View Full Version : Machineflesh 2D Challenge Entry: Juha Kämäräinen

03 March 2004, 07:51 PM
Juha Kämäräinen has entered the Machineflesh 2D Challenge.

03 March 2004, 08:03 PM (

Scribble base.. Done with my lousier arm.

03 March 2004, 08:12 PM (

Playing around with the idea of team meeting new entity. Propably gonna change this a lot. Maybe even get bigger view of the team and the entity.
Hostile or friendly entity. Team will have to figure that out

03 March 2004, 08:27 PM
Interesting way of working. Looks like we'll be discovering all that little by little. I'll be waiting for the next ones. Looks promizing :)

03 March 2004, 06:46 PM (

Giving some volume to the main shapes. Still so messy. Still lot to go!

Gonna add more details later.

03 March 2004, 06:59 PM
I like the way your are starting out. Very interesting and original. I like what you have so far. I'll have to stay tuned to see what comes of it.

03 March 2004, 08:23 PM
Well lets hope for the best.

Its nice to have a start what makes people wonder, but id rather make a final piece which makes people wonder even more so!

I am totally confused till now but u definitly woke my interest!!!

Waiting for more and I also have to say really unusual workflow... Even more unusual then mine:beer:

Tommy Lee

04 April 2004, 06:35 PM (

Enjoy the fake cool techno addition.

04 April 2004, 02:33 PM (

Make way for sharper background base.

Damn character and lousy closepart. Ill have to remove them in order to make the background work.. Dont worry ill bring them back with a twist :)

04 April 2004, 02:42 PM
no bet

can't wait :)

04 April 2004, 08:29 AM (

Im lost with the background.

Please help.

04 April 2004, 05:25 PM (

Dont hit me!

04 April 2004, 06:05 PM

04 April 2004, 07:41 PM
i can dig it when a cat talks to himself, now comon i gotta go pick up the momo, ok ok i'm commin!!

04 April 2004, 06:31 PM (

Hopefully im not uploading too many steps, but i cant help it. Every time i stop working on the pic.. I need to upload it.

Next im going to bring out the detail on the entity. The main MACHINE FLESH part.

Hope you like what i have so far. Drop a message or two.

04 April 2004, 07:14 PM
Keep em comin'! I love seeing how other people develope their artwork. It just intrigues me. I like how you work so loosely and shape it up from there. Im really looking foreward to see what this leads to.

04 April 2004, 08:41 AM (

I boosted up my working resolution. I really gotta try harder to sharpen up my ideas and my piece.

Wish me luck. Because i need it!

04 April 2004, 03:18 PM (

I made small tonal changes also i decided to turn my humans in grayscale. Since it proved to be extra hard to bring them in full color.

This is bad since i dont usually know how to color BW pictures.

Im kinda happy with the direction its going. Maybe this will be my best piece who knows.

04 April 2004, 08:17 AM
Hey Falcor_, I saw your entry a long time ago, it's nice to see you progress well.
As a lot of people said, I was pretty confused about your previous posts. Didn't know what to think about.
Well that's funny to see the way you work. It reminds me of a story about Rodin:
A reporter asked him once "How do you do to create such beautiful sculptures?" and he goes "I'm creating nothing. The shape was already in the stone piece. I'm just revealing it".
\o/ I hope you like my story.
About the B&W, maybe you can create a bright light by the explosion, and so avoid B&W by having a contrasted colored light on the characters?

It's going to be a great picture!
Keep it up! :applause:

04 April 2004, 09:35 AM
Thanx frood
And Nirlin, Tommy Lee, Mustard Wash, Ninosboombox.

For replying.

Frood that story is nice, but if i would be doing a stone sculpture. I would have ended up with a pile of ruble because i couldnt have thinked out the actual shape in time. Computers are easy i can adjust stuff for ages.
Luckily i still have 60 days or so to define it.
Got lucky with that arm.. Face is so much harder to do. That second character needs all my luck.

