View Full Version : Game Art Comp 6: Kakihara: ICHI the killer

I figured i'd claim it. Now, let's see if i get around to it.

"Kakihara is one of the most despicable, but truly unforgettable heavies you'll ever seen in a film"

Nice choice!
I loved this film!

Hope you can capture his dodgy clothes and girly hair.
Dont forget the animatable 'mouth flaps' for fist eating and smoke blowing....

ooooooo! You GOTTA give him an rigged head so you can see his teeth like in the movie. Awesome choice!

03-24-2004, 04:27 AM
by "see his teeth" do you mean just when he took out the rings and his mouth opened really big?

Yeah, that was something i was debating on. It really is what makes the character in some essence, but then again, that's a lot more polys and riggin and crap. Well see. Most liekly i will, if i follow through with this.

I really wanted to captrue the essence of his shiney purple jacket too, i think that is gonna be the HARDEST part of this character.

Yea If you could allow the model to open its mouth wide enough that he could eat a man's fist like in the movie. Yea that would be alittle extra work, youd have to model his teeth and give him a jaw bone to open and close his mouth. Maybe if you have some time towards the end you should give him his trademark. =)

Here is how i'm gonna do the mouth.

Right now the red line shows how far i plan on letting the mouth open. I will probably do the teeth and inside of the mouth last, that way i know how many polys i have.

An update:
Proportions look good to you guys?

I'm kinda unsure here, which i need advice. I know the contest ALLOWS 4000 polys, but does that mean i should feel the need to use them all? I mean it looks pretty close to Ichi now doesn't it? Saying there is no texturing.... it's like less than 3000 now.
I will probably add some more to the bottom of the coat, and to the face... but i don't know where else i would even really need to use the polys.

Lemme know what you think.

Sweet choice Neil.

Hmmn... proportions seem okay. Could you possibly post a front, side and back view? Might help...

nice choice of character, ichi would be a pretty cool charater too with his sort of 'superhero' kit on

I think you should should use as mucho polies as possible in the face to get a close resemblance to the actor. So if youve got any to spare, put them in there. The face is the most recognizable feature of a movie star, and since it will be viewed from lots of angles in the game, you need to get the shape as right as possible. And this requires a lot of polies.

The eyes and mouth could do with more polies for example. This way your morph targets would work out better as well.

neil: your choice is a great one.

maybe widen his nose and mouth slightly. his mouth is the key characteristic that makes this guy stand out, so make sure it hits the viewer right away.

other than that...goodluck and godspeed

Its coming along now, neil...

im a bit concerned about the amount of sections on his coat - especially on the flappy bits - it might look a bit iffy when rigged and deformed - if you have any polys to spare, add some to his clothes. His shoes seem a bit odd too. Tweak the shape some more, and maybe shrink his head and neck a bit.

Really nice hair - should look good when textured.

keep it up - not long left now!

I finally fiinished laying out the UVs :)

Here is a VERY rough texture job, just mainly slapped photos on.

Don't just watch it on impulse though. It's very violent and probably not for everyone. But if you like movies that shock you, then i do recommend it. Just not exactly something you watch with your parents or girlfriend.

here is what i did last night.
still got a ways to go.

Oh man I had to come lookin for this after I saw it on the link on the frontpage.

As soon as I saw this I clapped and laughed! Great model of an awesome character from one of the coolest movies ive seen!

Always nice to meet another Ichi fan, great work!

See the movie Versus?

Good choice and good model...

One of the most original villains ever

I hope your model goes well. Just gotta say that I couldn't stand to watch that movie. Its probably the most violent movie I've ever seen.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Thanks for the comments guys, nice to see some interest in the model still.

I decided to finally crack down and finish this model. I got my other work temporarily out of the way.

I added some jacket wrinkles and some face contrast (maybe a 'little' more still on the face) and i still need to do the sleeves.
