I am relativle new to the CG cominity and 3d modeling yet not a complete novince. Some of my accomplishments where a few weapons for game mods (about 3000 polys) but i feel like I am ready to move on to higher poly, more detailed modeling. Since I've been using shapes with extrude/boolean, I am not to familiar with Spline modeling, like so...

A couple of things:
First hot linking that image directly from Skyraiders website is NOT cool, you are using up his bandwidth.
As for your question, there is a spline modeling tutorial included in the max tutorials, and there are several good tuts online. I would suggest using google, and searching that way.
