool, the enviroment is great

06 June 2004, 11:29 PM

Painter/Wacom about 70mins, had some ref but done from scratch. Just trying to capture some light.

drawMonger - nice painterly style
grouse - looks cool just enough tone to give it some shape
pasto - looks great, like the way you've got the halos on the armour, face is good
Biped - nice & dynamic pose
Garma - you're improving loads, interesting idea - perhaps the rider is a little small?
Matthew-S - nice light

06 June 2004, 11:50 PM
Great enteries on a really tough topic! Love yours Dargon
here is my quickie: 30 min. Illustrator and Photoshop

06 June 2004, 11:54 PM
Dargon: Reaaaal nice!I really like it. But erm, did you use some kind of 3d render underneath? There are still aliased pixels showing through on the bottom right :D Still real good stuff. Great light and atmosphere. And I bet it looked better without all these filters...

pasto: real cool as well. I think the time on the face was worth it!

a real quick one. 40 minutes or so. But I really need some sleep tonight.

06 June 2004, 11:58 PM
a real quick one. 40 minutes or so. But I really need some sleep tonight.

40 minutes? no way...

06 June 2004, 12:05 AM
Well, it's mostly black. :B And if it wasn't that messy you could still see the drawing showing through.

Ephesus: At first I thought the image didn't load completely. The dark side is pretty weak in your world :D Maybe lighten up those lines?

06 June 2004, 12:20 AM
Was ina hurry to finish this one, hope you like :D Ill check back later, but from what ive seen so far this topic rocks ;)

06 June 2004, 12:40 AM
pasto: nice one!
Garma: you're improving very fast! congrats on that pic!!
Dargon: nice composition and colors
Stephan.S: what's going on with you!!! Thats really awsome!!!
and 40min!?'re sick!! :)

06 June 2004, 01:00 AM

06 June 2004, 01:19 AM
Thanx a lot Dargon (really nice one great angle), Goro, Kieronh, Garma.
Stephan it is really nice for 40 minutes !
I love your style Matthew.

I did a second version : you will think that I never work !

06 June 2004, 02:00 AM
Okay. I hope this reads right. I did Pasty White/Dark Knight. Because its Batman, and hes got a farmers tan and hes ...... and .... the tan is white and ..... because ...uhhhhhh ....

Oh forget it. 30 minute sketch. 1.5 hour sketch. I need a beer.

06 June 2004, 02:01 AM
That is stunning Pasto!

06 June 2004, 02:36 AM
really lovin' some of the submissions today!

20min - PS

In my family, my mother is the dark knight. :o

06 June 2004, 03:00 AM
Hi all, love all the pics

06 June 2004, 03:29 AM
:) ,Hey all, im just finding out about the part of the forum! Great addition, keeps you drawing on down times. Anyhow, heres my post for the white knight, hes black as you can tell, so I thought it would be funny this being the white knight topic! Took me 2 1/2 hours to do, mainly cous after the first hour I couldnt stop, so I kept detailing the face! Ill finish and post final when done.

06 June 2004, 03:33 AM

nice drawings today kids

i like how both the rider and mount are staring at me goro! awesome

nice perspective dargon, reminds me of jedi knight 2

well here's mine, hope you like it!!
I saw a pic like this and i tried to recreate the warmpth and feel of the photo. hand drawn

*edit* 45 mins in photoshop.. thanks for the comments!! */edit*

06 June 2004, 03:43 AM
I wanted to make it seem like he had a "dark" spirit/dragon inside him. Took about 49 minutes, used my wacom and a trial version of open canvas that apparently expired cause it wouldn't save, so I took a screenshot copied it over to photoshop.

06 June 2004, 03:50 AM
I decided to start entering these - a sketch a day can really get me rolling. I dont have a wacom tablet or anything like that, because I really cant afford one - so this is my 15 minute mouse sketch of my take.

the only line: White Knight " Ummmmm ... halt?"

hehe, here it is.

06 June 2004, 04:45 AM
I thought I had a unique idea, then I saw Bonzo's (very nicely done BTW):

Nobody's playing because they lost the other 30 pieces. :D
1.5 hours in photoshop

06 June 2004, 05:01 AM
Aaaaaaand this one's just plain silly:

I call it "Knights in White Satin". Photoshop, about an hour.

Some beautiful work, gang.
Kieronh - I like how the knight's armor reflects the checkered pattern.
Sagi - Nice detail, and you didn't even get caught by your prof.
SEL - I've got to see this when it's finished. Very impressive so far.
zzacmann - Beer's on me. That's just too funny.
Goro - Very intimidating. He's the last person I want to see before bed.

06 June 2004, 05:17 AM
heres mine 50 min/photoshop/wacom...found this to be a hard topic...

Agent D
06 June 2004, 07:00 AM
Lots of great entries today, it's going to be hard to pick one to vote for.

About half an hour, Painter 8:

06 June 2004, 08:26 AM
This one is not really finished, maybe if I find some time today I'll finish it to my satisfaction. 45 min, Painter.

06 June 2004, 08:57 AM
not really finished, but already worked way to long on it.
photoshop, wacom

06 June 2004, 09:14 AM
45 mins PS...

06 June 2004, 09:15 AM

Photoshop 3 hours

I spent way too much time on this, experimenting with things ... :banghead:

06 June 2004, 09:28 AM
-now that you and me are going to be crushed by this opressive redness that surounds us, I must tell you that... I AM YOUR FATHER!
- But... but... that can't be... because... because... I'M A ROBOT!
- Prove it
- Look, I have this really superb metashading device attached to my exoeskeleton/armor, that reflects light in funny ways that nature itself can't conceive! It works by redirecting light from it's source and making it spread throughout the space and then, .,.d.-.....

