View Full Version : Dotted outline

Anyone know how to make a box that is outlined in dots?
I know you can stroke a box selection to make a rectangle, but how do you make the outline dotted?

No, like a dotted outline. (a single row of dots, evenly spaced)

. .

I 'could' do it with '.', but then i need to do the sides also. And ideally i want to do it with rounded corners, so i don' t want to hand place dots.

The quick and dirty way to do this is:

select the shape tool, set it to rounded rectangle and create your shape as a path (not a layer). Select the brush tool, make sure it is a hard round brush and set the spacing to 200-300%. In the paths palette select the path and click the arrow on the top right and select "stroke path" from the menu. You will need to play with your spacing settings on the brush tool to get it to line up.

The proper way to do this:

Use Illustrator, create a rounded rectangle and you can control the outline, spaces, dots or dashes with a great deal more precision in the stroke palette.