I just try hard and get lucky once in a while! :wip:

Btw this was my first time i worked on that pic and decided not to upload it. I made too many flaws.

04 April 2004, 04:21 PM (

I ditched the background so i can work on the details on my entity. Btw. That second dude really haves that ugly hat. I'll fix it later on. Seems also to have sligtly wrong perspective on his face.

04 April 2004, 02:43 AM
I really like how the things are WIPing here!!!
Your second dude is pretty cool whilst some
nasty (and possibly armed and dangerous) THING
is forming in that machine ? - well, that would be my question actually, not a criticizm.
Keep it up, it is looking GREAT!!!

04 April 2004, 04:33 PM
Thanks EmpY!

Well of course i cant tell you the secret of my entity. Even my team is out to figure out what the heck is it. I even draw it in a way that i dont even think how it works or what it looks like.

EmpY your 3D machine flesh looks really cool :surprised

Hehehee. Oh well now the update

04 April 2004, 04:37 PM (

Whipped up some sort of background design. Also tried to sharpen up my ideas for my team in BW colors.

I have an idea how im going to light up the scene, but first i need the basic shapes so i can light them up in realistic manner.

04 April 2004, 08:20 AM (

I have been working on my team. This is going to take ages.

How many final coloring steps am i allowed to send? Anybody? help?

Since im about to hit 50% done mark so i might as well send the rest as final coloring stages.

04 April 2004, 04:29 PM
id get too confused working like that.. but it definately works for you. How did u start out with this technique? When did you decide to use it?

04 April 2004, 05:24 PM
Hey eupee

When i entered this competition first thing in my mind was that i need something realistic. Somehow when im working with cool outlines i start to be over protective with them and everytime i end up with cartoon result.

Main reason why im using this technique is it takes ages to come up with a cool idea so this allows me to "slightly" bend my ideas on a go for better result.

Thats about it. btw. I also made a cool oil spill come out of my machine thingy, but id rather improve it more before i upload it here.

04 April 2004, 07:57 PM
I like the way you work.
I dunno if I could work like that on this one, I'm a kinda guy
who develope the idea in my head first. That's why I havn't
uploaded anything yet hehe.
But you really master the technique!
Love the details btw. Waiting to see what's behind the lines
on the right there!

04 April 2004, 04:12 PM (

Hi again. Its update time. When i last told you about hitting that 50% done mark.

I lied.

I'm also thinking of making 3 human characters into that left corner.

04 April 2004, 04:30 PM

hm ,sorry :p

Yea , slowly but surely something Does come out of
what was in the beginning something that scared or
mystified us all

I still ain't gonna even guess what the thing in the center
looks like , heh , I try to see something in it and almost
succeed and suddenly see something else....
you sure it's not animated or sumthin ?

04 April 2004, 04:37 PM
Yeah. Hello friend.

Its still so unfinished. Gotta get more cool ideas into that pic.

I'll explain that the top part is supposed to be sort of like a seashell or something like that. Now dont go thinking of a normal seashell. Im supposed to figure out how im really going to show its alive and show them flesh parts too.

04 April 2004, 06:13 PM (

Wow i got an idea burst.

I decided to quickly draw my ideas to it somehow. Hopefully this is better direction for me.

Dont worry about them spider leg type on the right to be in wrong perspective i only copied legs on the left.

Then i dropped the 3rd guy idea from the pic. Decided to place the other guy on a table kneeling down and brushing off some pipes and wires from his line of sight.

Also that crane machine. And more pipes and sh** to everywhere.

04 April 2004, 08:52 PM
very strange concept and method ^^ but eally cool and instructive ... wait to see more .
Already love the arm of the guy very detailed ;)

04 April 2004, 11:20 PM
Ohhh, spider legs? Really? I'm kind of desappointed, 'cause one thing I really like in the previous pictures is the "vibrations" happening around that floating/flying round "entity" (shaped a bit like a living mine).
It's just... There are already so many spider legs in this contest, you know...

04 April 2004, 03:31 AM
Hey Frood.

Oh i thought if i would be doing floating one people would think it as an easy way through, but youre right about it.

