Wow!... thats... great! The composition of the piece is wounderful, the sky is extremely amazing... It looks 3d! I originally thought you were an insane modeller/texturer/mapper(or I'm blind, take your pick really  ) The colors are very nice... no real crits on this... Wounderful!!! I'm not quite for the giraffe's(?) uh.. horn... things (sorry, not at my best right now, heh) the lighting is a tad too bright, none of the objects around have that kind of 'glow' to that degree... that might just be me, or my monitor, though! Im not sure about this part, but shouldnt the... horn... things :hmm: be in shadow, observing the direction of the sunlight and sky... and the fact most of the rest of the giraffe(?) is in shadow, just kind of... pops out with the brightness.... anyways ::sets up shrine::! Adios!

It's very good. But that dragon in the clouds looks really terrible. I think it really distracts from the piece. The rest has a stylized realistic look to it and that dragon looks more like a cartoon. I'd say keep working on that dragon or else nix it entirely. I think it would be much better without it entirely. Very excellent use of color, I really love the graphic look of it overall.

Perhaps I should read your post and not just look at the image next time. Heh. Or maybe you added that after my post. Anyhow, it's good to hear that the dragon wasn't final. But in the future I would suggest just leaving out anything that isn't finished if it's for a contest. If there is something that you had to hury on and it compromises the piece, just leave it out as long as the work functions without that piece, because it's better to be missing something that only you know about than to have something that draws attention to itself.

Woooooow.. absolute AWSOME DUDE!!!!
Cant belive my eyes.....

Excellent skill, really nice! especially the smoking atmosphere.....great job!

04-17-2004, 01:43 AM
I see, based on the other competition entries, that you started with some images, like the man and girafe, which are identical like by the other competitors, and you most probably composited it in.
I was thinking you painted it. A bit flat, sunflowers like foreign objects in the scene (shading doesn't fit with general light distribution). The fog in the far looks kinda fake, but the road is the best part of your image. The plants need more work.
Not bad.

04-17-2004, 02:44 AM
i agree with whiterabbit; the giraffe/dragon thingie in the clouds isn't very well done. it's mouth placement really bugs me, and overall it takes away from the scene. i look at the amazing detail on the plants, and the crisp shadows behind the man, but then this cloud dragon thing just takes all the attention away from them. fix it or nix it. i say nix it.

04-17-2004, 02:49 AM
wow , such a warm painting  , very nice work:applause:

04-17-2004, 03:12 AM
Nice piece. Good luck with the popphoto competition. I think you could work the clouds a bit more though.

04-17-2004, 03:14 AM
Oh holy cow, there's a giraffe in there too... yeah that is not integrated well at all, like nineinchneil said. It looks to me like you're trying to put too much into the piece. For the title, "daydream", it fits to have lots of stuff because your mind wanders and who knows what might pop into it. But as a piece I think it works better understated with less "stuff".

04-17-2004, 03:19 AM
OMG!! I actually thought this was a 3d piece until I saw you only used Photoshop 7. Absolutely outstanding work and I hope you win the contest :)

...the dragon in the sky bothers me a bit it doesn't seem to fit in there

04-17-2004, 03:22 AM
I had to put atleast 4 images from the 12 that popphoto.com provided. The 4 used are the road, the sun flower, the giraffe, and the man. I tried to make everything work as best as I could.

This is great! You got good skills and patience! Congrats, hope you win the contest...

04-17-2004, 04:51 AM
Great work, I absolutely love the lighting :)

04-17-2004, 05:03 AM
very impressive work man.....

04-17-2004, 07:44 AM
Excellent work.

I'd be surprised if you don't win the contest. No offense to the other artists...but to me, the other entries are far more simplistic, and a bit devoid of visual satisfaction in comparison.

Your work is very creative.

I read your making-of notes; it was very interesting to see everything you did.

04-17-2004, 10:25 AM
very "big fish" :D :applause: :applause: :applause:

Crazzy Legs
04-17-2004, 10:43 AM
I'm about to ask for a lot.

If you give the man a pair of shorts and a marroon shirt, he'll look like Peter Jackson from all of his interviews.
I liked the movement you create with the trail/body of the dragon that leads to the head of the dragon.

04-17-2004, 10:49 AM
IMPRESSIVE!!

:buttrock: :buttrock: :buttrock:

04-17-2004, 11:19 AM
my honest advise would be to remove the dragon and the giraffe entirely.

this is such a wondeful piece, enormous potential in there, but those two things just kind of spoilt it a little for me. the giraffe looks "pasted" in if you know what i mean, and also, i don't really approve of the glowing horns. the dragon looks ok technically, but the mouth is weird.

don't get me wrong, this is an amazing piece of work, but imho you could top it if you remove those 2 things. :)

04-17-2004, 12:02 PM
Awsome work man:applause:

04-17-2004, 03:06 PM
i dont know why but that guy standing there reminds me of Peter Jackson ___?___

04-17-2004, 04:21 PM
Incredible work. I'm very amateur with stuff like this. Did you use a wacom tablet to make this image?

