Hello everybody. This is Bobo from the side. Next I'll add Bobo's arm and then add some more conceptual sketches to get a better feel for the character.

05-31-2004, 07:44 PM (

Finished Bobo's arm. I'm still working on the design and will probably add and remove detail as I draw some more. This is FUN!

05-31-2004, 10:45 PM (

Bobo from the front. Had some trouble with this one, still trying to get a feel for the character.

06-01-2004, 12:40 AM (

Playing around, trying to decide what colours to use on this guy.

06-01-2004, 01:07 AM
Excellent sketchwork bud, love the style of your character. some really nicely exagerated mechanical parts.

Very alien looking, i like it a lot esspecially the huge arms in your first concept, the disproportionate features are nice.

Perhaps i might suggest that you make the definition between the organic and mechanical parts of the body more definative. Ive sort of had the same problem with my stuff but im working on it.

The whole machine flesh thing is a odd thing to cover as to a certain extent you need just as much flesh visable if not more and yet still show mechanically functioning characteristics. Just a matter of finding a nice mixture of the two.

Keep the updates coming, i look forward to more of your work:thumbsup:

06-01-2004, 10:54 AM
Thanks for the advice, I'll see what I can do.

06-01-2004, 03:53 PM (

Working on the layout for the final illustration. Added three other characters.

You like Capcom stuff? Feels bit like those night warriors.

06-01-2004, 04:33 PM
I grew up on capcom stuff, I'm a big fan 2d fighting games, probably because of all the great characters they contain. Anyway, thanks for the visit.

06-01-2004, 07:35 PM

Sketches of T-Teddy. A mechanical bear designed for combatting evil cybernetic devices. The sidekick of "Antie-Biotieka" (Afrikaans name that doesn't translate well into English).

ilike ur drawings
ilike the robot woman really stylish
good work man
keep going:thumbsup:

06-05-2004, 12:58 AM

I like your drawings a lot. They're pretty solid and have a great artstic sensibility in them. The line of action of your pose is a nice continuous line. It doesn't stop before it gets to the head like a lot of people tend to do (myself included), and the expression on the characters' faces reenforces that line of action making it all strong, alive and appealing.

It would be a SHAME if you have to reduce the sizes of all this appealing characters just so you can fit a big dumb creature/ robot in the same illustration.

please don't do that... Your character work is VERY nice, but it will all be lost, if you place them in a distant / stablishing shot like how you have now.

I suggest you refine your composition. Pick the Machine Flesh characters and make them the main focus of your illustration.

You can still suggest the idea of a confrotation by showing part of the creature/robot facing them. (like for instance, the robot/creature's foot on the foreground, will suggest that something is keeping them from carrying on with their journey), and that should be enough to create a sense of what's going on in the picture.

Also, adding perspective or even simply overlapping planes (having a clear sense of what's in the foreground, middlegroung and background) can make your illustration much more dynamic.

I see potential in this one, that's why I took some time to write all that. Hopefully it will be of some help.

Good luck,

Bruno (

06-05-2004, 11:06 AM
Thanks for the feedback Bruno, I do agree with you on loosing all the detail of my characters by making them small. Originally the whole idea was to make them pretty small, but after my initial concepts scetches I was aching to focus more on them, that's why I drew them bigger. The plan howerver is to keep with the current layout, it would then be easy to adjust the size of the characters acordingly. What I could do in the meanwhile is give a few variations on the layout. Your comments would be greatly appreciated, it already is.:wavey:

Ok, just for you Sketchfiend. Well it doesn't seem like I'll be able to work on my piece for the next 3 days (Hectic crunch mode session at work). That doesn't mean that I wont try, I guess I just have to go without sleep for a while. Once again I would like to thank everyone for their input and good words, you're the best!

Thanks mate, looks awesome!!!, really nice feeling to it, reminds me of the freeze framed action sequences out of japanese anime. The moment just before the final clash....and then cool action poses from each of the characters....hehehe

Anyway im dribbling again:drool: i tend to do that when i see something i like...and ME LIKEY!!.

Thanks again bud, i hope you find the time to continue, just take things as they come, ive had to work on my stuff during my lunch breaks at work and i found that really useful. Where ever you can fit it might find that youre getting more done than you expect. Goodluck i hope to see more soon.
 :D

06-11-2004, 07:42 AM
The other contestants need to watch out - I think we have got a winner here !!!

Great stuff from 0-2 ( like always ) Good luck and may all your days have 25 hours in them till you finish :applause:

06-15-2004, 07:40 AM (

I'm back, damn 3 days to go, SOOOO much to do, time to get a bit freaky with the pace and feel the BURN! First of my fourth and final character, the background, I've realised I haven't realy shown how I work so I'll try to show my process with the background (Just for those who need to know, but I'm sure it will be nothing new for you guys). A yes , the background, if this one fails I'm doomed for sure, anyway I usually start things of in black and white, putting in a mid tone first, then adding shadows and finally higlights... more as I progress

06-15-2004, 09:52 AM (

...anyway, so after I,ve placed my high and lowlights, I add little details, and will keep adding details as more of the image gets done.

06-15-2004, 02:06 PM
very nice work! beautiful lights and shadows, very good colours -the diffrent shades of green, dynamic composition. I like bobo a lot! cheers!:wavey: :bounce:

06-17-2004, 02:14 PM
looking great - i'm getting "my neighbor totoro" dvd next week , so once you have finished the competition and got some sleep , you can come watch it !!!!! but first you have to finish !!!!

06-17-2004, 09:37 PM (

Still on the process of how I work. Now that I have all my detail I want in black and white, colour is added by creating a new layer and applying a colour blending mode to the layer, on which colour is painted.

06-17-2004, 10:57 PM (

...which leaves me with this. I also used layers with a hue blending mode applied to it.

06-18-2004, 12:35 AM (

Started with "Antie Biotieka", still have to colour her as well as T-Teddy, then need to add water and effects.

06-18-2004, 02:14 AM (

Finished adding colour to "Antie", that's it for me for today, next up T-Teddy

06-18-2004, 05:37 AM
Looking great mate, keep it going...i hope we'll both make it. Thanks for your help earlier much appreciated. :D  :wavey:

06-18-2004, 07:21 AM
Wow,Talk about speed...Personally I prefer the lighter background,

This is excelent, the story is getting interesting... keep it coming;) ;)

06-18-2004, 11:53 AM (

Busy applying colour to T-Teddy

06-18-2004, 02:59 PM
:bounce: :applause: This is definetely going to be a tight squeez , but you'll get it done....

good luck... and remeber not to rush things

06-18-2004, 04:35 PM (

still adding colour to T-Teddy...

06-18-2004, 06:11 PM
Glowing Eyes... interesting...

Just one question, in comparison to the other characters, teddy looks a bit fuzzy, is it the resolution or does it look like that on your side?

Good luck anyway, looks like you'll be finished soon at this speed

06-18-2004, 06:57 PM (

Lightened the background a little bit, added a moon glow behind T-Teddy. Busy working on the water.

06-18-2004, 07:13 PM

Dit lyk wonderlik!!!

06-18-2004, 07:22 PM (

Changed the shadow on T-Teddy's face and lightened the surounding trees behind him

06-18-2004, 07:23 PM