I'll ditch the legs and think of something more of codename "blue peacock" stuff. ok Frood :lightbulb

04 April 2004, 02:11 PM
I have to say that I like the way you work....I dodn't move to computer work until the end of college, so I tend to be slightly more traditional....but when I ran through original - as in idea/scrap stage - concepts they look a lot like that, and the final concepts you see tend to be cleaned uo on the same page....This is why I try to stick to computers now rather than paper LOL.
I am a tree eater *cries*

Anywho...I like how this is comming along, I am glad you are moving in a different direction with the legs....He's right about spider legs. I also like the concept of it being a "found" lifeform....and the moment of finding is an interesting time!

My only tip would be to watch the legs, not sure what is happening with them guy looks like he may be standing in deep water...and the other is legless on a table...Just to my eyes right now. Though I am sure you will get to clearing it up, I wanted to throw it out just in case it is a pose thing. Anywho - keep it up!:bounce:

04 April 2004, 02:13 PM
Whups... I meant end of Highschool...darn my typos and running thoughts....grrr...

Hehehe...Well I'll be back later!:applause:

04 April 2004, 05:10 PM
Thanx for the tips Shinwa. :)
Drawing legs and making account for how to rest of the body follows is quite hard. So this might have some flaws still. Of course im not planning on leaving them here.

Frood! this is for you :wip:
Ive been brainstorming some brand new ideas. Hope you like the "old school" approach.

Ok spider legs are definetly gone!. They have been replaced by pulsating energy sphere. Kind of like magnetism and solid forms combined. So my entity is actually moving like a boat in water. Just that the part of the boat is invisible.

First red circle is supposed to tell you the main size. Second circle is where energy is reaching.

And hey.. Thanx also to Neozoom. Cool little avatar you got there.
Update time. :buttrock:

04 April 2004, 05:15 PM (

I have also been thinking of changing my second man into a goblin! Yes a goblin might make scifi picture look uncommon.

I'll do it because i suck at draw humans anyway

04 April 2004, 05:28 PM
WAW! An invisible magnetic field that pushes in the water ! Yeah, I like that, that rocks Falcor! :buttrock:
I'm glad you're back to the flying thing but hey! This is your CG so follow your own heart above all, right?

No other crits for now, keep going!

04 April 2004, 05:38 PM
I have seen the light

I like this far more also. Besides this will be actually easier to draw. I cant say what other people are thinking of this, but atleast we two are on the same side now

04 April 2004, 06:21 PM
You can make that three on this side now.
I like the way this going better now too. Floating in a magnetic field is a much more original and cool idea.
Go with the goblin too, the diversity will spark the viewers imagination more. Great stuff so far Falcor. :applause:

04 April 2004, 07:46 PM
Oops , make that four .

Energy pulse ,BRrravo !!!! :bounce:

another one for the goblin ! :bounce:

:lightbulb :buttrock:

04 April 2004, 02:37 AM
Salut to the Energy pulse! :buttrock: Nice one coming along...
Keep it up!

04 April 2004, 08:55 AM
This ought to be interesting. The motion of goblin replacement seconded! Maybe you could also come up with something else, even more unexpected.

04 April 2004, 03:36 PM (

Click the pic to view super zoom detail.

He looks pretty evil for my taste ill make him look nicer later on.

Just to let you guys see the progress

04 April 2004, 04:08 PM
wow, dude , I gotta say this just keeps
getting better and better all the time

04 April 2004, 01:33 PM (

Ok now the goblin gets little more shape. That will do since im going to give him semi transparent labcoat and sneakers anyway. Great excuse to draw goblins so i can ignore the humanoid shapes. Yeah right. I'll propably fix up all the anatomy problems when i get to lighting stage.

04 April 2004, 06:07 PM (

Lighting test. Also crop to official size told.

I changed my mans arm positions a little and with such amazing quality i didnt even bother counting up how many fingers does he have.

