Sorry for the so-quick sketch. My first idea was to show a progression of time with my Corporate work robot. Doing this by fading everything surrounding him from prehistoric to visions of the future. The ground, the walls, the objects in the room, to everything outside the big picture window behind him. The character himself's sole purpose is to pay the bills. His hands, feet, and head are all still intact, while his body is an oddly proportioned robot - hooked through wires (which during the fade from past-present will turn from wires to tubes) are connecting him with a small highly intelligent lifeform in a capsule (possibly his former self re-incarnate/cloned).
but thats just a first idea.

Hall-bot 6600 : crushing small children's hopes of going to the restroom since the 2320.
Think of this, you got you've had to go alll day, but your stuck in mrs. Finkelstein's class. You take a quick opportunity to sneak out - you start jogging to the bathroom and you think your home free. All of the sudden, Mrs F' notices your gone, and pushes a little red button on her desk. Mid-jog you stop, sirens turn on, your heart races ... and within an instant this rolling menace to childhood dreams comes down the hall. Without even a word (he doesnt have feelings anyway) he sends you straight to his office : he is the principal too, after all, and you've got yourself 6 lunch detentions. And all you wanted to do was pee!

Just a 15 minute sketch to see what it looks like with a bit of detail. Checking to make sure this idea is one I want to continue with.

I was just messing around tonight ... playing around with some things. This isnt the final composition or anything - but Im getting ideas while making it. This small scale doesnt do justice to the detail I have in it right now - and the detail that will be in the final one - but I am thinking about doing it in this cartoony style, just with more realistic textures ... and better lighting. But anywho - its a "I need ideas" version of it.
and theres no line art because Im drawing a line, then coloring, drawing a line, then coloring.
Tell me what you think so far :)

You say "No, that looks dumb, I dont want to finish it" ... and then you start working on it again for no darn good reason - thus is my problem with this image. I've tweaked a bunch of the little girl to add more detail, and now I put in a hand and started adding in some more detail.
In my defense, this is the first time I've ever worked with a scale so huge - Im used to playing around in nothing larger than 800x600 - this gives you so much more freedom and room for detail, but it also requires more physical drawing skill - and when your doing it with a mouse like me, its becoming more and more difficult.

I'd just suggest to define better the lineart before getting too many details painted. If you get ideas while making it, and one of them needs some changes in the composition, either you'll lose a lot of time redoing the stuff, or you'll just drop the idea..
Personnally I'd want to add a maximum of details in the lineart too, cause it makes painting details easier in hi-res (At least for me.. :)).
Pay attention to the shading too, like the face of the girl: this linear gradient makes her look flat. For example, more shadows for the nose and eyes, and for one side of the face can really help you defining the shape of the head. (I dont know if I sound clear.. :))
btw at this stage, the style could be well done in some vector program, it could give a clean look and you won't really have this image size confusion :)

I just wrote this big long post about my method and my reason for going about doing this this way - but cg talk was updating, so when I clicked to submit - it was lost.
Anywho, to sum that post up :
Thank you very much for the suggestions and help.
I work with so many layers that its not a big deal to sort of "build" it as I am doing.
Im not using a vector program because A) I dont know how and B)Im not going strictly cartoony, and I can do my vision all in photoshop.
My way of going about this is putting in all the "cartoony" layers in to give me a final look at the composition ... and then painting the heck out of it to make it look "neat." In the end I hope to end up with a bit of a unique style, unique composition, and unique idea.
I know about the shading, that will be fixed - in fact, I've done some more sketches, and I will put them up: the girl will be completely changed.
The finaly really isnt going to be crappy, I swear! Just stick with a newbie, and see into his weird mind.

I put the head in there so that I can cave in (Im stubborn) and check a reference image to make the glass its in look better. Its slowly turning out better than I thought was capable using my mouse. I know I wont win, so I guess Im gonna have to go out and buy a tablet so I can be awesome like the rest of you. (I know I have it in me.) More and more details are being added in.

Ok, I "finished" (it always changes when I add more details) one of the arm. Im pretty sure thats the direction I want to go with the arms. I also changed the head ALOT from my last version. Still have a lot of details to do on it. Im going to add details to the face tonight, and finish up the glass its in, and add more wires :)

Not many comments yet :( Is it turning out terrible?
The neck is now showing up ... if you can call it a neck. Its more like a tenticle with a suction cup/claw coming out of it. The robot is a very innovative design, allowing him to look around corners at free will (a necessity for any robot!)
I am liking the way its looking, and for my first try, turning out better than any small scale project I've ever done.
comments are appreciated, whether you like it or hate it.

OK, I Wanted to post a bigger version of my WIP, since the other only allows us to post 150kb images, and we're doing this in a 3000 + resolution. - SO, I put one up on this site to check out. It shows a bit clearer the detail, and what IM working on

Heres what I've done so far ... and my possible plan for the legs. I was going to go with a one-wheeled body, but dealing with this perspective, I decided the two legs would be more dramatic. Tell me what you think so far! (yes, it is supposed to be cartoony)

IM BACK! Of course, its not like anyone was watching mine anyway - But, after much frustration following a "flatten layers" incident, I am back to working, and actually pretty close to finishing up the main robot character. Just have to texture those legs, add more shadow, and voila! - next step will be the girl, followed by detailing the heck out of it. Critiques, anyone?

Looking good. I think your concept is so funny.
I'd like to see the detail you put into the face and character added ot other areas of the art piece.

:) With so many entries, I've tried to view them all, but yours must have slipped through the net....couldn't let you have only two replies....
I like what you've created so far - nice idea ..Great characters-
and I hope you don't need much sleep so we all get a chance to see the final image...

Ok ... is this lighting terrible? Would you rather see the final coloring one, or this as the final? PLEASE!!! I NEED YOUR INPUT!

if the source of light is from this bulb on the wall and only from there, I think that it should be more radial on this wall (not brighter but radial)
also it can be darker, depends what elements you want to point more,
