Photoshop 1.5 hrs (must get faster :banghead:)

06 June 2004, 05:07 PM
OK, I think I am again slightly off subject, but this was the first thing that popped up in my mind.

Bodypaint 2, Wacom, 30 minutes

06 June 2004, 05:13 PM
about an hour in Photoshop

poor little bot...

06 June 2004, 06:31 PM
goro - your bots are tops mate! gj

06 June 2004, 06:44 PM
Damn it Goro ... exactly the same idea.
Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Very nicely done BTW. (At least better than mine was turning out)

06 June 2004, 06:52 PM
I did a lost and found video exercise in 2002 using Bjork's song, Domestica. The piece was dictated by the song (plot and timing) and was a fun exercise. I don't have the video online but if someone really wants to see it, i can try to get it up.

for today's drawing, i just took a still from my video and did a face/planes study. i didn't clean it up because i liked archeo's icarus drawing from yesterday. it was nice seeing his lines and how he built it up. anyway.

30 minutes

you can view the original still here (

06 June 2004, 07:19 PM
Haha nice Goro

I think this was a bit better in my head...

Goro - that robot is fantastic! You are rapidly becoming my hero.

*edit* whoops! Photoshop, mouse, 30 minutes

06 June 2004, 07:47 PM
haha aj - i dig the simple character, muchos style. it took a sec to realize that it was a foot.. good stuff.

06 June 2004, 08:26 PM
Goro, that robot is wonderful. the whole story is there, and he's cute too.

AJ_23, same thing, the story is really clear, and i love that clear, graphic style.

06 June 2004, 08:28 PM
PS 45min

06 June 2004, 08:47 PM
"After having searched the sea-bottom for so many months, it took quite some talking for Mr.Jones to believe this was actually his long lost pet Bubbles.."

Done in Open Canvas 3.0, +-40mins, not much again but Ill post it anyway..

06 June 2004, 10:07 PM

06 June 2004, 10:16 PM
"I got it I got it, aggh where is it, there it is, get it get it, where's it gone, nearly gotcha, got it, aggh, come here........."

10min pencil sketch, Wacom/Painter, trying out the water colours, just has hard as real life lol. Sheesh. 40mins.

artemesia66 - like this one, perhaps the camera would have been better lower so you get the explorers awe looking up as well?
Goto - great, love the little trail of bolts behind.
J_Grieve - hehe like the little touch of the days being chalked out in the corner.
AJ_23 - nice style as always
Supervlieg - hehe great expression

06 June 2004, 10:17 PM
a different take: the guy is lost...the monster found him. 30 min sketch aprox. photoshop 0 min.

06 June 2004, 10:18 PM
LOL Supervlieg! That is brilliant! :D

made in uterus - very nice style although I'm a little puzzled by the 'binocular' white mark...? It makes the bath look like a hidden face (which is no bad thing) - just curious if that was your intention?

iamintricate - nice and straight forward, but I'm going to have to say 'no' to the lensflares...!

JDex - nice concept, it would be great to see the top part of the head flapping on a hinge.

06 June 2004, 10:41 PM
lol, thnkx aj, the only thing left in the bath on purpose is a sponge bath, no intencional hidden face by me ;D

06 June 2004, 10:49 PM
thnx Guys!
I'm glad you like my poor robot:)

Can't wait to see your entry.

nice one! Great composition.
You buy a wacom you'll kill us all :applause:

made in uterus
Nice expressions love the cat!

cool perspective! nice Idea! Great expression what more can
I say...

06 June 2004, 11:05 PM
This drawing has a little story to explain the things.

This morning I was walking in the dormitory hall and I find a Harvard athletic membership pas. On the back side of the pas I saw that a room number was written on it. I go to the door and nock on it. A cute girl open the door. I try to say something but I cant find the right words, maybe I was to shy.
But one thing was for sure I got lost in her beautiful eyes…

A big eraser and some pencils, about 3 hours of drawing.

danke for the comment - but man you gotta lay off the anti-lens flare thing... i didn't USE filter-lens flare, merely a circle brush to show flares of the sun. its an element that is in renders, life, and photography - might as well be in 2d as well. .. thanks tho

06 June 2004, 12:44 AM
great stuff AJ!

Kieronh, really like your idea.

ahh, a bit off, 20mins Photoshop

06 June 2004, 12:50 AM

Resisting the urge to use colour, but it's difficult.

06 June 2004, 01:04 AM
Great work everyone, I am really looking foward to these daily sketches every day and seeing what people will come up with. very cool.

One thing though, I feel I must mention. There is no need to post after submitting a drawing "I suck" or "this is not as good" when talking of ones own work. 1st of all we all know that this is a daily sketch and that not much time can be attributed.
2nd many people might really like your work and not be as good as you are, and feel that they must really suck because they are not even close to the work that is your worse.

