06 June 2004, 04:09 PM
hehe, nice one.

This ones a bit more tricky, not sure what I'm going to go for!

there's a story by HG Wells about an astronaut who gets caught in an explosion and thrown through the fourth dimension when he comes back he's swapped over, so his heart is on the right side and stuff. Thought I might go down this route!!

Well even if i don't I hope I've given the rest of you some ideas!

06 June 2004, 04:12 PM

1. Lovely consept and nice details!
2. Personaly I like it to be all cartoony or all realistic, right now, its a mix between 2 styles it feels like.

Fun idea :)

Took a while to see what it was, throw some colour on the bathingstuffs :)

I envy people who can scetch with colour!

Painter 7, Wacom, 'bout 20 minutes

06 June 2004, 08:16 PM
Medium : pencil and paper
Time: 50minutes

Comments: Something along the lines of demon from beyond...maybe one of the seven planes of hell. Anyways, he's coming to get run, RUN.

06 June 2004, 08:19 PM

Uh, probably like 45 minutes.
Photoshop with a Graphire2. Yuck.
Eh... cartoonish clearly :D I'm just trying to get back up to speed and get to work a little bit.
Also: Hopefully there's no new guy waiting time for this post D:

edit: there was a waiting time :(

I hate this stupid "new guys have to have their posts checked before they go up." So I post at like 4:30PM and its up at 8:30, but now its buried in the middle of the thread :( Soon I won't be new though, I guess.

06 June 2004, 08:26 PM
Here's my submission for the daily sketch (I just love the idea).....more of a "What lies beyond?" take on the subject...30 mins with wacom in photoshop..Didnt come out like I hoped (especially compared to some of the great things I saw here) but I wont shy anymore and just post it anyway..

btw, I hope this picture shows correctly for you guys...

Quick Lunchtime sketch.

Wacom / Photoshop / 20 min

06 June 2004, 09:29 PM
The theme "From beyond" was actually taken from a short story by H.P. Lovecraft. It's quite a nice little story.

Here's mine, a bit inspired by the story obviously.

Edit: Photoshop/Wacom/25 minutes.

06 June 2004, 09:29 PM

Done with Charcoal in around 25-30 minutes. I have gotten extremely fast using charcoal. Sorry that the picture doesnt show off the picture very well but my camera ran out of juice to I had to set up the picture close to an outlet.

Hope you all like

kind of brighter

06 June 2004, 10:31 PM

Heh... when did I become an eighth grader again? Ha.

This was done in 2 minute playblast increments, with no forethought of where it was going. It just kinda happened. Probably about 15 mins drawing with a big clumbsy pen, and then a minute in Photoshop for the colors. As rough as rough can get!

06 June 2004, 10:56 PM
mdme_sadie, that's beautiful! I love your colour choices and the graininess of the painting.
AJ_23, that design is great! Looks warner-ish, like a concept for a duck dogers episode! Love it!
Supervlieg, the mood from this sketch is awesome - gotta read that story, it looks good!
This sketch forum idea is just what I've been waiting for - now I've gotta work on my Painter skills!
Great work all! :)

06 June 2004, 11:03 PM
3 min sketch in pen. 1 hr photoshop

06 June 2004, 11:25 PM
Pencil again, 30mins this time

06 June 2004, 11:31 PM

5min pencil sketch, scanned, 30mins Wacom & Painter, getting into the Oil Pastels today :)

aminator - yeah like it, need more zombie horses

thesightsmith - almost what I was thinking of doing at the start, something like the end of Carrie ;)

vinylequinox - cool style there like hand dragging the ground up

Garma - reminds me of Signs for some reason, needs a cornfield ;)

Rio Yeti - like the luminosity

mdme_sadie - nice feel to the 2nd one, exterior calm

AJ_23 - excellent, love the characters pose

Good stuff,

06 June 2004, 11:53 PM
Today's sketch, didnt find a good lighting for this one... The water is missing a lot, but I think this one is simply too hard to draw completely by hand.

It's the boatman from Greek Mythology

Photoshop Wacom 2 Hours.

06 June 2004, 12:06 AM
Good work everyone! Half Hour/ Painter 8

06 June 2004, 12:07 AM
Archeophant: Great character design. Also very nice use over color. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that though. I like

Kieronh: Beautiful mood here.

AJ_23: Stinks with style.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far! I look forward to tomorrow.

06 June 2004, 12:38 AM
Picture this. You're a peace loving blue pig, when all of a sudden some jerk wizard can't find his daughter for FIVE SECONDS, and decides to raise some bloodthirsty zombie. This zombie then slaughters your kind, just so he can take your orbs and "POWER UP" or somesuch. Here's to Altered Beast, possibly one of the worst- I mean greatest games ever.

