I'm going to be posting my concepts for you all to play with. There'll be a wide range of characters some toon and some not. I'll try and get some orthos up over the weekend but for now, it'll just be the initial ideas.
May as well start with some stuff I don't have to scan in....These two are ideas I had started in 3D but never had the time to finish. Now it's your turn. :)
Lucky - The hopless romantic and total geek. He'd be a real ladies man if he could ever figure out how the guys in "Weird Science" made one.
Little Purple Dude - he's lost and can't find his way.

Great stuff Teyon,
My pics are the black mage and the last guy you posted with the mace. I think it would be sweet if the black mage was modeled along with his magic in his hand that would look cool when made into a sculpture if done right.
So do you have any orthos of either one of those. Thanks.

I didn't get to draw anything last night, got home and was so pooped I just went to sleep. I'm up now though and ready to start the orthos and add a few more concepts for you all too. So, would you want just regular orthos or should I create orhtos of the poses they are in?

I decided to make the scales on his skirt thingie more prominent so it would show up when milled but if you want to leave them out, that's okay. Also, if you want to change the buttons to buckles, that's fine too.
I'll be back with a front shot in a bit and some detailing of the mace.

Thanks. The tail probably won't depending on it's thickness and if we have it attached to some kind of base...I couldn't think of a pose for this guy so that would be left up to the modeler and it would be easy to place a rock face or something against the tail to keep it from breaking. But maybe I'm wrong?
The spikes on his head may snap though...optional pieces then. :) A spikeless lizard dude is fine with me too.

a menacing, almost attack/ambush pose springs to my mind, or poised on a rock, crouched looking down from the rock ready to spring/ambush from above:thumbsup:
bit like a mantle piece ornament looking down to the floor:)
with the tail curled round the exterior of the rock, so to keep it as a cast mould would work

Say, just a bit OT but I like what you guys are doing for the Shirow Porject. neat stuff. Especially liked that dude in the hat...his hair in particular. I always have trouble modeling hair. At Full size, the spikes and Tail would print fine.
And the Tail would also help the creature stand on it own.

Thanks. Well, the lizard dude actually had some shoulder gear and a cape in my original sketch for him but I wasn't sure about those so I dropped them. I guess it kind of shows... more orthos of these designs coming and ONE FINAL NEW DESIGN. After that, I take a break from the pencil to go back to some modeling. :shrug:

Thanks for the front view, if you get around to it making the rest of his arm would be nice, but i will be fine with out it. Hopefully i will get to start working on this soon. Also, are you going to be doing any orthos of your wizard, i think he would make for and awesome sculpture with the magic and qhat not in his hands. Anyways thanks ofr the orthos. Peace

I'm working on the Mage's turn around now. Been awhile since I've done one pre-posed so I'm just trying to get the angles correct. I will either add his arms or post up a detail of them, how's that?

I have a feeling that would be against the rules, as I think the original concpets have to be...well...original. :) However, after I fixed your link, I discovered that the person you are talking about visits this site. Why not just send him an IM and ask him to join the contest so he can post up his orthos of the Ninja and any other cool models he's made?

For your personal use, I can draw up a Bugs for you to model but 3dArtToPart probably won't touch it with a 10 foot pole unless ya somehow got permission to have one milled. There's all kinds of copyright and trademark stuff involved.

Slow and steady but on its way. :) I just noticed that the Mage ortho's legs are screwed up. They're too short. Now I have to do a normal turn around. :cry:

I just started. I don't have much more than the eye, but I just wanted to show you that I'm starting :) Since I'm working off the ref you posted, I'm having a bit of a hard time determining the shape of the eyelid. It looks like the upper lid doesn't follow a smooth curve and it also looks like there's some thickness to it that there wouldn't be in a real eye.
Anyhow, I followed the ref as closely as I could and this is what I made. Again, this is really early, but I wanted to show you that 3d is being produced (!) and also to get your comments on this area because it is kind of tricky.

Here come the refs. Nice start by the way.
I would say you have a good shape going, though not quite what I had in mind, as the refs will show. However, the one you have could easily be a sister or brother to the reference image. The eye in the refs sits more in the head than on the head. I get more of an on the head impression from the eye you modeled but with the right refs, all that will change, I'm sure. :)

note: the eyelids are more closed in the side shot, you can make them wider if you want or close them up...whatever is better for ya. I know how tough it is to model something without decent orthos, sorry to keep you all waiting.

