I have completed a bicycle by the fence scene. Pl comment for me to improve. Thanks in advance. 8)


I also added the link to the previous picture of the scene. Someone has commented on the ground texture so I have changed it to grassland.

The bicycle is floating in air... by the way.

Well I think It's because the image quality is very poor. Try making it bigger and improving the quality. model looks pretty good but colors and textures seems too need some work.

The color of the grass is a bit too saturated. The image will improve a lot when you desaturate it ;)

Thanks all for the comments.

To lowdown - I noticed that too. I tried playing with the mapping co-ordinate of each piece, obviously it's not enough. Will improve on that. I am tempted to map a stone wall to make it more photo realistic.

To metre - It is actually meant to be a simple scene. It is a derivative off the bicycle model that I am currently working on. But thanks anyway. :)

To buzzbomb - u are right. Will do that. Thanks.

To DShadow - The attachment only allow 20kb. How do u attach the pic directly on the post itself?

Your fence texture is repeating. The black of the bike tire is too black, it doesn't seem to have any value across its form. The bike's frame is pretty irregular. Usually the handle bars aren't thicker than the major diagonal in the frame. I don't know about the mud guards, and the spoke in the bike tires don't look properly spaced. You need some diffuse maps in your texture or a different lighting setup because it seems to be lit from everywhere evenly, almost as if it was a simple hardware render or something. The scale of the textures on the ground is rather confusing. The shape of the ground is flat but the texture makes me think of boulders or a mountain side. There's a lot more subtle things about bikes, textures, and light that you need to observe before you call it done. I realize it's a work in progress so all I can say is that it's a good start, keep on going man.

Hi polycowboy - I am working on the spoke last nite - redoing it competely.

As for the lighting, u are right. It is just a two points (main & fill) lighting that covered the whole area 'cos I did not use GI.

The tyre itself does not have any thread - will work on that too. Likewise for the handle and the ground.

As for the fence, I do occasionally see some perfection in real life like the repeating of fence wood or the cleanliness of the floor, but for cg, the general idea is to make it imperfect? However, I will work on this too as I also received the same comments from my cg friends. Strangely, most of my non-cg friends did not comment on this. They mostly commented on the lighting and the ground.

Overall, it should still be a W.I.P - sorry about that. But thanks for the comments - it really helps alot. Will spend the next few nite doing on these details. :)

Your image fails because it lacks the basic composition elements. Your focal point which is the bycicle is cropped and is dead centered. You might want to start learning more about basic composition, you know, leading lines, focal points, rule of thirds, all sorts of stuff that will enhance your work, 2D or 3D.

3D wise, I can't give any c&c on your second image because I can't see it clearly... take out that photoshop effect if you want a critique on your 3D piece.

Make some minor changes : flatten the tyres, removed the long grass, change some of the rusts. For further comments & crits.

I'd say re-inflate one of the tires, make a better tire texture, and change the fence texture on that spotty black and white fence piece

A lot of stuff is looking better, and wet paint for the fence is not necessarily bad, but you shouldnt have a green fence along with green grass. It looks wrong. Choose a color to complement the green grass. The fence also looks close to a solid color. Try to add a subtle fence texture, or perhaps a bumpmap to it.
