the first concepts for the "Waste Worm Willie". A larva blown up a couple of sizes, attached to mechanical legs and an artificial nervous system witch allows it to be controlled from a distance. It´s simply a living garbage truck with a super appetite!

05 May 2004, 02:45 AM (

concept of the mechanical parts..

05 May 2004, 02:45 AM (

...the body attached to the legs.

05 May 2004, 02:45 AM (

The public was disgusted when Waste Worm Willie was put into service. The worms (larvas) patrolled the streets and ate everything it´s AI considered to be garbage. When the manufacturers got the negativ reactions from the public they started a massive pr-campaign that would help the worms to be more accepted as public servants. Of course it didn´t take long before the worms had to be moved to industrial areas and other secluded places.

I worked like an animal last night... Need some feedback please

05 May 2004, 02:45 AM (

first coloring

05 May 2004, 02:45 AM (

still a little grey and lifeless

05 May 2004, 02:45 AM (

a couple of hours later the colors started to emerge. Would like some comments before I proceed.

<br>I did put a billboard in the back but as you said, the logo needs a lot of work. The problem is I don´t know how to make it cute without overdoing it.

05 May 2004, 02:45 AM (

here´s a more transparent version...

05 May 2004, 02:45 AM (

A little more transparent and a small implant near the "head". The implant works as a conection between the radio receiver and the artificial nervous system.

05 May 2004, 05:59 AM
I really like your painting and concept. Especially I like the legs.
My personal opinion, the black head seem to be little empty compare to all the other elements in your painting. Sutle reflection or LED showing from inside maight help.
Anyway I just want to say my opinion because this forum is all about that.

Nice work:bowdown:

05 May 2004, 10:14 AM
I 'm really surprise that there is no more replies...
You have made a great work!!
Keep this way!

05 May 2004, 10:28 AM
Thanks to the nice hackers all my replies has been erased!
But now I´m back in business baby

05 May 2004, 01:08 PM
Wow, really awesome work... you have a great style and I love the mood of this concept.

I am constantly amazed by the level of talent exhibited on this forum... I am humbled to compete among such awesome artists. Very inspiring. Keep it up! :buttrock:

Here's my machineflesh thread if you're interested:

Good luck in the contest!

Hey... it's good to see your work back up!! Those darned hackers need to get themselves a more productive hobby...

Didn't spot that billboard when i fisrt looked!! Nice and integrated into the composition... is it going to be spotlit and a little bit more colourful than it's surroundings when you get the image done...?

The image is coming on really well!! The textures of the different surfaces are really developing with each update...

nice one...

05 May 2004, 01:04 PM
Nice work!
Cool style, good choice of colors too!
The transparancy works really nice!
I'ts hard to tell how big it is though, maybe some object near the worm as reference would do it? something with familiar measures!

05 May 2004, 01:07 PM
Truely sickening, i love it. Im sorry i havent seen your image before, i love those mechaincal hooks at the bottom of the head. The worm thing reminds me of the HUGE! grubs we have here in australia, they live in tree bark in the bush, and supposedly (i havent done it myself) but you can eat them, its meant to be some sort of a survival thing if you ever get stuck out there...
But after seeing your image im sure it would be enough for anyone whos ever eaten one feel queasy. Great stuff:thumbsup: :D

The more transparrent flesh makes it look much more jelly like and softer, a lot more realistic. One thing that im having trouble with is the scale of the creature, alot of the buildings and other stuff is off in the background but there doesnt seem to be anything noticable to compare it to, just a thought.:D

05 May 2004, 08:29 AM (

added two maintenance guys but they kind of look like tourists...

05 May 2004, 08:35 AM
cool! it´s weird! it´s strange! it looks convincent! I like it!

keep em coming!

cheers! :scream:

05 May 2004, 12:58 PM
great concept and stuff! i like the idea!

maybe get rid of the huge eye and do it like the brain bug from starship troopers.

found no better image, sorry.

05 May 2004, 01:17 PM
actually it´s not an eye, its´the head. The eyes are there somewhere, maybe I should make them more visible?

05 May 2004, 05:44 PM
This is a great pic!!! Wish I had come across this post awhile ago.

You are right about the maintenance guys... they dont seem like they are workers or maintaining anything, more like they are browsing. Maybe if they had some visible tools or something?