Thanks Teyon. I think your new refs will be much easier to model from. I was having issues with proportions because the other drawing looked cool, but I couldn't get it to work right in 3d. Now I can see exactly what you want.
I think I'll probably abandon "brother of new reference image" and start again :) I'll just consider that a dry run for the real model. hah.
ps. I'll try to post my WIP as I work. I've never worked from someone else's concepts before, so I really appreciate getting your feedback. Crits are always welcome.

:) Glad to hear it. I'm looking foward to seeing what you all can do with my refs. I usually don't share 'em...greedy pig that I am, I like to model from them myslef instead. It'll be neat to see what other folks do with them. Looking foward to updates.
I know that sometimes a sketch, even an ortho, doesn't carry over to 3D very well, so if something doesn't seem to work, don't be afraid to tweak it as needed. Just be sure to mention it though, here, so the voters will know why it was done. Ok, time for bed. It's 4am here in NYC and I have to be to work soon. Ciao.

I figured I ought to show you my new model, at the same point as I had my other one. The modelling was easier this time because of your ref. Thanks! Still an early stage, but I wanted you to see the eye, because I always think that's one of the most important aspects of a model.
Any crits about the eye shape or general body? I was wondering if you liked the oval shape of the body, or if you wanted one end tapered more than the other.

Nah, looks good to me. Don't forget his lower jaw juts out, so when you put that in, the shape will obviously change to the lower half seeming to be wider. That won't actually be the case but it will feel that way, just like it does in the sketches. I like it I like it. :) Couldn't have done better myself.
Just thought I'd remind you about something I forgot...his orthos are missing a toe. He should have 2 in the front. Just thought I'd mention that. I make silly mistakes when I'm doing too many things at the same time. :)

Here's another small update (slowly but surely. hehehe). I just did the basic shape of the mouth. Even though I'm working slowly, I'm really enjoying myself. This Evolution project is probably the most fun I've had modelling in a while! (so thanks, Teyon and Kirt). As before, feel free to crit what you see.

Hey there! Lookin' good. I think the leg could be plumper and you see the side shot? where the leg cuts off? If you were to bring it down to about where the image is cropped, I think that would do it. :)

I'm a big fan of rocks. In fact, the lizard warrior sketches I was making had him sitting on a particular rock face. Having said that, maybe we should stray from that. How about a 3 way finger sign? One pointing east, one pointing north and the other pointing up? He could be on a desert type surface which would allow for some grass and/or cacti and lots of little pebbles (ok, I can't let go of the rock thing). What do you think?

I was thinking it would be cool to try to write our names on the street sign (I just think that would be cool. hehehe)- kind of like you're at the corner of Mechis and Teyon.
Also, I was trying to think of some props for him to lean on, or for his arm to be attached to (like his arm attached to the street sign's pole, or something) because I the body is pretty heavy looking and the legs are itty-bitty.
Do you think pebbles would show up? Maybe medium sized rocks?
I dunno. Just some ideas.

How about he is on the underneath of an overhang rockface, drawing out his gecko like ability to climb walls and ceilings

I worked on the legs and the feet a bit. Earlier in the thread, you said the purple guy had two toes, but your concept (on page 1) has 3, so I did three. I hope you like it. I posted the whole character and a view of just the feet. Do you think it needs work? I didn't put in any toe joints b/c I couldn't see any in the concept.
Oh, and another thing I struggled with a bit, was whether to do the long part of the feet with separate toes coming out of the ankle or not. Looking at the concept, it looked like they were all attached, so that's how I modelled it. What do you think?

He looks great. Actually, I lppked back and realized I didn't really make clear how his were, my fault. They are seperate BUT so close together that they may as well be a single unit for the purposes of milling. So I think it's great. Don't change a thing...unless his teeth are still stuck to the upper lip the way they were in the image you first posted them in. I'm sure you moved them foward a bit so they come out of the lower lip and barely touch the upper part of the head. :)
Great job. He just needs his oversized arms now. He kind of walks and stands like a gorilla most of the time, so if you need to wanted any clarification on that. His arms are so long, they are almost always held in front of him or dragged behind him, so the length of them doesn't interfere with his movement. In fact, he uses them to walk with more than his feet, which kind of serve more of a balancing purpose than anything else.

