A really rough concept. I have this weird idea of mixing Hindu Methology with technology. It could be cool. My take on legendary Hanuman (One of famous Hindu Monkey God) and turn him into half Demi-God and Machine. In the pic he is in the Azura(Demons) world/city (called LongKra), which I attempt to turn it into a Giant living machine, trying to save Sita(Princess). She is attach to the huge living machine as shown.
04 April 2004, 05:48 AM
Little bit more flesh out...so I get the idea what the Beast would look like...an hour a day.
04 April 2004, 06:08 AM
that looks kind of cool. i wonder what kind of lighting your going to have, because it looks really busy? what ever it is i hope will make the characters that stand out good and not be drowned in details.
04 April 2004, 07:16 AM
Finding the over all base color/saturation...then I will start working on value/lighting. I usually don't start out like this, but I just want to try experimenting something.
04 April 2004, 07:20 AM
good work xia , the color coming nicely , im waiting for the next step !
04 April 2004, 07:20 AM
Vaig>>Thanks...I can't wait to see yours either ;) . Lots of familiar faces here.
spec44>> I am concerning about that too, we'll see how it will turn out.
04 April 2004, 04:12 PM
04 April 2004, 04:16 PM
couple more hours....
04 April 2004, 06:02 PM
Hey XIA youre damn fast!
But i have seen your baboon over at sijun boards with no mechanical arms or whatever. So are you double posting or converting old picture to machine flesh theme?
Like your work. Try to explain that sijun happening.
04 April 2004, 07:27 PM
Falcor>> Thanks...Yes, I do post at Sijun Speedpaint. It was create afer my buddy told me about the contest...I sorta like the composition on the Speedpaint so I decide to take it further just to enter the contest. Plus, I was trying to Create Hanuman on my free time anyway to match this with the oldie finished one that I did of "Kali": Link Below
THIS image IS NOT in anyway related to THE CONTEST
See the similarity in the theme?
And I barely ever finish any finished painting ....so I kinda want one more finish piece in my wallet. Well...or I could finish up the Shark one?
....or I might make up some new one other than this moongkie depends on the outcome of the overall composition....I still donno yet. But hopefully I could finish somethin...
04 April 2004, 07:51 PM
Main reason of the interest was that hopefully doing that is not against the competition rules, maybe somebody forum moderator might now the answer for that.
That Kali picture is good. Thanx for showing it to me.
You atleast did that baboon picture when the competition had already begun. Right?
I know that baboon piece will be awesome when you finish it up.:) Hopefully im not confusing you too much and preventing you from working hard :wip:
04 April 2004, 08:00 PM
Falcor>>Thanks...all those latest speedy of creatures/cyborg are actually created to enter this arena nonetheless, and I picked the Baboon color/comp. But we never know...I might change my mind again....for the final piece. I hope I made myself clear... Thanks  :bounce:
04 April 2004, 04:10 PM
Define lighting and color a bit more on the shoulder/arm.
04 April 2004, 06:21 PM
That arm is cool! I love the colors!:applause:
04 April 2004, 06:44 AM
Couple more hours...half way thru first pass underpainting. I tweaked the composition a little...the top right arm now has somewhat a real purpose of being there.
adrixwha>> Thanks buddy.
04 April 2004, 06:56 AM
Beautifull work you are doing Xia !!!
I love it !
04 April 2004, 09:14 AM
Good idea, this. :)
I'd move Hanuman's eyes a little bit forward- and-down, keeping in mind the angle of the mouth which seems to be a little more front-on than the remainder of the face. Currently, they look a little uneasily perched atop the snout.
04 April 2004, 05:46 PM
harnelbe>> Thanks man...hopefully I can work on it some more today. :bounce:
Culann>> Thanks...I'll see what I can do.
04 April 2004, 12:36 AM
Refining the female body/face a bit more. I think I've gone a bit too far on the face, it supposed to be rough just to get the overall lighting.
04 April 2004, 12:56 AM
I love this piece. To me, it looks as if the human in the machine and the baboon-man are having some sort of argument (though moreso when the baboon was pointing up in the air)- whether it will degenerate into violence is unsure.
I love the coloring, and I don't know if you intend to do this already, but I would try to make the metal in the upper left corner equally bright as the arm in the lower right. I don't know if you were just going to have the arm gold, but if it's the only bright thing in the picture, I find my eye just gets dragged to that corner and rests there.
Overall, it's fantastic.
04 April 2004, 12:58 AM
Don't stop the refining !!!
i would like all your C.G. get the level of details of the Woman face !!!!

Not at all, gives an impression of really cool things to come. :applause:

You may not have gone too far on the woman's face, but I think you could stand to benefit from taking a longer look at the wolf-man's face a bit.
I like the way this image is shaping up but I'd hate to see it progress so far as to make it difficult to fix the following complaint I have about it: the wolf's jaw doesn't seem to line up with the rest of his head. I don't know how to describe it beyond that very well so I drew over it and provided a series of images to demonstrate what I mean.
The teeth seem to indicate a certain jaw angle but the rest of the head is offset from that angle by quite a lot. Also, the tongue does the same thing. I hope my draw-overs help exemplify what I mean. It would look a lot better, I think, if you'd solve those perspective problems before progressing too much further into this otherwise excellent image.