About the head, it does look like one big eye right now and not so much like a head, BUT I like it better as a big eye. Gives it more of an alien / insectile feel to the worm. I say keep it how it is. KOH suggested having a subtle reflection or LED lights on the surface, which I think would look good.

Keep up the good work man, :bounce: Im lovin' how this picture is evolving. I'll be subscribing to this thread.

05 May 2004, 06:44 PM
Nice work! skitsnyggt

Get some wires between the maintenanceguys and the bug.

Or at least some kind of connection otherwise they WILL look like tourists. Albeit nicelooking ones :)

05 May 2004, 10:35 AM (

I have two problems, the "tourists" and a head that looks like an eye. Gonna deal with the head first..

05 May 2004, 12:44 PM
Hoho!!! It's a very good work man ! I like it!
Keep up!

05 May 2004, 04:06 PM
It's Ugly ! Baaaah ! I like it !

How did you guy go down such a track.
It's a thing of it's own kind.

Please don't make it look like Star ship trooper's brain bug.
Don't make it look like anything we've seen before.
Just make it look like what it is : something we've never seen before.

Keep up the good work.

05 May 2004, 07:24 PM
really cool work!

No way it´s gonna be a Star Ship Trooper´s brain bug, why do something that´s already been done? That´s the whole point of this make something original.
( even though I love Star Ship Troopers )

05 May 2004, 11:48 PM
Loved the Free waste Worm Willie campaign....interesting concept...

I really like your latest WIP stuff and look forward to seeing the finished article.

I think you are right in that the workmen look like tourists, but they do add to the sense of scale.

Great detail-must have taken a while to get to this stage...

06 June 2004, 02:54 PM (

Moved the "tourists" a.k.a Maintenance guys closer to Willie. They dont seem to work that hard though...
( Note to future generations: Beware! Maintenance guys of tomorrow are lazy! )

06 June 2004, 06:17 PM
yep still one of my favourites, I love those eye variations you did, seem to have missed that before

06 June 2004, 07:16 PM
brrrrrrrrrrr..........but I like that, it's a good vision. Great texture on the worm..I like how machine is implanted......

Beautiful tones, great atmosphere,
and weird, awesome concept!!!

06 June 2004, 04:42 AM
Beautiful colours, I love the detail, lighting, mood, subject matter, and overall unity in your piece. My mouth is watering with anticipation my friend.

06 June 2004, 05:31 AM
The iridescence on the surface of the creature is very nice - I actually really liked the eye in the bottom left of the 4 pictures! It makes it look somehow sympathetic rather than just alien. Love the green ichor!

Maybe you should put both hands of the right guy up into the air, or maybe there should be some kind of hatch open with worm's internal details available for them to "maintain" ?

06 June 2004, 10:31 AM
Wow, didn't see your work sooner, that 's a very good job, and a great and original idea !
I love the colors too

06 June 2004, 02:46 PM
Disgustingly nice ! I just love it ! The brillance on the flesh is terrible !

06 June 2004, 09:29 PM
truly , so , Meshuggah , great job !

only you sort of finished that pic in a day ... not counting the
two people ... and it was poster like.

it's like you need not put so much time in your pics unless you
really , I mean Really get into details , yes ?

excellent work , dude !

(except I saw the worm as way bigger ... those dudes would be
the size of their boots as I saw it )

06 June 2004, 08:05 AM (

 A fine piece of work Meshuggah....really worth waiting for...

Glad to see you managed to intergrate the two guys in space suits so they are more part of the scene. And the worm doesn't look like it has a big eye of the best...amazing work...

Good luck in the next stage and see you in the next challenge :applause: :applause:

06 June 2004, 10:04 AM

My challenge:

07 July 2004, 11:17 PM
He's SOOO CUTE!!! We need to start implementing him soon, you know? GREAT idea, and what a wonderful image. You did a great job illustrating your concept, everything from the use of the men in the suits to the toxic green atmosphere to the buildings in the back. Great Work, and Good luck!:applause:

07 July 2004, 07:40 PM
good Job , sorry i dont know how to read ur name, anyway

I liked the way u Built the Structure of this worm seems ur work come from a deep understanding to nature and mashines and Specially the LINK ..
but the final worm is more to a robot than a worm , i would prefer that u stick to the worm in the 1st sketch , it really Gives a perfect feeling ..

Good Luck