I'm about to start on the arm/hand and I have a question for you. In your concept, I'm not sure if the purple dude has human-like fingers (just really short) with two knuckles per finger, or if the fingers have just one knuckle.

I was debating that as I was drawing it. After looking over the first image, I decided I had to go with:
The main knuckle in the hand propper and one knuckle joint before the finger tip.
I hope you get things worked out Jayreef. I'm pretty excited to see how close your lizard is to the one I made in Rhino some time back. :)
and people have 3 joints in their fingers but only two in their thumbs. :)

I modelled the rest of the character. Tell me if you see anything wrong or if you want me to change something. I gotta tell you, I've never modelled anything like this before-- This is my first complete character... and those are the first set of hands that I've ever done! hahahaha. I'm pretty excited to see how this is turning out!!!
I'd really like to hear your comments about proportions and stuff. I want to stay true to your concept.
If you think the character is good, then I'll move on to making the stand/environment. Tell me if you have any other ideas than the ones mentioned before, or... (hehehe), if you'd like to draw up some ideas, that would be cool too. Or, I'll just think of something :)
ps. Looking at my pic again, I think the junction of the fingers to the arm looks a little flat. I may try to round that out a bit. hmmmm...

OK. I was looking at the concept again and I decided that the fingers were too long, so I redid most of the hand and shortened the fingers. I still am not sure that it looks right. For some reason, in your pic, the hand is pretty wid and almost looks like it flows into the arm, but there is still some definition. I don't think that my model does the same thing. Do you have any ideas on what proportions are wrong in my model?

Hiya gang. Mechis, the thumb should be just a little shorter or pulled back from the fingers just a tiny bit more. That's it on the porportional problems, the rest is strictly detail oversights. The inside of your model's forearm has some kind of seam showing, you may want to smooth that out. Also, the area where the elbow is has points on the top and bottom of your model (the elbow itself is fine) these could be smoothed down but if it's too difficult to do, you can leave it. THe back of his hand and his palms are not really as detailed as the refs. If nothing else, you should define the palms a bit more, making the major creases if you think all the little detail probably won't turn up in the statuette. So far, this is one of the best translations to 3D of a character I've made (including my own attempts). Great work but don't forget about his ears and his spikes.
Jayreef, things are coming along pretty well my major concern right now is that porportions seem a bit off to me. He's looking wide and short. I like the plating so far, it's less smooth then what I'd made. If it will help a little, take a look at this old Rhino version I'd made. The tail isn't visible in this image but you can get a feel of where I think the model should be going. I have to say though, you got the rough forms up pretty quickly!
Note that in this image, I think I made his arms a bit longer than they should have been also.

Well, I'm really psyched by all this and I want you folks to have a shot at the prize, so I'm gonna do anything I can to help. I'm leaving for Denmark at the end of this week (i.e this coming Saturday). So you guys will be on your own for a week or so after that. Jayreef, the knuckles could use a little more tweaking and the nails should be more like human nails but extended. Hmm....do you know Sabertooth? The X-Men villain? Well, anyway, like his nails. I'll post up an idea of what I mean later tonight. Put simply, the nail should sit on top of the finger like ours instead of from the center like a cat's. Great work:buttrock:

Hey guys I figured i would post an image of the head since it was lost in the post. Anyways here it is.
Turumdarak i was wondering why did that render take 8 hours long. What are you rendering with and what settings. That render above with my ogre only took 3 minutes, and i was doing global illumination, granted I have a gig of ram and stff but still, 8 hours man, you might want to figure out what is going on.

