here's mine. Sorry for not being creative :hmm: I'm in a terrible hurry.

See ya next week all of ya - won't have access to my tablet this weekend

p.s. Photoshop / 15 minutes

06 June 2004, 03:09 PM
photoshop +- 25 minutes.

Don't want offend any americans, but with such a title it's hard to think of anything else.

06 June 2004, 03:10 PM
Showing my age here:

Pencil: 45mins

06 June 2004, 03:45 PM

06 June 2004, 04:31 PM
Aaaaa! UnlikelyCorny -- nice work! Not offended, but I guess truth hurts. Shrewd turn of phrase.

My new motto: make art, not war!

06 June 2004, 04:53 PM
Great stuff so far!

UnlikleyCorny: I'm with ya there.

Great idea. Laught my pants off!

06 June 2004, 06:17 PM
It was only a matter of time before this one was done. Cliche, I know ;)

19 Min in photoshop w/ WACOM tablet.

06 June 2004, 06:53 PM
Here it is. 7mins in biro again...
i gotta stop drawing in a cartoon style, lol.

06 June 2004, 06:57 PM

It was very tempting to go for a political one with this subject. But I dececid against it, since monkeys are fun to draw by themselves.

PS/WT/15M <---Stands for PhotoShop, WacomTablet, 15 Minutes. So you'll know in next posts. Im a lazy typer.

06 June 2004, 07:51 PM
Very Nice Supervlieg!

I like how you chose to make the guns yellow... like bananas and its funny that the monkeys have no clue what to do with these weapons. Nice expressions and great colours!

06 June 2004, 08:07 PM
Pencil sketch, 10 minutes.

06 June 2004, 08:48 PM

Bah no time to paint this one up, maybe I'll get time later but here's the pencil sketch anyway. 10 mins on the train home.

Clanger - haha great idea

Supervlieg - like this one, great expressions & the yellow guns are perfect

06 June 2004, 09:10 PM
Hehe... this isnt even original anymore... supervlieg: de max manneke.

Wacom, 30mins Photoshop

06 June 2004, 09:16 PM
UnlikelyCorny: I think it goes both ways.
Cyro:very funny made me laugh.

Well heres mine, I would have drawn some terrorists with guns, since that is my idea of monkeys with guns, or should I say monsters with bombs, but I dont have time, and this is the best thing I could draw in only 8 minutes (Its Friday Night I am going out baby!)
8 minutes, Paper and pencil

lol the guard on the back seems to be brake dancing.

06 June 2004, 09:45 PM
bonzo draw monkey for the first time
20mins ps

he's kinda ugly.. and misshapen

AND SO AM I!!! :(:(:(

Very primary, very brutal, no inspiration, no excuse...

Photoshop, Mouse, 20 minutes

06 June 2004, 10:45 PM
PS CS / Wacom / 10 min

another quick lunchtime sketch. A little lacking in originality.... ok, ok. A lot lacking in originality.

If I get more time maybe I can spruce it up some. :p

06 June 2004, 11:09 PM
Here's my monkey for today...More then 1, less then 2 hours work (lost track somewhere)...not the most inspired piece Im afraid but I learned quite something about monkeys along the way so I guess it was worth it :)... copy.jpg

06 June 2004, 11:47 PM
Supervlieg nice monkeys!

here is my evil monkey
1h 30min Photoshop

06 June 2004, 12:08 AM
my monkey with a gun.

pencil and paper 20 min.

06 June 2004, 12:55 AM
awesome as usual goro..

here's another try by me, this time with reference..

it took around 2 hours.. (from last post till this post) (had dinner too)

i'm happy..

here's the reference picture used..
i typed "monkey gun" at getty images.. haha

06 June 2004, 01:24 AM
Here is my first one, pales in comparison with most of you pros. PS, 45 mins.

06 June 2004, 02:54 AM
Well I did a rough sketch and then used a pen on it which took about 15 minutes. The coloring part didn't improve the appearance as I'm still struggling to paint with the Wacom but total time of about 90 minutes coloring in PSP. At the end I used a 'soft mood' filter to try to hide some of my rough lines. Not happy but I spent more time than I thought -good topic though as I rough sketched 3 other ideas but ran out of time.

