This is the scaled up thumbnail that I will be using for the coloring.

So this is the b/w lineart colored in some basic colors. First try on the colors/lighting. Hasn't really decided on the lightsource. Trying to keep the panic of the close deadline at bay...

Anyway, in case someone wonders tha concept is as follows:

This is a biomechanical figurehead on a ship that is rising in a shaft. The figurhead, while attached to the vehicle has no choice to leave it is still in command of the ship and is, in a way, its captain or at least its first mate...

Maybe I should have uploaded this first...
Anyway, these are a collection of some quick sketches/concepts that I eventually hope to use in the final product.
I guess I'll have to continue down my choosen path since I know I will only be able to finish one piece. Puh...should have entered the competition earlier. So many talented artist to learn good stuff from. Well.....we'll see what happens....

changed perspective and pose a little... gotta get the basics straight before fleshing it out....

hmm...trying a similar but hopefully more dynamic pose...

Trying again. This time starting with the light.

Can't seem to get my figurehead in the direction I want so I tried a different theme.

I really liked the concept sketch in your 06-16-2004 10:49 AM post. It looks like the figurehead from the top of a building that once surveyed a city skyline but has been superseded by much taller buildings. It's now hidden away in the canyon between skyscrapers with only a thin shaft of light illuminating it. It could be very atmospheric in a Blade Runner, cyberpunk kind of way. Good luck in the last few days of the competition!