@Katon: the renderer I'm using is called Toxic (http://toxicengine.sourceforge.net/) it's in Alpha stage right now. I also had the sampling set to 20x20, 1,000,000 photons, and then I rendered out to 1024x1024 and cropped to what you see now.
The 512x512 renders I did took "maybe" 3 hours. When time is important, I just use the renderer in trueSpace, which is many times faster, but no GI.
The head is looking nice, your looks more evil/angry and tonton's looks more dangerously insane. :p

Teyon, what is going on,
I hope you like my model, i know you left before i started. So anyways are you talking abotu my character, the forearm you said is funny. Anyways, I am alsmost to the point of staring all the accesories. So, I was wondering if you had any ideas a little more detailed of how we should do the straps around his waist. I can do it my self, but i figudred I would ask since this is supposed to be a team project. Also like i have said before we should make hims a pimp weapon, I think a big axe would be cool, with some stuff hanging off and cloth wrapped around it and what not. Also a shield could be cool, I was trying to think about what this guy would be doing, and a shiled would make him look a little gladiatorish. But it could be cool. katon - May I just say what an amazing job you did on the face of the troll/orc/giant/whatever-you-want-to-call-it! When I took a quick look while teaching Rhino last Friday, the entire class ooooed and ahhhhed at the head. It was funny, actually, as I was teaching them how to model a head in Rhino at the exact moment. lol. So, if you can't tell, I'm very happy with the head and I'm also pleased with the chest, shoulders, and back. Now, here's the kicker. The forearms aren't quite buldging correctly. If you hold your arm out straight and look in a mirror, you'll notice the outer part of the forearm sticks out more then the underside. Your model has the opposite thing going on. tweak that and life would be sweet. :)
(if you click the link and it doesn't work, just let me know and I'll email the image to you along with a few anatomy refs to clarify things)
More gear you say? ok. I work only an hour and a half today, so unless I get visited by a really hot woman, there should be no problem designing some more optional gear for you to add as you see fit. Also, I've been to the Panzer (and I'm spelling it wrong) site in the past. Great stuff, glad you saw it and posted a link, it put things in perspective for my class. :) I think going along those lines is fine but they kind of over do some things, allowing the character to be lost in too much baggage. The newer models there though are more like what I would do. So yes, we're thinking along those lines both for the bases of the model you are working on and also for th gear but on a more streamlined approach.
oh, about the base...I was thinking we could place him in front of a cave entrance, maybe nearly under the entrace? Or between two pillars (one broken, obviously for the sake of assymetry). What do ya think?

Jayreef - How are you doing? I hope you're feeling a bit better. My friend, you have done some excellent work while I was away. You really took the model and ran, extrapolating some of the details I neglected to provide you. For that, I'm both impressed and pleased (if I can say that without sounding condescending). I like the spine you made in particular.

Having said all that, I'd just like to see a bit more definition in the back muscles (I provided a shaded view of my old model as a ref) if that is at all possible at this point. I liked the 2 crouching images I'd posted sometime back, the one with the spear would probably be the best to use, as it won't hide that much of the front compared to the one with him on a wall. So, Lizard dude, crouching atop a rock-face (rock-face like the one in Lion King when Pumba was born). How's that sound for ya?
Oh, I should mention the spike thingies on my model are completely optional on yours. I didn't care for them much after I'd made them and I have a feeling you'd feel the same.:thumbsup:

Turumdarak - The mage moves along well from what I've seen. Again, not sure what all I missed last week before the attack. I was really upset about that by the way, I took a quick look, left, came back, and I couldn't get in because some shmuck mucked up the system. What a pain.
Anyways, my only concern with your model comes up when I look at his neck and then look at his staff.. His hand should come about half-way around his neck or so, right? If that's true, I don't think they'll be big enough to wrap around the staff. I could be worng though, it's too early to really tell. Looking foward to what you pull out of your magic hat next!

About the panzar stuff, i agree it is a little over board, but i ment the quality i guess of how it is exacuted, the parts that is. I think we need some cool stuff for our guy but not nearly as much as a pnzar model.
Also i like the brocken pillar idea, that is actualy what i was thinking of before you even said that. Also I am glad you class liked my model that is cool. Anyways, it is 5 am here and i have been up all night playing UT 2004 with some friends, so i am off to bed, and i will get back to work on him tomorow. Oh and one last thing, if you have time, think of how you would like the straps around his waist and stuff, in the drawings it is kind of basic, if you dont have time i will just imprivise, and see what you think. Hmm....an Axe would be better probably. More in-line with the character then the mace. Ok. Axe it is. I'll happily pour on the details but I'm just not sure what will turn up once milled. After being given a tour of a prototyping facility last week too, I know a lot can show up but a lot can get lost too depending on how fine the prototyping system can get. But what the hheck, we'll worry about that when we need too. Now go get some sleep.

