I really love this one too (like your tower). I'm fascinated of these "end of days" works.
your style (hybrid between 2D and 3D) is very special.
nice bug and lighting, pal.

05-21-2004, 05:59 PM

05-25-2004, 02:04 PM
Thank you very much, Spritemare ~!! :)

05-25-2004, 06:49 PM
really cool envoirenment. Did you use photorefs?

05-25-2004, 11:19 PM
Awesome piece you've created. I love all the detail in the destruction, it looks like a disaster area and your robot character fits the role as a city destroyer quite well. I really enjoy the design of it, but it looks a bit clunky in the back though it is not to noticeable. Nice work!

05-26-2004, 03:37 AM
Yes, i used many photorefs
such as city-street photos and signboard photos.

Thank you for your comment~ Bigpet :)

05-26-2004, 04:20 AM
Wow~ thank you very much for your comment and good crit ~ Chobz :)
I like too your great work " Space Scene: Terra & Gaia "

05-26-2004, 05:34 AM

05-26-2004, 06:48 AM

keep it up!

05-26-2004, 08:38 AM
robin, georgeblunt ~ thank you for your comments :)

I really like and love 'ghost in the shell' so much ~!!!
it's a great movie~!!! i am wainting for 'ghost in the shell 2'

05-26-2004, 09:05 AM
what a beautiful street of crazy world`:]
I like it
You made a good scene
but the smoke behind the machine`````is not so good:bowdown:

05-26-2004, 09:40 AM
Good crit ~ i agree with you ;)

Thank you for your comment and crit ~!!! ivanshark :)

06-12-2004, 11:40 PM
Nice lighting. I like how you have framed the robot in the sunlight part of the street. Great piece.

06-13-2004, 07:08 AM
defenetly a great work.i like the miscelleneaus techinque between 3d and 2d...i like the concept ,i like the envoirment ...tho i think that the mech-bug should have different kinda legs....(but obviously this is my opinion)

06-13-2004, 09:22 AM
cloudmover.net , Profane ~ thank you verrrry much for your compliments :)

And i agree with Profane's comment about the legs. :)

06-13-2004, 03:45 PM
Thank you for sharing your working pics with us. Its really a very unique wortking style. And keep up the good work. :D

06-13-2004, 04:00 PM

06-13-2004, 04:13 PM
good stuff. good stuff..
Looking really really good~
Nice set up, great environment.
I have a suggestion as well~
If you put some corpses in the scene or some people freak out and shows a little bit their facial expression, if might have more inpact.

Front page !! Congratulation~

06-13-2004, 04:24 PM

You have good painting skill. :)
I always like things invlove in culture stuff.

06-13-2004, 04:24 PM
Awesome picture!

I like your workflow!

06-13-2004, 04:30 PM

WOW this is awesome work.... Love all the little details.

Thanks for the work in progress too

06-13-2004, 05:16 PM
amazing, great work. The WIP's are really inspiring

06-13-2004, 05:18 PM
This is really nice. I never thought of blocking things in with 3d and then painting over them.

06-13-2004, 05:30 PM
I like the way you worked over the 3d block model. If you hadn't shown the process I would've never thought you did any of it in 3d. One of the strongest pieces I've seen here in awhile.

Good work.

06-13-2004, 05:36 PM
Thanks for sharing your technique... Great light!

06-13-2004, 05:36 PM
Excellent stuff! Reminds me somehow of Ghost-In-The-Shell, but this mechanic is much more frightening. :scream:

And thank you for showing the workflow - very interesting! I always like it when someone shows this, you can always learn from that.

More please!

06-13-2004, 05:37 PM
nice Job
And what is the personal project? a reel or something else?
I want to see it:scream:

06-13-2004, 05:54 PM
awsome man

someone should make a tutorial on how do do stuff like that..

i wish i could do that. its amazing. :D

06-13-2004, 06:42 PM
that's amazing!
very cool Robot!

thanks for the process details.

06-13-2004, 06:57 PM
Glad to see such a nice guy with some really nice work in the frontpage.

Good work, m8!

06-13-2004, 06:57 PM
Nice to meet you here again. Your work is on the front page!!!

My eyes got cought by your works. I've visited your site and loved all of your works especially Kindhearted Giant.

And thanks for sharing the way you work. =))

06-13-2004, 07:11 PM
really awesome piece!

the only thing i found strange is that there are no people (dead or alive whatever). I don't think that all people were able to run away ;)

06-13-2004, 07:13 PM
Wow, amazing piece, the color scheme and setting is dead on.

When I first viewed it on the front page, SNK's "Metal Slug" came to my mind, which believe me is a good thing indeed. Great style.

06-13-2004, 09:14 PM
I'd hate to see the screwdriver that put that thing together!:D

Great job. Nice detail.

06-13-2004, 09:58 PM
Good work,

I like apocaliptic ambient.

06-13-2004, 10:08 PM
this is a really cool piece. I really like the lighting and the compostion. The debris and the signs are awesome. I agree though about maybe having a human here and there, but it's not necessary. Great job and congrats on front page!!!!

Keep it up. Oh yeah, the breakdown is soooo interesting.

_cat :bounce:

06-13-2004, 10:39 PM
wonderful work

06-13-2004, 10:40 PM
Really awesome work, I love how you build on a basic 3D render like that, I'll have to try experimenting with that workflow sometime. Thanks for the inspiration!

06-13-2004, 10:54 PM
very nice @_@ reminds me of ghost in the shell

Michael Chen
06-13-2004, 11:10 PM

Dream inducing concepts, unique artisic approach, beautiful artistic talent. Like a nice cool glass of water on a steamy hot day, when nothing else will do.

06-14-2004, 03:28 AM
This image is awesome:eek:
Not much to crit, but a lot of paise is heading towards your direction:bowdown:

Btw, your name, or nick at least, means "Pretty men" in Norwegian, which sounds a bit um.. suspicous lol. :scream:

Again, great skills:bowdown:

06-14-2004, 03:41 AM
THis isthe second time I've seen the 3d blocking technique used to make a scene, and darnit, I'm getting addicted to it and I might end up doing it too o-O

VERY awesome work altho some of the lights seem strange (left side of robo, i think its hidden by shadow but it has lights on it? ) mm ok im just bieng nit picky - i like (:

06-14-2004, 04:21 AM
Beautiful work. It reminds me of Ghost In the Shell. I enjoy the light passing through the building from the left side. Also the mech seems to have life and expression.

06-14-2004, 05:29 AM
:applause: congradulations Pene Menn you've just got my 500'th post!! jump for joy!

:wip: on the other hand excellent work dude, and :surprised :scream: freaky cool style of painting, not 3d almost 2d and truly 5D....

5 stars for the peace, because I like what you did so much.

06-14-2004, 05:29 AM
Really nice, the workflow idea of starting with basic shapes is great.

More more more!:bounce:

Very nice, indeed! It definately reminds you of a cross between Tachikoma's and the Tank in the museum in GITS.
So did you use 3D max just to block the whole thing out and then paint on top of that?

06-14-2004, 09:55 AM
Great Work Penneman! I looked at your site and I love the setup with the thumbnails, the counters, and the ability to discuss. did you program all that PHP interaction yourself?

06-14-2004, 10:19 AM

You blocked out your work in 3d blocks, progressively adding more detail is this how you do all of your work?
I am working on my 2d skills and am trying this technique as well,do you have any pointers?

06-14-2004, 05:40 PM

Thank you verrrry much all ~

Ranc0r ~ yes, this work flow is very simple.