Maybe i should stop working in BW and try to bring it out in full colors and details later on.

Is the light too intense? I dont know.

04 April 2004, 12:33 AM
Hey! Good progression...Keep it up!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

04 April 2004, 09:01 AM
That's interesting how many steps you did :)

I thinl that now the elements are in place you can go for the colors !!

04 April 2004, 03:51 AM
Hey! Falcor~ You got really nice stuff going on here, and I am glad to see the all these steps of u working out the image! Good Job!! The only thing I am wondering is the relationship between the characters in ur image, and this also makes the content more interesting for sure! Can't wait to see ur finished product!! Keep it up!!

04 April 2004, 08:44 PM (

Ok now the energy sphere is starting show some force. Water is trapped at the edge of the energy sphere creating a vacoom inside. OK. Now my man is touching the edge of the sphere and the water is splashing upwards not down as you might usually think when in contact with normal water.

04 April 2004, 08:49 PM
XIA , bonestudio , masahiro :bounce: thanx for the support! :wavey:

When i think about my pic... It still havent even reached that 50% percent done mark.. But soon all the elements will be in and i can only sharpen it up to reach print resolution :hmm:

04 April 2004, 09:36 PM
it actually takes shape ! ...
...*takes another look at sketch #1" ....

u crazycool ....

04 April 2004, 05:51 AM
the process used for this work is very interesting, very different. great!

04 April 2004, 11:57 AM
Hey Falcor, its coming along nicely.
The image before the last one looks great, nice tones and lighting in. The last picture is more accomplished on a lot of points, but I regret that you made the invisible field visible in it.
Just my opinion of course. What I really like in your idea is the weirdness of the entity.
Since the beginning I imagine being on the side of the 2 characters on the left, wondering what the hell is that thing we found (maybe like in "the Thing").
So I think the more you keep some mystery about the this creature, the more interresting it will be.
In other words, I think it's better if the characters wonder if there is a magnetic field around it than if they know there's one. You see?

Keep on working so well! I definitely know now you were lying when you said at the beginning you were only lucky with the arm!
You're damned talented buddy!
:applause: :applause: :applause:

04 April 2004, 04:05 PM
Brainstorm aproaching!.. Nah just kidding. Another spiderleg failure :surprised:

Anyway thanks londero and Squibbit and frood!

Seems like all my good initial ideas are bad according frood :applause: but after that magic happens right? Can it happen twice with the same pic.

I have been thinking of that energy field thing, but of course you would see the imprint of the field in the water even if it would be invisible. Frood guess i was hoping an easy solution. Since drawing less and making the picture have more is only for super talented people. Im talking about talented people who are making superb computer art even when their computer is OFF! Man thats weird.

Maybe i was lying about the arm part, but other option is i have been having great luck with every evolution of my pic!

i'll try different solutions. *mantra* (less is more) *repeat x 1000*

05 May 2004, 09:22 AM (

Colors are slowly entering my picture. Im also trying to move the focus to the entity. Im keeping the pic in 2 separate layers one for focus effects and other for paint. So i still have a chance to make it sharper if needed.

05 May 2004, 01:15 PM
I have finally figured it out!

Im talking about the personality triangle and the happening in my pic! Yes ok here it comes.

My team meets an entity. Man decides to wave at the entity and urges the goblin to do so also, but goblin smirks at the entity. Entity gets red hot!

Yes :D *IM NO SHAKESPEARE*for heavens sake :arteest:

05 May 2004, 03:18 PM (

Well talk about luck! Anyway i used pretty flower as a photorefence base for that one. Im very pleased myself.

So heres some close up of my entity. I had to bring out the flesh theme more. So now it looks like that. Does it remind anybody like a soul calibur sword rip off? Hope not.

05 May 2004, 03:24 PM
i used pretty flower as a photorefence base for that one. Im very pleased myself.

Excellent , dude ! :bounce: :applause:

05 May 2004, 03:26 PM
Love the progress you make us witness(sorry my english isn't one of the best),really like the picture!!!
Just one little thing,is that maybe you can push a little bit further the contrast.
Amazing job man!!