Hey Jayreef. Hmmm...There's just two areas now that bite at me.
The Shoulder area, particualry, the lower area going into the body. That seems a bit odd down there. I don't know how it would look posed though, it may come out ok it may not. If you can find a way to make that transition seem a bit more natural, great or if you already know that it will look fine once posed as it is, then just ignore me. :)
The little circles in the neck area...I think the points back there could move up along the neck towards the head a bit to soften that transition also.
Otherwise, it's fine and ready to move on to the next phase.

Just so you guys have some extra pose ideas for the giant/troll/orc/thingie, here are some really old sketches showing the transformation of the character over the last year and a half.
Tontonsuspect - I like what I see! Gladiator was an inspiration for my very first sketch of this character and the theme kind of carried through over the months and years I've been tweaking him. Axes, spears, swords, and knives are all on the way. Should be up in about an hour or so.
Oh, I think that once something is drawn up by the 2D artist for a certain character, it techinically can be used by the 3D artist regardless of if the Turn arounds contains it. So if you all see stuff in any of the sketches I post for the particular character you're working on that you'd like to incorporate into the model, I don't think anyone can deny you the right to do it. :)

Gang, after some searching, I discovered that the orthos only need to give you the extra info not provided by the inital concept and/or the posed image. If you have a look at our fearless leader's post for his entry, you'll see he only provided a front shot of the body and a side and front shot of the head. The rest he either said in posts or the folks working on the models extrapolated on their own. here's a quick LINK (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=135507&perpage=15&highlight=evolution&pagenumber=1) to clarify. So those of you done or almost done with your model, unless you really need the image to finish up your work with, I don't really see the need to draw up a back shot of anything else right now. So, let me hear what you think of this.
Turumdarak - Since you're making the model pre-posed, I will be making that back image for ya. I thought I'd already done that but hey...I could be wrong or simply forgot to post it....

Some reminders about model reqs.:
Remeber that any part that doesn't intersect another will be created as a SEPERATE object by the machine. That means make sure things like belt straps, shoes, bags, etc. are all attached to, intersect or made from the rest of the model. Otherwise, we'll end up with one Mage and one mage's bag. Don't worry about gaps between the bag strap and the body, as long as the body intersects with the bag at some point, it will be fine. Same goes for sandals, hair, little dangling thingies, axes, maces, spikes. You get the idea.
I saw a Rook chess piece made where the inside of the piece was hollow except for a stairway that started from the floor of the Rook to the top. If you were tiny enough you could climb the stairs and come out on the top. It was also transparent, so such minor detail could be seen. Having said that, had the stair way not connected to at least one end of the Rook (top or bottom) the piece would have turned out as a Rook with a hollow center and then another piece in the shape of a stairway. You'd end up having to glue them together if that were possible and in such a situation, it wouldn't be.
Just have another look at this LINK (http://www.3darttopart.com/modeling%20info.php) to get a refresher course on what your requirements are as modelers. There are certain things that HAVE to be met or the whole thing is pointless.
If it's not a prob with the folks at 3DART TO PART, I'm just going to copy and paste a very important part of the page that may keep some of you from doing more work than you need too.
"4) Avoid things that stick out of your model such as long thin swords, fins or long thin spikes since these can become warped during the build process or broken when being removed from the machine. As long as the parts have enough thickness, they will build correctly.
All the items that are part of your model should be modeled so that they will have real thickness when the model is built by our equipment. Knife blades, belts, garments ALL items must be modeled to have a thickness. When we scale the model to the size that you request the parts must have a minimum thickness of about .07 inches (1.8mm)., about the thickness of a U.S. quarter. Shorter tapered projections like horns are OK. In general the smaller the model the less detail will show up. In this picture the larger model is 2 inches tall, the smallest size we would recommend for a model.
5) Small features or fine surface detail usually will not show up on the solid model, don’t expect things like modeled eyelashes or fingernails to be reproduced"

I started on a new face, which is why it looks so horrible. Just ignore the mouth region right now, I haven't worked on it very much.
Also the left sleeve is barely roughed out.

Thanks teyon for the clarification on some of that stuff. I was thinking of making the axe in his hands rather thick, and make it looks heavy, Also if i put a weapon on his back, i will make sure it intersects some how so it is held on.
Abotu the leather straps around his waist. Should i just make straps that go around and buckle together in the front or side.
Also, I have been tryign ot think of how i can model the stuff on his skirt thing. Any ideas there, I am not sure exactly how I am going to do that yet. Anyways talk to you soon.