Hour and ten minutes, with photoshop and WACOM tablet. (Would've taken me less time, but I forgot to draw the final lines on a seperate layer and had to erase around em).

06 June 2004, 12:47 AM
Oh my well here is mine, From Beyond "Ouija"
that is what we call those boards in spanish not sure what you call them in english (same thing?)
anyway Paper and pencil 30 minutes.

06 June 2004, 12:56 AM

Had fun with this. I call it "Madame Cleo & Her Eternal Reward"

20 minutes with pencil and paper.

After that 1 hr wrassling with technical stuff.
Hope you like

06 June 2004, 12:57 AM

Very interesting stuff :) on these two days. I wonder where this thread will go over the next few months.

Photoshop CS, 45min, Wacom

06 June 2004, 01:07 AM
This took about 20 minutes to draw with pencil and then trace with a pen.

This is an example of an alien terrestrial angler fish that through an accelerated process of evolution has evolved lures designed to attract humans. A few examples of succesful lures are in the margin but there were an equal number of failures; for example the 'burger' lure was only effective 50% of the time in California because of the health concious and the fact that the anglers would frequently bite of thier own lures, however the tofu lure was especially deadly in these environs.

06 June 2004, 01:49 AM
1.5 hours, sketch (pencil) and paint (PS 7)... with a mouse

06 June 2004, 01:51 AM
This is just a quick sketch I did in about 10 mins, very minor color balancing in Photoshop. Also I just wanted to thank everyone for the kind words from yesterday’s submission. Everyone’s work is really great, here’s my contribution! Keep it going.

He's from beyond for sure.

06 June 2004, 01:57 AM
Even though I can't post an image, I just want you all to know that this is great stuff for lazy mofos like me who need to knuckle down and get back into their sketchbooks. No more whining about not having a theme for me - just fire up Mozilla and a browse to here will be all I need

06 June 2004, 02:21 AM
Allright. "From Beyond" 3 min pen sketch. 45 minutes coloring in Photoshop. Worked from 9 to 6 and went to a birthday party from 6:30 to 9, so I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked. But Im tired, so therefore this piece is finished. Enjoy.

06 June 2004, 02:22 AM
Nice entries

This is a great new addition to CGtalk!

06 June 2004, 04:31 AM
Tons of great stuff today wow :D
Alice i love that style ;)

Today's topic was From Beyond and I couldn't really think of From beyond rather than the typical stuff, at one point I was gonna draw a chrismas picture with the From: saying Beyond! wooow how original :P So I just screwed around with ideas, then I went to jujitsu and got the crap beat out of me and at one point someone whacked my head pretyt hard and i think it jolted something and I came out with this o_O.. wether it was good or bad, well I'll let you figure that out :D

06 June 2004, 04:51 AM
I'm reading this Dean Koontz book "Strange Highways" - which has lil short stories, and one of them is called "Miss Atila the Hun" .. anyways, here is a few lines from the book that gave me the idea.

He noticed something odd in the ground between his booted feet.

The thing appeared to be about twice as large as a football. The surface was highly
polished, as glossy as a ceramic glaze. The thing was dakly mottled blue and black and green, and it had
a strange beauty.

He was about to get off the rock, drop to his hands and knees, and dig the mysterious object out of the
soil, when holes opened in several places across its surface. In the same instant, black and glossy
plantlike tendrils exploded toward him. Some whipped around his head and neck, others around his arms,
still others around his feet. In three seconds he was snared.

I wanted to do another scene with the "seed's" tendrils coming out wrapping up the guy, but for now it seems as if the time is up for today's sketch..

PS - roughly 45mins.

06 June 2004, 05:20 AM
I've posted mine, but am a no0b - so it won't show up for like 12hrs :|

Btw - there are some great sketches today, some great characters indeed..

my fave doodle is vinylequinox's!

06 June 2004, 06:46 AM

06 June 2004, 01:08 PM
Lots of zombies/aliens today ^^)
I hope everybody is having fun, i think that's what this thread should be about :)

Photoshop 6, about 45 minutes

Well, i'm not being original today, here's the train from the light at the end of the tunnel.
Yup I know about the train for the departed in final fantasy 6, although this one is more inspired by the catchphrase:"the light at the end of the tunnel often is from an approaching freight train"

06 June 2004, 05:00 PM
Thanks Garma!

06 June 2004, 08:26 PM
Excellent job everyone!

06 June 2004, 01:18 AM
I really like everyones stuff. Thanks to those who paid me a complement.

I think these threads are gonna make me a cgtalk addict. This is a great excuse to keep people sketching. There are months that go by that I don't sketch a thing.

Keep it up everyone.

06 June 2004, 04:32 PM
Just a quick try at colorizing my previous post.