05 May 2004, 03:35 PM

Thanx Squibbit  And OKMER

Anyway OKMER i'll think about the contrast and everything else later one. Just gotta have the shapes and overall colors. So you just have to wait for a while. Be patient or something :wise:

Im not going to bother myself with contrast since its pretty easy to adjust when everything else falls in their place.

05 May 2004, 04:43 PM (

So here is my base work for the guy. This is my second post because of the hacker mayhem. So just had to put this pic up again.

Thanx for all the people who replied to my thread, but are now gone.

05 May 2004, 12:30 PM (

Drawing humans is way too hard and time consuming. I'll concentrate on the background next to get some peace for my mind.

05 May 2004, 01:47 PM
I gotta say... I had my doubts about where this was going when I saw your first few concept sketches (lol). Now I can really begin to appreciate just how good you are! Man, there's so much talent out there... excellent stuff. keep it up!

05 May 2004, 10:11 PM
Hey I've know Falcor for some time and I had doubts about
where he's going . I don't think there was anyone that didn't ,

And with every update in this contest and with other works
outside it I'm like amazed of what he can do

keep up the excellent work , bro !

05 May 2004, 02:50 AM
The eye is glowing!!!

Visit My 2D Machineflesh Thread (

05 May 2004, 03:44 AM
Thanx for the replies artjunkie, Squibbit and cabertevon.

Artjunkie its ok that you have doubts because that makes two of us

cabertevon didnt actually try to make the eye to glow. That light is supposed come from the pillar on the right side of the pic. Guess i made the light too intense? Oh well im going to do some background work just to be able to do easy stuff next :D

05 May 2004, 04:52 AM
Very nice concept. The colouring is coming along great too! Can't wait to see more.

05 May 2004, 06:53 AM
nice developements very funny

05 May 2004, 04:29 PM (

Well seems like i went for even easier step. Tonal control! Hope you like it. It makes the pic look better, but step harder to keep up with it when coloring and doing artwork.

Thanx to all who has replied to my thread so far! Frood any magical help advices! :) ?

Anyway... Next the background work

05 May 2004, 04:35 PM
Argh!

I messed up my title chain! Why did i put such a title ..

I have also noticed that at my home this pic looks so dark and at work this looks like it is lacking contrast and everything.

Be brave and comment does the pic look to have too much colors or anything? So i can think of ways to improve or adjust monitor.

Also click the pic to view the actual pic. Since seems like this thread blurs up with gray most of the parts.

05 May 2004, 11:12 PM
THIS IS LOOKING SOOO GREAT. As I start to see the little details pulling out I can't wait to see more ;}

K so - I really like that sort of outward forfeild type-thing in your earlier one around the alien, but it's not there anymore! the detail on the thing is looking cool, and the force field doesn't have to be AS strong as it was, but it might be something to consider to keep some evidence of it ads motion and explains the water swirl a bit..... ;} Can't wait to see more!

05 May 2004, 05:36 PM
Thank you very much Shinwa

I was talking about making the background next, but it seems like i got no ideas for it. Besides if im going to run out of time in case of emergency cropping... Well i just made plans for it so heres a bit update to get my entity look yet another step closer to polished look.

update! :wip:

05 May 2004, 05:39 PM (

More work on the entity itself.

05 May 2004, 05:50 PM
ohhh kool it looks like a big detonator. Can i hugz it haha

05 May 2004, 06:02 PM
Sure you can hugz it if you want! It wont bite. Since im not sure where to put the mouth!

Actually the mouth is supposed to be inside that green thingy at lower part of it. :hmm:

05 May 2004, 06:14 PM
well ur work is great. i like it. actually i think theree could be more shadows and contrasts in da pic at all..especially at the backgorund. overall its very good.

05 May 2004, 05:13 PM (

This for people who have been waiting for contrasts. GeeNoc and friends who have hoped for better contrast.

