Hi guys. I wrote this tutorial on Image Based Lighting for 3ds Max using the HDRdomelight script. Just thought I'd share.

Yeah thanks. Nice and clean little tutorial with screenshots that you don't have to study upclose to see the difference!
The link to the dome-light doesn't seem to work though.

Not sure whether it's functionally equivalent or not,
but it seems to be.

Well that one works with 3 4 and 5, but not 6?

I now use it with 6, and it seems to work.
And since it's a script anyway, we can tweak it if it doesn't.

well the script does work! "yay" but its as confusing as.....confusing things.

I would like a tutorial on it, as it seems to work better without a bitmap loaded (but then its not matching light, its making it up)

I like the tutorial for the HDRdome light

Is there one out there for E-light?

hey its working!!!

but its pretty confusing for a fairly new to 3d guy like myself.

theres a few things I dont understand about using e-light.

Is there no tutorial for it?

Its the hows and whys thats getting me, for example, I have no idea what sequence is, or why use dome, or anything.

I like the tutorail for HDRdome, but I cant find the plugin anywhere!!!

any help on either of these?

1) Depends what wires you are talking about (viewport? final renders?). If you're talking about final renders, it depends which method you use to render the wireframe.

2) There have been plenty of threads about rendering wireframes. Look down about two or three pages in the main 3dsmax forum.

hi, im new here and i just downloaded the HDRI.bmi; i was wondering where do i place hdri.bmi in the max 6 folders.

Well, this tutorial isn't an HDRI tutorial. It uses LDRI images. But I might write an HDRI tutorial in a couple of months.

Did you ever get around to writing that tut? :)

I am looking to use IBL, but I am wondering how to use it in conjunction w/VRay, or substitute of the dome plug-in.

Any ideas?

Well, I really have never used Vray. I only use standard Max scanline rendering. The only time I ever use a different renderer is when I use Mental Ray for Sub Surface Scattering.

I bascially just slap an HDRI image into the Skylight Map slot in 3ds max. Then render with lighttracer active.