I personally dont care really, I know I have a lot to learn still but I will post my stuff even if others are better than me. I do it for the practice, (practice makes perfect) but others might be discouraged to post if they think that things they cant even imagine doing are considered crap by their own makers.

just a thought. I am not directing this to no one specifically and do not mean to offend anyone. :) plus no one here should say their work is not good, everything I have seen so far has been great!, keep it up and dont put yourselfs down.

06 June 2004, 01:17 AM
You're so right Sagi, I wont say I suck anymore, promise :)
Anyway, once I done my first drawing I really dug into this great proggy called Open Canvas and did two small ones, both +- 30-40mins...

First One:
"Although Miss Jones was still lost in the desert, she was quite pleased with the perfectly matching hat she had found.."

"Mister Smith wondered where on earth he had left his latest victim.."

I promise you all, these where the last (for today :bounce: )

06 June 2004, 01:31 AM
here is a try for the daily sketch thread.....PS and around 1:30

06 June 2004, 01:41 AM
Alice: The kid is cute! :D

artemesia66: Nice form! I like the simple look conveying the idea.

marcboy: That's just... strange!

Goro: Everything you do is instantly frameable. My desktop will have to do for now.

vinylequinox: She looks a bit scary!

J_Grieve: Nice, simple idea. Conveys the meaning perfectly!

Cyro: Heh... oldie but a timeless classic!

iamintricate: Great look and feel. The light swell at the back works well.

AJ_23: You should make a book of these. Seriously. You sweat talent and humour like some kinda sweaty humour-skill creature.

JDex: Love it. That's where I keep mine too. :D

PaulZ: So many variations! You keep busy!

made in uterus: The cat and woman are great! Can't exactly work out what the rest is, but I love your characters.

sagi_13: Heh... I'm working on a similar theme to this one!

Supervlieg: Beautiful work man. What else can I say?

Kieronh: Took me a moment, but then I got it! I love the expression!

Archeophant: Nice feel. The colour especially.

m-art: I had a moment like that once. You always kick yourself later for not saying anything!

bumskee: It's not off at all! Up there in my favourites for this session!

Clanger: Ah, another classic. The guy is hilarious! :D

Great work all round everyone.
I'll be posting later today (when I get home).

The little splash off the right ear is a lovely touch too.

06 June 2004, 02:36 AM
Thank you, erilaz.

EDIT: Though... now that I think about it, it's not within the image size requirements. Gotta fix it real quick.

06 June 2004, 04:10 AM

The Beef. I was wondering if anyone would get this or not. Turns out when I took it down to 640 x 480 I couldn't really read it that well myself. But what the hey. Its late and Im tired.

06 June 2004, 04:40 AM
"Heh.. where's the beef... no wonder he won." :D

I love the lighting you've done in that one zzacmann.

Ilikesoup: Very parodical. :)

06 June 2004, 04:43 AM
Too much fun! Another 15m sketch, 1hr ps

I just went big boy golfing for the first time Sunday. I could have used a hand.

Digital painting is definitely more funner than digital cleaning up stray pencil marks and coloring in. Quicker, too.
Great work everybody!

06 June 2004, 04:49 AM

The thing in his hand is an ear. I got lazy and don't want to fix it. :)

Photoshop/Graphire 2 (Ugh, Want a BIGGER ONE!)/Close to 1.5hrs

06 June 2004, 04:59 AM
i could have sworn the topic today was before and after

well, here's an entry for before and after

bonzo <-- brileant

06 June 2004, 05:52 AM
I would like to continue work on this one.
The sketch took 15 seconds, the inkwork took 20 seconds, the color layout took 15 minutes.

06 June 2004, 06:50 AM
dakingpen, great sketch dude, there's something scarey about that pic though...:surprised

ILIKESOUP, I really like the innocent feel of the image, it fits the topic really well, very comical and the knight with the club looks good. :D

06 June 2004, 06:57 AM
I think this was a "Herman" cartoon. So, originality +0 for me. Anyhoo ... cat's got your teeth!

Paper to Photoshop 3.5 hours

DaKingPen - sick (and I mean that in a good way)
Andyman - My favorite for today. Nice mood and atmosphere!

06 June 2004, 07:20 AM
dakingpen - under a minute for a the sketch & inked?! .. i'd love to see what you could do w/ some TIME behind it... nuts man.

kirt - i didn't get it until i read "cats got your teeth" - excellently executed!

06 June 2004, 08:00 AM

You know how it is...:)

Stuff: Photoshop, wacom. Lunchbreak (about an hour).

06 June 2004, 08:08 AM
LOL, good stuff erilaz. Kirt that looks awsome, yeah I also didn't get it till the cat got your teeth bit.

another contribution, decided to take the lil girl and the doll a bit further. 30 mins Photoshop wacom

06 June 2004, 08:10 AM
im so lame, hahaha

photoshop cs, 15 minutes

im so tired, it seemed cool...

