I am not sure what your question is, I think if you want to eventually finish your sketch you can, by then it might be late to post it here but you can post it in the COMPLETED 2d forum for critiques.
If you keep working on it today and make adjustments to it, you can post here again, thats fine I have seen people do that, and I have done that myself.
I hope I answered ur question.

i could only think of the gatekeeper from the greek mithology (i think) where you give him 2 coins for a boat ride to the other side of the river :)

06 June 2004, 02:54 AM

PS 40 mins. I used photo reference, but changed the pose a bit. Much quicker this way, though.

06 June 2004, 02:59 AM
nice idea ilikesoup... why not draw an actual gatekeeper right? :)

06 June 2004, 03:00 AM

2.5 hours or so

06 June 2004, 03:55 AM
Stephen.S that's just plain awesome.

06 June 2004, 03:58 AM
Great topic. Great entries so far - keep going guys! Ephesus you make it look simple but it's still darn impactful! Goro i envy your coloring skills! stephan s. incredible art as usual!
I haven't had time to do the past couple ones so thought i'd give this a shot.
Too busy busy busy busy to do it right though :(.
Started coloring but it wasn't going the way i wanted so i decided to leave it raw. The gate doesn't look so obvious does it? :((
Pencil 40 min.

06 June 2004, 03:59 AM
Sorry I waited til the last 20 minutes to do this. Just had a sorta funny idea.

06 June 2004, 04:32 AM
bah not alot of time...

06 June 2004, 04:33 AM
Some really great artists here,

Stephan S that is awesome

Nice pencil work Mahir

Moody as always Goro

Interesting Ephesus

Dargons reminds me of a graphic novel cover, creeeeeepy!

06 June 2004, 04:49 AM
Here's mine - bout 1:30 in PS w/ WACOM Tablet...

Some really great ones today - I liked this topic...

Stephen S, I love you're style, it really reminds me of a lot of fantasy art, especially with the piece you did today.
Goro, yours is excellent as usual.
Ephesus' I really like, great graphic look to it.
Mahir - I like the interpretation, nice pencil work, your's might be my favorite, despite how you may feel about the picture. I noticed the gate right away.
Telemaco as usual blew me away, some of the most natural line work I've ever seen with a tablet - whew!

Look forward to future posts.

06 June 2004, 05:04 AM
painter 45 min

06 June 2004, 05:35 AM
With profound apologies to Sigourney Weaver (no ref used, and it shows):

"Are YOU the Key Master?"
45mins photoshop. I'm happy with the light and dark values, but would love some crits.

Mahir -- great concept and very nice detail.
Dargon -- gotta ask why the pole is sticking through him?
anim_ziggy -- sketchy, but really like her pose and eyes.
Biped -- great somber tone. I hear Gregorian chants.

Garma -- love the different red hues that you used. If the torch light reaches the other side of the doorway it should probably light part of the floor as well. Also there's a red line from the top of the doorway to the figure's neck. Did your character hang itself? Good pic overall.

Pasto -- nice perspective on the fence, but your guardian looks like it's drawn from a separate perspective. Good, though.

Sagi_13 -- Try giving your creature a more distinct form, either by using a lighter background or hilights on some of the edges. Of course if it's a shadow creature just forget I said anything .:)

Best in show honors to Stephan, Goro and Telemaco and apologies to those that I missed. Great work so far!

06 June 2004, 05:36 AM
This was hard! I think I made five or six different concepts before I gave up and just did the traditional.

2 hrs. Photoshop. Mouse

stephen.s - - Wow!
pasto - - Nice!
made in uterus - - Sweet!
Dargon - - Incredible!
Ephesus - - That was what I first tried to do. Yours is much better.

Here's my gatekeeper. Photoshop. About 2.5 hours

06 June 2004, 08:21 AM
"anim_ziggy -- sketchy, but really like her pose and eyes.

Great sketches!!!!
This is my first sketch here, and my first coloured sketch ever...(easier than I expected)
In spanish this one is called cancerbero, the keeper of Hell's gates, I think in english it's called Kerberos, or at least there is a security system called like that...

about 45 min - 1h, pencil+scan+photoshop
(please tell me if the image isnt showing)

I'm not sure about the rules... am I late for posting this?

06 June 2004, 08:15 PM

Just got back from a weekend away with my wife, so I hope I'm in time for this daily sketch.

Goblin King
06 June 2004, 10:15 PM
1.5 hours - Wacom & photoshop

06 June 2004, 08:51 AM
how do i imbed an image/url into the postings for this?

also as far as things go, i'd like to treat every one of these "daily sketches" as a starting point for a WIP...

this time around i've workd mb an extra 2 hours to get to the next point that i'm posting for the Gatekeeper thread... but i'd like to continue and finish it as a peice...should i continue posting it here?

anyway... i'll do it and hope

06 June 2004, 09:36 AM
Selvagem, here's the way I do it. If you go to & get a free account there you can host images there & show them in the threads. Images can't be over 256k but you get 100mb storage space which is pretty good!

06 June 2004, 04:58 PM
ah... thanks Kieronh

hope this works...
this is what i was trying to initially updating with... its still a little flat, but thats easily remedied... i'm just happy to have most of the elements blocked out now... mb do a bit more background work... could finish it in a couple hours if i did more work... but i'm off to do something else...

[any crits feedback? should i bother finishing it here?!]

06 June 2004, 05:28 AM
She asks you nicely to leave the place...

2:15+PS+Wcm+a lot of repainting her

Got tired the day when it was supposed to be due, finished it today

Thanks for the comments in other threads. Bumped into Goro's Beauty of Life, amazing work!

Sir Patroclo

06 June 2004, 10:06 AM