P.S. Not sure if it is apporpriate to ask for critiques in a quick sketch forum but if it is then pointers are appreciated.

06 June 2004, 03:47 AM
Decided to go literal with this one. 30 minute sketch. 90 minute Photoshop coloring.
Remember: "There is no banana."

06 June 2004, 03:53 AM
Shoot, you guys are all very good. Great thread.

06 June 2004, 04:04 AM
Bonzo -- love your first pic. Haven't laughed that hard in awhile. Might use that as wallpaper if you don't mind.

Goro -- Your speedpaints are the stuff legends are made out of. Looks like something Bernie Wrightson would do (early Mad Magazine).

Dirj -- Has a kind of Reservoir Dogs mood going on. Nice.

Here's mine:

20 minutes or so on paper, 1 hr in photoshop. I think he looks kinda looks like Lupin III. Enjoy.

06 June 2004, 05:13 AM
Sometimes a quicky is just what you need. ;)

5 minutes, PS

06 June 2004, 05:19 AM
Okay, who's up for a baboon butt shot?

30 mins sketch, photoshop 2 or 3 hours "experimenting". Sorry if it looks grainy. Tried reducing from 256 to 16 colors to save memory. Sleep now. Dream about naners. . .

06 June 2004, 05:29 AM
Worked mostly on dynamics and proportions. :buttrock:

See anything you like ?

06 June 2004, 06:05 AM
Just noticed that on mine 'Chiquita' only has one leg . ....

06 June 2004, 07:43 AM

high above the river, below the peak of mount jim jam, clarence stood guard. stood guard, protecting the hidden temple. in the temple? bananas, bananas god damn it.

06 June 2004, 08:10 AM

painter 7, wacom, 5 minutes

06 June 2004, 09:54 AM
best subject yet! - lots of creative original pieces, can't even narrow it down to a few.

06 June 2004, 10:05 AM
best subject yet? not in my oppinion, i can't think of anything original to do, and by the looks of it, neither can you!! (hope i didn't offend to many people with that remark) don't get me wrong the callibre of the work is good, but it's all depicting the same thing, at least with the other topics we had a chance to add our own thoughts... sorry, it's been a long day! I just think the title is too specific, maybe I'm just lacking that creative juice!

06 June 2004, 02:16 PM

Scribble+Photoshop CS, about 90 mins in total.
Yup not really original.

@grouse: I must agree with your crits that this topic might be a bit too specific, so far the contributions seem to vary less from each other than in the other threads. But it's hard enough to come up with ideas fort this thread so i didn't mind and joined in with my not so original scribble anyway ^^)

true, but don't forget that it's just plain fun to draw monkeys with guns! I thought of some alternatives, but choosed to stick with the most obcious just because it is fun.

06 June 2004, 03:40 PM
I think I'm just making it in with this entry!! I couldn't miss 2 days in a row. I might start slacking ;)

about an hour invested.
ball-point pen on printer paper.

06 June 2004, 04:07 PM
Just had a funny idea.. :)
photoshop+wacom 10-15mins
And yeah, I know its ugly :buttrock:

06 June 2004, 05:08 PM

Best regards
Filipe Alves

06 June 2004, 06:55 PM
Too late? I've just watched Lucky Luke on TV :)

Painter, ~15 min

06 June 2004, 07:39 PM

Decided to get back into painter rather than carry on the last idea. Took about 40/50 mins all together, probably missed the deadline though?

Anyway did the sketch in Painter with the Reed Pen but wow the Palette Knife in painter was a bit of a revelation. Never used it before but had great fun slapping all the colour down, its cool the pen angle makes a difference  Then added a red Splatter Water just to get some blood in there to emphasise the primal moment :scream:

augustus - looks cool, like the Lucky Luke comic, shooting his shadow before it can move.

jawine - like this one, looks like he hit the saloon 1st :)

Goro - excellent, conjures up a story, jealous chimp or something.

06 June 2004, 09:13 PM

photoshop cs, wacom, 5-10 minutes

06 June 2004, 11:36 AM
"Guns don´t kill people, people do. (and monkeys, if they have a gun)"

Great work everyone! When trying to sketch sometging for this one I realized I haven´t drawn enough monkeys in my life. Now I´ve done a few... still not enough.