06 June 2004, 08:11 AM
Alice - Love the clean lines (wish mine flow like that)

artemsia66 - very nice painting, you will get faster. Me too!! I hope

marcboy - LOL, I thought they just fought big bugs.

Goro - What can I say, another gem

vinylequinox - I like the sketch, there's definitely a expression of shock on her face

J_Grieve - I really like this sketch and the colors are perfect.

Cryo - LMAO, good stuff

iamintricate - Good sense of action in that one, but what is that thing is is looking for?

AJ-23 - That should be a poster. Great design!

Me :p - Do better!

PaulZ - I love the fish! You're style of drawing heads is very cool.

made in uterus - hehe, poor kitty.

sagi_13 - I know exactly where you're coming from

Supervlieg - Great character, lossed my marbles crossed my mind as well ;)

Kieronh - The water colors have a good feel, but I am perplexed, is it chasing it's tail or did it just get kicked across the lawn?

Archeophant - Way to turn it around on us!

m-art - very comic book-esque style there, I like it.

bumskee - I love this image

Clanger - I love how he just doesn't seem to care. Color away, don't be afraid.

richd - That has to be the happiest milkcarton picture I have ever seen

Andyman - An hour... teach me oh might mouse wielder!

zzachman - another "choice" drawing... very cool

Ilikesoup - Man, that idea crossed my mind as well, I love the black eye. The gold sketch is frikken hilarious.

DiMENSiON - Oh man, too bad you lost interest, it looks great.

Bonzo - Ooops, still a great sketch... perhaps you had a momentary "lost your mind" moment. Glad you found it!

DaKingPen - Whoa, that guy looks way to happy to be in that situation... great concept

Kirt - That is great! Took me a few seconds to remember what efferdent was... Beautiful as usual

erilaz - missing organs! great minds think alike

Thanks for the comments guys, I am really starting to feel confidence with the wacom. This sketch group is exactly what I need. Big-upz to everyone.

hehe lol, he's chasing his tail, the idea was he's lost the tail then he's found it etc & repeats until collapse :) I think the grass is a problem, gives it a weird perspective, thanks for the feedback

Blah, I didn't feel like drawing today, and I messed this one up. It's an amulet underneath some floorboards.
Done in Painter 8. About an hour because I changed the background several times.

06 June 2004, 10:01 AM
argh, this is the last time I do the daily grind this late :(

this is my third try  first got caught by Goro (excellent execution btw) before I finished it, second sucked too much and even this third isn't completely new anymore (Erilaz).

I lost interest in the subject. I am not happy with the result. Better luck next time.

Hi folks!

After 20 years Odysseus finds home

painter / 1hr

06 June 2004, 11:18 AM
Bumskee, I wish I could do that style; Kirt, I really like your coloring, and Agent D, for some reason it's just fun to stare at the cool red thing on your amulet.

Great stuff all you guys : ). Thanks for your compliments on mine, I appreciate them alot. Hah, I was just looking at it and... it seems the bear's left ear is twice the size of his right ear. Ah well.

06 June 2004, 11:40 AM

I'm a bit late today, but before the new topic at least :p

Uniball pen on paper, colour in Photoshop CS, erm 70 minutes I think.
Hope youse can see what's going on, the idea is 'thesaus found the exit, too bad the minotaur had a brother' ^^)

06 June 2004, 12:28 PM
I love this forum.
All I do is sketch all day (when I'm not doing other stuff.
All the talented artist here. I'm inspired and my hands are shaking in anticipation for more.

Thank you iamintricate, bumskee, JDex.
I sketch fast, but paint, model, other stuff, I'm slow.

JDex- Your sketch explains what happens to me every week, so your saying, if I look in the top draw...:hmm: Damn, still can't find it.

06 June 2004, 01:08 PM
Yeah I agree with DaKingPen. This daily sketching thing was a really great idea. Im looking forward to it every day. Just a shame I'm going on holiday in a few days. Ill bring along my sketchbook and post my sketches after I return. They probably be overtime but what the hey.

And now for some random feedback.

Drawmonger: Nice atmosphere!

Jawine: Good colors in the front, though I dont really know the story of the minotaur.

Kirt: Nice execution, great style on the char.

DaKingPen: Great lines dude. And unbelievable speed.

Bumskee: Thats a great little mess, I like the shadow.

Andyman: Great little bear. Nice lighting.

zzacmann: I like the light. Really good underwater feeling

Kieronh: Great, I like dogs doing stupid things.

Archeophant: Nice drawing. I like the monster.

AJ_23: Nice use of color. The pic is very Gary Larsonesque. All it needs is a brilliant punchlince.

To the rest: Keep it up!