Anyway. Making the contrast made me loose all the colors so now i have to try to invent how to make the come back.

I also cleaned up some shapes and i made the contrasts by creating another lighting pass. Of course in black and white. Well im famous for backassed techniques.

05 May 2004, 08:13 PM
Woow! This looks good! I hope you find your way back to some color..
But, its realy, realy, nice in black/white to!

05 May 2004, 09:04 PM
I loved the contrast in PB!!!

keep the excellent work man!

Force!

my entry (

05 May 2004, 09:24 PM
really looking good.. but u have to do what looks good for u... if u think that its not that impressive, then u can turn it one step back to its older version. Anyway thats very good

05 May 2004, 10:28 PM
Looks interesting and indeed very unique working method you have. :D
The colors works very nicely. Lots of Interesting variations are going on.

Peukat pystyyn! :)

05 May 2004, 05:27 PM
Isabelle, londero , GeeNoc , TeemuR

I really really like what you say. Hope i dont have to pay you that promised 100 euro per positive comment i was talking bout  just kidding.

Im really strugling with the color work. I have no idea what will become of my piece, but one thing is for sure. Alas there is no update this time. Just wanted to thank you people.

GeeNoc i have actually made the lighting one step even harder and real. Im going to stay with it. If the colors will continue to stay horrible. Well then ill change my title from Bujercon lab incident ... to ... picture that almost had colors *sigh*

Sharp eyed people have also noticed that the goblin's second arm is gone. Easy solution for hard problem. Also if the human will have horrible face well ill just put a scuba mask on him. So you can see if it was horrible failure from the final pic when the challenge is over.

05 May 2004, 02:02 AM
hey bro , arms and legs of creatures can wait , finish
the rest of the pic first , then do the face of the dude an
the leg of the goblin .

If you think you don't have the time then you don't and
if later on you find out that you do then you change the
mask on the face to just face or whatever.

the whole matters , not a few details ... unless the details
are crucial , yes ? heh

05 May 2004, 12:09 PM
thanks for your comment dude :)
this is realy impressive to see how you work.
i thought my concept (the 1st scribbles on some piece of paper where no one except me cant figure out what it is) paintings were messy but hey you won :D ;)
but what you made out of it is realy stunning.
waiting for the colours coming back ;) :)

05 May 2004, 05:22 PM (

There some colors. Now i wont be going to back to black & white. And i wont be adding anymore elements in my pic. Therefore final coloring stages have begun!

My aim is to do cleanup and final shapes. Also fix some horrid coloring.
Dont know will i be changing that water effect. It looks pretty tame and useless at the moment.

Thanx everybody for them replies.

05 May 2004, 06:09 PM
Go on friend !

It's begining more interesting each time I come !! Draw as you feel, details.... you feel it guy, just follow the pleasure of drawing...just do what is good for THIS picture, what is really usefull, what is not...................easy to say, I know! What you don't like in this picture, erase it ! What you like, enhance it and go in that direction..

Anyway...I'm a fool ! Keep up, it's a gonna be great !

And btw, thx so much for your super comments on my thread:thumbsup:

humpf !

05 May 2004, 01:34 PM
...really glad that the piece is now coming together. I might not have understood them, but i liked your early sketches and the later developments are really looking good.

I look forward to the next stage

Kepp on with the image -there's light at the end of the tunnel and its getting brighter all the time.

06 June 2004, 03:52 PM (

Coming soon!
heres and extreme close up!
17 days to go!

Still fixing up the background.. Deciding about DOF effects drawing that human face. Lots of messed up distorted shapes left.

Propably not going to touch that entity
face area that much

06 June 2004, 04:01 PM
Master goli in my thread!

Thanx for the support MrFreeman :) light is not going to get any brighter than that, but its getting closer.

Lots to go, but it is starting to look decent enough against all the superb artists contributing here. As the crunch time closes up people are turning up with amazing stuff. That includes everybody!

No way i can get it more cleaned up. Just fixing the shapes.