The develapment of your work is very good, all the cenary is nicely put together, nice work.
04 April 2004, 04:46 PM
Flatuloso>> Thanks buddy! I agree on the impression of the two...so I am planing to tone down the expression of the Baboon since I have to tweak the head anyway. :) And as for the metal...I intend to make most the the baboon mech part gold...to maintain somewhat traditional Hanuman decoration. Though I will have to simplify the overall pic and tone down the saturation of the blue and his left arm. We'll see if I could get what I really envision.
harnelbe & flyingP>> Thanks...I am afriad I will have to tone her down and changes things here and there along with the rest of the pic in the simpligying stage. :bounce:
Russell_Collins>> I really appreciate what you did a lot! Thanks man for taking your time and explaining/illustrating. I was trying to figure out how to fix him over the weekend but it was not as effective as your method. I own you one, thanks a lot. And I will try to pull this off as good as I can do...this will be my third attempt to finish a finished illustration...wish me luck.
grafik>> Thanks man, on this one...it's kinda strange...I already have a finish pic in my head even before I started. For me this doesn't come by often. I usually have to sketch out many many many things just to get the idea/composition. I don't know yet if this one is going to be a final submission, but I will finish it.
04 April 2004, 04:52 PM
Is it a MerMaidMech or MechMerMaid...I will call it MMM
A fairly loose doodle...
Some more doodle idea I did while taking a break off of my other painting.
I will go back and finish the other one sometime soon...but I need to freshen up my eyes in order to do it effectively so. Thanks for all the comment and critique guys
04 April 2004, 05:23 PM
oh man xia oh man. I can already see a flurry of excuses why you didnt finish up your hanuman baboon :p
Kinda cool sketch, but nowhere as dynamic as multiple arm baboon. Stay focused
Remember finished up one is always better for ego. You can do dozens of unfinished ones, but you know which ones really matter now dont you?
Finalizing piece is so hard. Thats why Xia. Most of my work are unfinished ones hehehee. :applause: Dont fall into same trap as i have.
04 April 2004, 08:38 PM
Falcor>> Thanks buddy! I will finish it, no worry. I just need to take my eyes off of it for a while (a few days or a week)...then when I go back I can see more of what I should fix and change with fresh eyes hopefully. My bad habit is that I tend to rush things and finish it up too quick...I learn and I am still trying to find the method that is most efficient for me in painting and all. Thanks again buddy! and u too keep up the good work.
And thanks again guys for all the feedback...they are really valuable to me. And hopefully, I won't mess it up to disappoint u guys.
04 April 2004, 03:32 PM
Just couldn't resist to try out some color on her a lil bit last night...but I will go back to finish the original one real soon.
Little Mermaid in the icy icy world.
04 April 2004, 10:16 PM
i love the concept. really inventive, the harpoon on the one arm is great! just what a mermaid would need!
04 April 2004, 08:17 AM
You have taken my idea with that mermaid... that's exactly what I'm doing (but not posting progress images here). The only luck is that I'm doing it 3D ;)
Anyway: great job you've done. And I like best that woman/werewolf image. It's great :buttrock:
Good Luck :wavey:
04 April 2004, 09:11 AM
very nice
04 April 2004, 08:45 PM
Simplify and clean up the image little by little. I usually go from the bottom and around the edge toward to middle. I also tryig to find things to fix at this point, for instance, the Baboon head. It's really hard to make the head look like Baboon since Baboon head look very similar to Dog or Wolf head. This is a time consuming thing for me really...I am really messy painter.
The Mighty_M>> Thanks buddy, yes...she need them to fight Shark or CyberShark. LOL
Jakub Sporek>> Thanks, yeah I think lots of people has similar idea...I've seen some mermaid or merman on this board too, I am not sure though. and yes he's back and I will finish it.
MOA(F2D)>> Thanks buddy.
04 April 2004, 05:04 PM
Simplifying and clean up the mess on the rough image. I am working from outside toward center of interest. Half way there. The Baboon is still a mess...hopefully I can work on it some more this weekend.
04 April 2004, 07:10 PM
Wow! GREAT WORK!
The atmosphere it's sensational!
The woman's face is perfect!:arteest:
I'll keep the eye on your work:eek:
Thanks man! it's coming along. Hopefully it will be good.
05 May 2004, 06:31 PM

05 May 2004, 10:45 AM
Impressive work:buttrock: Another killer in the place.
05 May 2004, 07:55 PM
wow it is very very very nice :applause:
i love ur works man
05 May 2004, 08:33 PM
AMAZING. great job!!!
05 May 2004, 10:25 AM
Damnit how did I miss your work man !!!!
This is a great fantasy piece, it's comming very nicly, you are one of the best in the contest !
Make attention to the eye of the beast ! it doesn't look very pissed off :)
Almost done with clean up the image. Little bit at the time...then I can readjust lighting, final fix, bring in, push out and another round of simplify.
And maybe I could put some texture in...we'll see.
Thanks for all the comment guys...I will reply to you all...but have to go now.
Alright...I'm back. Slam with work all day...donno when am I goingt to be able to update. Maybe after E3, too many models to make and too many textures...
Thanks guys for all the comment.
Vaig>> Thanks buddy, yours is coming along really great, I can't wait for the next update.
trantsiss>> Thanks, never kill anyone yet...I am just a rookie. :bounce:
Xoveky>>Thank you sir! I really appreciate it.
londero>> Thanks, hopefully it will turn out the way I want it to be.
bonestudio>> Thanks, I am flatter. I love your idea and design...can't wait for the next update. IT will be great!!!!!
05 May 2004, 06:04 PM
all the hard work is really paying off, you have found away to show a lot of detail without drowning the eye out and maintianing focus on the whole peice. it's looking really good so far.