Katon, have a look at the end of Kirt's post. someone came up with a method for modeling the quilts of the character's shirt. I'm thinking the same thing could work for the scales but you just pull down (and out) the lower points instead of leaving them square.

Alright here is an update. I was thinking somehting liek this but with him posed. But then i started thinking, this seems kind of big when the model is supposed to be the focus for this. Maybe we could figure something else out for him to stand on, just somehting smaller.
Also here is the axe, this is abotu the scale i was thinking for him and the orc, also with it this big, it will have a sturdy handle if printed. Anyways let me knoe what you all think.
Teyon, should we do a shiled for him, or keep him with out. Just a thought.

Katon: how about a large hammer with a short handle, something he could swing with one arm?
Also, the axe looks a little short, or a little long. Too short if it's two handed, too long if it's one handed.
Also, you could see about having the orc standing on the broken pillar, one foot with on the stump, and the other placed on the fallen segment.

The voice from on high (aka. Kirt) has confirmed my suspicions:
"Although it's important to show enough views to demonstrate all the important aspects of the character, I'm going to say that all views are not a requirement for the contest.
As long as you've supplied enough views for the modeller to complete the 3D without having to improvise a large portion of the character. You should be OK."
So, I think that means all models are a go. I just need to light a fire under my butt so you all can finish on time. But first, I have to get dressed for work. Be back in about 3-4 hours.

OK I finaly have some decent updtes for you all. Anyways here it is. I modeled his leather straps around his body, along with a little rough of his other weapon, which is not done yet. Also his undergamret is just a test, it is not deformed corectly right now and I knwo this, but what do you guys think abtou the scales, good or not.
Teyon, I fixed his forearm, what do you think of it now. Also I changed the proportions of his lower leg, the shin area, I made it a little longer and made his upper thigh a little shorter, I think it is looking better, but please give me your input. Anyways here are the pics. Peace

I like his skirt. The belt buckles are a good change but the belts themselves are over done. There are either one too many on him or they need to be scaled down a bit. It looks messy right now. I like the little additions to them though, those diamond thingies...neat. His size is good. I'll be gettin' that pose to ya later today then.
On second thought, just lose the bottom most belt and I think it'll be fine.
The strap for the axe on his shoulder should hang more or fit more snug. It seems to high up to be that slack, so either moving the loose end down or tightening the whole thing up would fix that.

I would imagine that depends on what they were doing at the time and the type of body builder we're talking about. While in a modern body builder pose, many more veins are more likely to turn up than just walking around on a day to day kind of deal. We'd want maybe one or two veins in the arms and that would probably be it. The idea behind the anatomy in the sketches isn't one of a guy who works out, so much as it is an idea of a muscular man. Think old fashioned muscle men and not the steroid body builder kind. :) So the look should be somewhat toned but not excessively so and not to the point where every vein would pop out.

BTW read a good article in 3Dworld mag about the competition sponsors, and the max size they can create is 10inches by 8 inches, unless it is built from sep parts:thumbsup:

I was wondering how big they were able to get. I am actually considering having some models made up. Not sure if I want to go with BNTStudios or 3DArtToPart. The toy company that took me on a tour of their prototyping facility had a few different machines to work with and I liked the SLA one the best for tiny details but it can be expensive, so that's why these two places seem pretty neat to me. you can also choose the medium it is made from when it comes to production, not for the competition, but in general.
the standard appears to be layers of powder that are compressed together then soaked in superglue:eek:
this is really cheap i reckon, at like $20-$40
but they say in the mag, "if you want it in metal, bring a fat wallet"
very tempting though, even if you dont win, but can also enter a similar comp in 3DWorld mag, but at that kinda price, you would wouldn't you after a months hard work

I am a cinema 4d user, and i have to say, maxon have great aftersales servive, but there visual training stuff is non existant, and i have rigged in a few apps, but C4D is the the hardest/worst, and i am running round trying loads of stuff to get this project finished, now that mocca is such a dog

@Katon: looks good, but I did just notice that his sandals stick out a little bit infront of his toes. You might want to shorten the sandals a little, not sure though.