04-17-2004, 04:31 PM
beautiful piece, love the lighting:applause:

04-17-2004, 04:34 PM

04-17-2004, 04:51 PM
actullay ther giraffe and the dragon does give it a dreamy feel but the dragon could be more cloudier too blend w/ the clouds more. nice work
btw how many layers did you use?

04-17-2004, 08:01 PM
I actually didn't even see the dragon in the clouds until I read that you're going to remove it. My eye went immediately to the lower half of the painting because it's the powerful focal point. It was a nice surprise to see the dragon in the clouds, and I definitely don't think it looks bad. I also like the creature in the sunflowers. It truly makes it seem either like a daydream of someone with a fantastic imagination or a simple daydream in a fantastic land. Either way, I think all of the elements work for me.

Good stuff.

04-17-2004, 09:21 PM
really clever! Nice work m8!

04-17-2004, 09:27 PM
Hooooooooly crap that's amazing. The reaction I have to this picture us something that I don't think words are equipped to handle. Like most of the other people, however, I think it could do without the dragon.

 :buttrock:

04-17-2004, 09:47 PM

The sharp contrast and the colours are the best!

04-17-2004, 10:31 PM
So nice...

I'd have preferred less "fog" on the sunflowers, I mean they go tall, but the fog should have started at a much higher altitude. That's the only thing I can say, this is a superb work!!

04-18-2004, 02:23 AM
yeah.. the dragons not needed... nice work... keep it up

04-18-2004, 04:28 AM
The giraffe looks okay to me. Didn't notice it for a while. Won't miss the dragon though. Great atmosphere. It gave me a good feeling. This has aspects of my daydreams when looking at the sprouts in my garden.

04-18-2004, 05:30 AM
Beautiful piece.

Btw, that fella reminded me of Peter Jackson as soon as i saw him too, heh.

04-18-2004, 05:35 AM
Oh and i just looked at the other finalist's entries. I must say, if u don't win, the comp is rigged ;)

The submission by Karen Grubb is a joke.

04-18-2004, 05:37 AM
That is a really beautiful painting, one I´d love to have on my livingroom wall.

04-18-2004, 08:08 AM
WOW Very good, the plants look as if they are 3D, I can't believe that's photoshop. Amazing Work!

04-18-2004, 09:44 AM
sweet. great vibe.

04-18-2004, 11:14 AM
....... Speachless....... Thats too
great for words!!

04-18-2004, 11:44 AM
Well, first thing, this is gorgeous. Second, this is gorgeous.
Now, on to the critique. The character doesn't fit the scene. If that's intentional, it shouldn't be. You just don't want to do that. Even if this is a dream, he's inside the dream and thus should show that.
The deer/dragon would work but once again, it's as it was drawn by someone else. Also, the design for the deer is kinda goofy.

The sunflowers though...god those are something.

The interesting part is that there's no middle ground in this picture. Possibly, that would make it look even better. Or...it might hurt the piece.

04-18-2004, 01:54 PM
Great job!

04-18-2004, 02:58 PM
i love it, evil kitty anyone?

04-19-2004, 05:19 AM
very cool picture, but I'd also remove the dragon and also the deer. They look disturbing.

Nice warm mood.

04-19-2004, 11:22 AM
Terrific job! :buttrock:

04-19-2004, 04:05 PM
And that it's not even 3D, man, you're artistic... That you can do this.... No words for it! :p Just awesome work to be very proud of! [espessially the clouds; WOW!]

04-19-2004, 04:37 PM
good job man ¡

04-19-2004, 06:09 PM
Wow..the colours are really beautiful. I love those sunflowers..just curious. Why is the giraffe inside the illustration??

I can't believe this is photo editing!!! Ok, with a lot of retouch, but still !!! Do you have a tutorial of this??

04-29-2004, 05:41 PM
Great Work,
I like the way you used perspective to make the Sunflowers look all Jack and the Beanstalk like... its really cool, the cloud giraffe thing is cool too. one crit though, the shrubs in the foreground seem really lo-res and streaky, maybe it's just me.
Overall though It's pretty Sweet

05-03-2004, 01:49 PM
good!it is best

OMG
It is sooo beautiful!! :buttrock:

Wonderful piece. I could see you doing illustrations for children's books... Very colorful and imaginative. It's also a playful composition in that you have to search for the details (IE: mythical giraffe creature). Check out Bev Doolittle when you get the chance... she likes to "hide" things in her work as well.

06-28-2004, 10:49 PM
