View Full Version : Bumpmapping a sphere in CG

Hi. I need some help bumpmapping a sphere.
I have the original texture and the bump texture in dds format and a sphere-model in nvb format.
But here's the pickle: I don't know how to do the bumpmapping!
I've created an .fx file that works with the original texture, but I have no idea how to get the bump to work.

Btw, I'm using FX Composer if that helps, but I also have MS Visual Studio 6 set up to work with CG.

Thanks from a total newbie.

For information on how to do anything in Cg, I can highly recommend "The Cg Tutorial" by Randima Fernando and Mark J. Kilgard. It has a lot about Cg and to boot it has a whole chapter on bump mapping. While they don't explicitly describe bump mapping a sphere they do describe bump mapping a torus. The torus has a curved surface so it has a similiar problem as what you might run into with a sphere, where you need to do varying object space to texture space computations.