Thanks and I also agree, I was looking at this last night and thinking of how much a pain it is ging to be to pose. BUt hopefully It will work out. I was thinking of just ussing a lattice and deforming it all to where i want once it is posed or something liek that.
Teyon, I will try taking the lower buckle off and see how it looks. Also in the ortho drawings i was not sure what was around his waist so I just went with belts, so hopefully that is fine. I will aos try to fix the strap around his shoulder for the back weapon, I am thinking of giving it some slack, so he doesnt have to much tied to him tight. also in the orthos I noticed something around his right forearm, is there, it would be kind of cool to make a strap or somethign and put it around him.
turumdarak I purposely made his sandals a little langer, btumaybe they are a bit to long, i will look into that, thanks.
You know what i just thought of and might be kind of cool. If we gave him a tatoo, you know the ones that are branded on and swell out. We could do that and displace it and maya has displacement to polys so we could add that in the end once he is posed, it might be cool and would give him more of a story that way.

Katon...I like the turntable thing. No, I mean the anim is great too but I think that turntable thing he's standing on would've made a cool base.
he wears a strap sometimes around his wrist and sometiems it's prayer beads. Depends on what I feel like drawing at the moment. I know it's strange to see an orc/troll/giant/thingie with religion but hey, stranger things can happen. Add it if you want.
It's not just the buckle that I thought should go, it's that whole bottom belt. In the drawing, there's a waist guard that has a shoulder strap and belts to help keep up his skirt and protect his midrift at the same time. It was basically just a piece of leather with a strap and some belts but everyone seems to like the idea you popped in with more...I do too kind of...just not that last belt. It makes the whole thing come too far down his body.

OK cool teyon, i will drop the last belt and post some pics for ya to check out. The base i used for that turntable is just the top of one of those pillars. We could pose him on that if you like. I could make a more detialed pillar as well wich would be cool if printed. Tell me more abotu the prayer beads, what do they look like, i think it owuld be a cool addition. if you have any drawings of them let me know. I might do some searching online to find something. Katon - I like the idea more and more of him ontop of that pillar. More detail on it is fine if you want to add em but I'm just as happy with it as is. The prayer beads are just some beads tied together by a string and used for chanting/concetration while praying. I thought it'd be neat for him to do it before each battle. If you do put him on the pillar(s) I have a pose idea that may be neat. Again, late for work so it'll have to keep until I get back. ciao.

Here's the base we talked about. I made the bricks smaller and closer spaced together. Initially, I tried making them a little rough, but I thought the smooth version looked better. What do you think?

Dude looks great. Teh only other thing i wuold say, just get each brick the prortion you want, if that is it then good, if you want it for rectangular then lengthen them a bit. BUt other thn that i think you are set.

Those are some awesome character sketches, Teyon. Glad to see you are still around and being busy :) Seeing you guys bring them to life in 3D is also amazing as well, especially seeing the proportions come out so accurately compared to the original sketches. Nice work all around :applause:

hey guys, one last updatye before i am off to work. I worked on his weapon some. I also made it a bit longer, so he culd hold it with two hands easier.

I was just offered a possible job at a video game studio and i have to get to doing some sample work for them, so this next week i might not have time to finish. I re rendered my orc again not much has changed realy but his weapn and some cleanup on the mesh. but anyways here is a render of him. I just overwrote the old one s thoughs links should work as well. And yes i sitll have to fix the scale mail in the back. Peace

The axe looks pretty good, just not sure about the straps where the hands go.
@Teyon: glad you like the staff and pouch. Should there be a clasp or some way to keep the flap on the pouch closed? And on the tunic/shirt, does it have ties or something else?

OK, here we go, the lizard boy is rigged, its kinda rough, but when the final pose is put into place, I reckon too pull a few areas into place.
I made up a pose whilst waiting for the design from Teyon:bowdown: , but he is kinda coming from an arch or cave at the moment, i know that Teyon likes his caves, lol..
The shiny skin surface is down the skinning and cross app movement of the file, but it kinda grows on you

Jayreef nice stuff man, but i think oyu have some balance issues going on or somehting. to me it looks like you are ytrying to get him to look like he is atacking. Right now i think you need to pull his left leg further forward and his right further back, because right now since his right foot is forward it looks like he is falling forward. Good stuff, Keep it up.