06 June 2004, 04:09 PM
Nice work, I like your style:bounce:

06 June 2004, 04:16 PM
Thanx 0-2

Quite messy style huh? I havent erased once. Always adding stuff and painting over it. So even all the mistakes add to the pic and i do have lots of mistakes to use! :applause:

Okey i'll admit i might have erased twice or more few hundred times or thousands maybe.

But thats the principle not to erase hope someday ill master it.

06 June 2004, 07:38 PM
There is things which are very very interesting here ! Very GOOD things. You said a lot of nice worlds on my thread but, me...I don't know painting like you do, mixing with art so many colors...

Thanks goli
Its great to have you here. Maybe youre not using as much as color as me because youre using just the right amount

I decided to send another update. Face is still missing! Im going to stop defining shapes. Just making the overall messy look everywhere in equal portions.

So this is my final coloring update. Next one might be the final image.. or close up of somewhere.

I also decided not to use DOF effects at all. Viewer can decide where to look at. Face and minor tweaks.. Then its done! I want this one finished already.

06 June 2004, 08:19 PM (

This is my backup concept in case of some accident. Hopefully this is not any abuse to send it in? Please delete it if so. People have been sending concept sketches of amazing quality i felt bad with my start on my Bujercon lab incident. Bit goli style i think?

Yes Thousand arm man.. legendary fighter who has been roaming around with some sort of machine enhanced arm.

Best fighter, Best passion, unstoppable

I just couldnt bring myself to draw that face on bujercon lab incident. Next weekend this all will end. My picture will be finished. I want to discard it already.

06 June 2004, 08:32 PM
:) hey it's looking better all the time

I like the lighting additions and the way you've painted the water...

Don't worry about the face...inspiration always arrives just in time

I'm havintg a few problems myself on my entry:thumbsup:

06 June 2004, 04:00 PM (

Heres an update.. Gruesome twosome upclose! Yes he seems like a mutant.. so now i have goblin, mutant and entity.

I have to say i already had the hair done! but my computer just shut itself off! Maybe it was the heat or the sun coming from window.. As a religious backuper i was able to save this version. Yup finally my 9Gigs of backup data was kinda usefull.

Wait more ill finish the pic just going to use all the time still left.

I urge everybody to start pouring crap all over me! *only here in the forum* so dont go all literal

That means hard evil critic is welcome!
Im allready working at my max skill level so dont go expecting anything grand fix ups .. Just let me know if theres something you really dislike in it.:wip:

Thanx MrFreeman for the support :wavey: I hope you finish you pic!
You see that i had to change the view for the head for fixed profile view. Since its easier.

06 June 2004, 06:52 PM
Love the style!!

Not sure about the mans face though...

Perhaps try lowering the mouth a little bit. Would make him look more determined.

06 June 2004, 08:38 PM
okay , bro , maybe work on the entity a bit more ?

maybe add more detail and color to the top section and
make a few more fleshy spots (or make the existig ones
more evident... ever seen Jeff Easley's "lair of the live ones ?")
and add slime and dripping fluids ?

yea and that dude's face too ..minor fixing , yes ?

anywho , good work

06 June 2004, 03:24 AM
Thanx guys for the reply!

E.T good point, but i have to say i want him to look unsure. I bet you would look like it when seeing something like that.

Squibbit maybe ill add flesh to some areas of the entity which have been unclear for me.

I really wish i could draw better face for that guy.. guess i need heavier photoreffing for that one. I hope i do them changes not just think about it.

Heres more of the Bujercon lab incident story.

This is Bujercon lab hazard team number 10 .. Which consist of irregular amount of members which must work in pairs to secure the area and do damage assestments.

Its pretty obvious there have been a wet lab incident.

So that man is trying to act all cool when faced with the entity, he succeeds somewhat in it.

Nice work Falcor.....(thanks for your comments, by the way!)

I like what you are doing with this....the only comment i have for some direction is what you are touching on already. The cool blue light casting warm coloured shadow will play a big part in this piece really gelling. I believe it'll help harmonize, and sit comfortably on the eye. It's going to be a really nice piece of work.

