here's an ogre I've been working on. he's still not done, but I figured I'd show him off a little and see what people think.
**update** full body pics posted on page two :D

I have seen a lot of ogres on other forums, this one is nice, very original as orgres go.
01-29-2002, 09:22 AM
wow, looks good, can't wait to see it when your finished.
01-29-2002, 09:47 AM
This is good :) I don't have much to say... the nose, the wrikles, the mouth...everything is very well done... hummm... what's with the eyes, are they closed or he just has really small eyes ?
01-29-2002, 09:53 AM
yeah, I was going to mention something about the eyes...
his eyes are closed at the moment. I'm planning to rig the face all up and move it around, so I modeled the lids shut so they would be easier to skin.
hopefully that will happen soon, then I'll post some pics of various facial expressions.
and thanks for the comments.

That is a really nice model - good execution. It's good to see such a wicked range of styles and talents on this forum. I am really impressed with the quality of everything I have seen.
Makes me want to work harder :D

I really like the forehead/brow area, this is going to be amazing when textured.
01-30-2002, 09:47 AM
Good stuff! Can you post a pic of the wireframe before smoothing. I would love to see how you handled the wrinkles.
01-30-2002, 02:28 PM

02-01-2002, 01:23 PM
ok, you asked for it, so here it is... the ogre's wireframe, in unsmoothed and smoothed formats.
keep in mind he's still in progress, so don't thrash me too hard.
02-02-2002, 12:20 AM
Cool Thx! I dig how you modeled the forehead and ears.
02-02-2002, 12:48 AM

02-02-2002, 12:51 AM
I love it!! Very very good job!
Are you going to do the body?
02-02-2002, 02:32 AM

03-28-2002, 03:58 AM
and a back view...
03-28-2002, 04:06 AM
Whoah. Nice job! Ogre as envisioned by Bernini. Very cool.
Toes look a little cramped at the end of the foot, but otherwise a stellar job.
Can't wait to see what you do next!
03-28-2002, 04:10 AM
nice model. can you animate him?
03-28-2002, 04:11 AM
03-28-2002, 04:42 AM
Wow. Is he on "the steroids"?
Very cool, I like the size variance....
and of course, what post is complete without .... :buttrock:
03-28-2002, 04:53 AM

I love the proportions, especially the small head to large body. Are you going to animate him any time soon?
03-28-2002, 09:06 AM
wow, thats intense.
maybe if you flattened the foot a little and lengthed the toes?
you know its good if someone is suggesting changes to the the toes :D
do you have some close up images of the upper body and also of the hands (they look real good)?
03-28-2002, 09:15 AM
Hi there nathan...
I normally hate to reply just to say WOW, great work mate!!
Gonna hate myself for a while....
WOW, great work mate!!!
03-28-2002, 09:38 AM
I think it looks great but the head could be a little bit bigger. Thats just my opinion though. Great work
03-28-2002, 09:43 AM
Yes, I agree with you guys...WOW!
I sure would like to see the rough poly of the body though.
03-28-2002, 10:59 AM
Hot damn, those proportions are dope, dont change them.:wip:
03-28-2002, 06:43 PM
Don't change a thing, it's absolutely gorgeous man, *Mr. Burns voice* exxxxxxxxxxxcellent :applause:
now deck him out with some gear, and texture him :) what software are you using? cause I really love the render also.
03-28-2002, 09:14 PM
that owns quite alot
dang! and you don t have a website what a shame ;)
I wonder if we can see your avatar too cause it seems nice too.
Just another "WOW"
03-28-2002, 11:09 PM
I'd say the proportions are great. He's awesome!
03-29-2002, 01:00 AM
whoa... when i saw the head i thought "dudes pretty good"... then i scrolled down to the bottom and saw the body and was like "crap, dudes really good."
my only crits are the incongruous combo of the head and body and the muscle striation across his pecks. separately the head and body are both very nice, but together i feel the head detracts from the splendor of the body. the neck muscles seem to call out for a head/head placement more akin to Blur Studios "pit" character, Greg Capullo's "Creech" or if nothing else at least a larger head. as far as the muscles striation across the chest the top line seems cool but the way the lower one cuts across the nipple so deeply seems to detract from the form.
fantastic model. love the direction your heading in, and echoing the calls of others... post some wireframes... pretty please.

Reminds me of this by Bay Rait:
03-29-2002, 11:40 AM
Incredible! True perfection.
03-29-2002, 02:12 PM
Really impressive !
Just a littl' question : did you tweak the lips : what mickatt said was true, I dunno if you fixed it (apperently not, but I cannot say, the picture is quite small).
Anyway, 5 stars ! IMPRESSIVE ! WOW !!!
03-29-2002, 08:51 PM
Where do you work?
04-02-2002, 01:11 AM
thanks for the comments folks
to answer some questions:
yes, technically he could be animated... I've got him mostly rigged up, that's how I posed him. but since I'm not an animator, I personally wouldn't want to animate him ;)
and yes, I did change the lips to match the teeth some more. here's a new pic of his head so you can see better. oh, and I finally opened his eyes so they don't look so tiny (of course, they're still pretty small, but that's what I was going for)
04-02-2002, 01:17 AM
Matt Clark: actually, that head reminds me of this face test I did of the ogre :)
04-02-2002, 01:24 AM
oh, and here's a shot of him unposed. this is how I modeled him, in case anyone was cursious...
04-02-2002, 10:13 PM
I'm still curious to see a roughed Poly of him... Progressive shots... Not finished product. Let's see how it's put together.
04-03-2002, 01:54 AM
Real C.G. up in here!
the thing is that, just a week ago I made a 2D that looks kinda like this.
I see the WHOLE community is SHOOCK up by the orc/ogre/troll idea. I like it! But if a begginer attempts to do some of those chars he'll be accused with compying and stuf.
Anyways REALLY REALLY REALLLLLLLY good! dimensions of the body..off the Scale :D
04-03-2002, 02:11 AM
I know that he's supposed to have extreme proportions, but I don't think it fits together! He looks like he's 3 different characters stuck together! I think, smaller hands/feet and a bigger head! ..not by much, but I definietly think it's too extreme at the moment! ..other than that, GREAT modeling! ;)
04-03-2002, 03:43 AM
very nice model.
I like these exagerated proportions. I think it could work quite good in some extreme Dof shots.
Are you going to texture him as well?
And how about the rig. Some nice muscle expressions would be great.
really good stuff.
06-29-2002, 08:23 AM
The best ogre i ever seen!!:buttrock:
06-29-2002, 08:25 AM
Nathan have you done anymore work on him since?
