I am calling this my concept sketch because it is my first sketch, however there is no difference from the sketch and the actual piece, aside from one being more refined. Anyway, as you can see I have already started in on coloring and refining it. I hope i am not disqualified for not fullfilling the requirements.

This is exactly the same as my concept sketch. Except this time it is my line drawing.

This is where i first started coloring him.

Good character
It's kinda terminator! :surprised
And what's the purpose of the Mechanical manipulation to this human being? :bounce:

Thanks, and yes I know,...he seems something in between Hugh the borg and the terminator,...but don't look at me, I didn't plan it that way! :p His cybernetic functions are there to enhance his combat effectivness. I figure he has some kind of laser eye thing, and the antenna thing is likely some kind of satellite uplink for targeting and general communications,...like 'i need a pint of 40wt and quick!' :D

here's the latest. he's looking yet more terminator like,...i'm thinking I may have to alter him somewhat.

Nice drawing, but I reminds me very much of the Borg from Startrek. Here is a picture of a Borg. Im sorry if it seems as though I am trying no knock your concept, Im actually saying it in your best interest.
03 March 2004, 03:40 AM
Thanks, I realize this, and am contemplating making some basic alterations to him, so that he will look more unique. Honestly though, i did not intend for him to look like a borg. I have been toying with this basic image since many years ago, when I read a comic called 'deathlok' that has made a reappearance recently I noticed. I suppose it is also possible that he was the inspiration for the terminator and the borg. Anyway, I intend to stick with the basic concept, typical though it may be, but i will try to find ways of de-generifying him.

Another thing you may wish to accomplish is using the bionics for a purpose. Why is he half-man, half machine? I think even a terminator-clone can be a really impressive entry if folks would give the character a new spin and a well-thought-out environment to play in. That's the trick, I think. Rather than just another pin-up.

Nice piece so far. I'm actually curious what's gonn abecome if it. When you change stuff arround and start finalyzing the skin and all.
About him looking like a borg. ...I dunno. People will tell you those things all the time, esspecially with this kind of subject matter. I know that rule and regulation said that it shouldn't look like the terminator, but I wouldn't worry about it just concentrate on changing him a bit so it doesn't that way you get people off your back. By the way It kicks ass so far.
If I may suggest something here: if you chose to do a portrait style of this guy, try n see if 3/4 view would be something you could explore.

I'm trying to get away from the terminator/borg look by humanifying him somewhat.
03 March 2004, 08:43 AM
Thanks for the comments guys. How do you like the more humanified version?
03 March 2004, 10:04 PM
I have started adding a background, and gave him a suit, which I think very much helps to subdue the borg/terminator effect. I think i may add a couple of aircraft in the background.
03 March 2004, 01:58 PM
very good, I like the new turn of things.. definetely the borgness is gone.. and because of him looking more like desert soldier now it also looks more original.
03 March 2004, 09:58 AM
Thanks basse, and since you were the one who originally pointed it out to me, I'll take that to mean he's good to go on the non borgness. Now all that's left is to tweak and detail, until my eyes turn to liquid and pour down my face from a cathode overdose.

Hi, thanks, I am glad you like my piece. I have been meaning to get back to it, but have been a bit busy. I really hope to get back to it soon though. Also, I may be putting up a 3D piece in the finished 3D forum, so keep an eye out for it, entitled 'the key of dreams'.