Good luck

Thank you very much Paul

Thanx to everybody for the great support! I have reached the state where my picture is equally messy all around so..

im uploading my final piece now!

Maybe some people and me thinks it should have been worked a little bit more, but this is where it all stops now!

Ive learned lots of techniques for my future artworks so lets hope they will be getting better than this :) And this is my best artwork ever! :bounce:

150kb JPG picture will be scaled to 1024 pixels wide for maximum pleasure

Uhm yes i think its time to stop. Hopefully i wont be feeling sorry for my decision.

yi... i guess you've decided to finish before deadline.

[i can see what you mean by colouring problems...]

hrm... looks to me like you had a much clearer idea of the design elements than i did... its clear that you had elemetns you wanted with the project and you stuck with it...

[compared to me on that, I was TOTALLY horrible...]

one comment tho. i do think that even though this is a scifi thing, and your dealing with orcs, cyborgs and crazy brain creatures, that you still have to have to exercise with some visual cues in there that call for real life elements...

anatomy, weight, posing... i mean yes, its a goblin, but he still has to follow laws of perspective and utilize articulations that beyond baroque, have to function... same with the bicep and head of the big dude...

I dunno... it just seems to me that the "Fantastical" elements of the drawing and the characters have little correlation to REAL life for me to be drawn in... to have the overall effect of enough realism to accept the composition

[pah.. baroque.. mcfarlane pissed me off with that whole bit... baroque without any regard for function and form... dammit anatomy is important]

for example, his bicep should... well... when that big... fall off. so mb its cybernetic... the goblin for example.. there are just elements to the way the muscles articulate that my eye doesn't want to accept as functional...

oh well.. at least your done... i don't know if i'm going to at this rate.... :P

rock on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

06 June 2004, 05:22 AM
Im not very sure what are you talking about, but when it comes to elements of real life. Well i think that my man has pants and shirt on and as well this looks bit like a corridor from somewhere.

I hope. Im always open for suggestions of how this one could have been better, but it doesnt help me a lot to know there is a problem, but not giving any solution for it.

Yes i completed my work before the deadline.. I wouldnt have any time for it. Besided there always comes a point when the art just starts to look different not any better. Maybe i should have used different perspective. Or different background.. But doing such overhaull on the pic would be insane as it would actually mean drawing another picture from scratch.. So i hope you like what i have achieved.

Next time im going to deliver high end line art! Thats for sure:bounce:

Thank you MrFreeman! Salute to you and everybody who has been here in my thread. :wavey:

Competition has finally ended! So how can i start voting! Can i give only one vote? How will the voting work?

:wavey: To all competitors :wavey:

:applause: Good to see your piece finished Falcor....

it has really come on since initial sketches and you should be pleased with the results. This competition is a chance for us all to improve our skills and if we have learnt from others and happy with what has been achieved, then that is all that matters....

As far as realism, as long as you believe what you see or can understand it, then anything goes...your work has a lovely quality, so good luck and see you in the next CG Networks challenge...:applause:

there , all done , buddy , good job !

good luck in the voting !

Nice final, don't sweat the getting sick of it and what not - btw.
you DID A SUPREME Job and you put a lot of work in it....I love the water detail under the lab thing, and I love all your texturing and such. VERY interesting to look at! GOOD LUCK IN THE CONTEST!! :bounce: And I hope to see you around and at the next one!

07 July 2004, 04:06 PM
Thanx Shinwa! Very nice words
Oh my water might look nice when its scaled down to small pic, but in the final tiff everything will reveal their true forms and uh well not so good there.

I'm glad that youre one of those few who actually made it and got finished with your artwork! Nice transparencies in your work. I wish you will be in the next challenge. Bet you have learned a lot! huh? :)

Actually im already waiting more for the next challenge than the voting! Sounds mad, but heck im already amped and ready for the next one.. Just wondering what will the topic be all about? Still id wish this voting part to stop soon and see all these wonderful results people got.