1:30/PS/Wcm/Total lack of knowledge about lighting

This week is like everybody boosted up to super sayiajin level 2 or something, high quality stuff. Garma has improved a lot indeed, congratulations!

Sir Patroclo

06 June 2004, 09:39 AM
thanks for the kind words guys, it boosts a man's spirit. I see a lot of awesome stuff, too much to mention them by name.

06 June 2004, 09:48 AM
A little rushed again but here it is.

30mins for the pencil sketch and another 40minutes for the colours in painter - [ evil is winning ]

06 June 2004, 09:56 AM
Well, I thought I would give this a shot too....

40 minutes with pen and paper.
5 minutes for minor clean-ups in PS.

06 June 2004, 10:32 AM
I am fully aware of how bad this sucks. I hate my mouse, and I can't WAIT until my intuos gets here. Anyways, this was the whitest knight I could think of...

06 June 2004, 10:33 AM
What about the 80's Knight Rider? wasn't he terribly dark?

1h45mn - Photoshop and wacom

06 June 2004, 10:37 AM

06 June 2004, 11:22 AM

Had to think of something else, after seeing previous entry's with chess knights. So I came up with this...

pencil on paper, 3 hrs.

No offence to MJ!

06 June 2004, 11:40 AM
White Knight, at the gates of hell, please note Hebrew emblems in the skull ;)

Âme noire
06 June 2004, 12:05 PM
My knight, hope I'm not to late :) Pencils 20 min

06 June 2004, 01:02 PM
some great entries so far, i really like bumskees, it has great composition
photoshop and a wacom 1 hour

Goblin King
06 June 2004, 01:14 PM
1.5 hours, wacom & photoshop

06 June 2004, 02:23 PM
A little late, but here's mine.

About 1/2 - 1 hour pencil/paper. It didn't come out like I wanted it to, and it's a bit messy 'cuz I started to fall asleep last night drawing it; and, hah, it's not really even a knight... oh well =). Perhaps I'll re-do it later.

Grouse, biped, garma, Mattew-S, dargon, kieronh, stephen.s, goro, pasto, squee, Agent D, bumskee, kirt, sir patrocio, and everyone else.... these are really great.

06 June 2004, 02:30 PM
about 1 hour in photoshop!!

06 June 2004, 02:58 PM
hmm.. I'm not the only one that thought about a chess knight... anyway, here is mine: the little-white-knight with his big-white-sword VS giant-evil-black-chess-knight... hope you like it

¿Strength VS Intelligence? ...mmm... maybe

About 1h, pencil on paper + mouse on photoshop

06 June 2004, 03:36 PM
Arrgh! Too bad i can't find the time to get anything decent done at all. Maybe i'll get the next one.

Lots of good entries this round.
Works i liked: pasto, Matthew-S, Dargon, stephan.s, Goro, SEL, bumskee, Kirt.

My fav would be Bonzo's. The chessboard looks like an edited picture/3d rendering. Even if it was, i still love the concept (so i should also mention Ilikesoup's too).

06 June 2004, 03:43 PM
Here's mine

PS & Wacom, about one hour

06 June 2004, 03:53 PM
Telémaco, that gets better the longer i look at it! This lightning effect of the laser swords is just fantastic, especially the yellow light on the armor of the white knight, i love it.

it could have been even better if you focused a bit on the landscape, but what the hell ;)
i find it good anyway

and how did you achieve this glowing effect? it almost seems liked rendered with a 3D program :argh:

06 June 2004, 04:52 PM
Sorry, thought I did something wrong...Delete this plz.

06 June 2004, 04:53 PM
It has 2 layers, one brushed with the yellow and white, then cloned it and blured a lot. Then, in the first one I apply a glow layer effect -in photoshop-. I think the main problem is how do you paint the white over the yellow, with the brush at 10% op over and over again till its ok.

(thx for the comments)

06 June 2004, 05:09 PM
I finally decide to join because i need to practise a lot more. I'll try to post as often as I'll be able.

here's my entry. PS about 1h30mn

06 June 2004, 09:36 PM

THANK YOU for sharing something of your knowledge

06 June 2004, 08:33 AM
tuzz, I am sorry I missed your post earlier and just saw it now, I hope this explanation will do and it is the same that I posted in that middle of nowhere thread earlier. Let me know if you want more explanation.

tuzz, "The texture and brushes is a tecnique that Craig Mullins have been experimenting with and a tecnique some guys in the speedy in Sijun started to fool around with aswell including me too.
First of all u are doing a speed sketch with the original brush which after u are adding an old painting above it to give texture, after that there is a lot of things that can be experimented with. The layers adjustment settings is one of them and with those settings u can change the whole of the picture.
Some guys are just using soft light in the layer but all of layers can be used if it is something special u are looking for in the picture.

This tecnique is also explained in wasssup's tutorial which I find to be a very good tutorial.

I guess at first this kind of tecnique can seem to be cheapish but it really helps with speeding things up and give it a more of a finished look. I hope my explanation helps here."

once again thanks for all the nice comments

06 June 2004, 09:16 AM
That is a wonderful tutorial.
Thank you for explaining your technique and please go on and provide such stunning art :)

06 June 2004, 12:02 PM

06 June 2004, 01:13 PM
