M@, fellah, Ila Thankyou all! I hope I won't dissapoint (especially the finishing part Anders  ) as I none of you guys have ever done so to me.

Concept number one, by no means the only one but the easiest to put down. Forgive me as I am quite ill at the moment and I'm not even sure I'll remember doing this tomorrow...

More to come (he says...)

03-17-2004, 10:22 PM
ignore - I am an idiot

03-17-2004, 10:24 PM
I can see it now: Gyrbils! "New 'concept pet' from Japan is sweeping the country ... and causing horrendous problems in the process."

"They can get up quite a head of steam, an' then they can lit'rally start bouncin' off a the walls."

03-17-2004, 11:04 PM
Hey AJ , if you finish this one I promise i'll finish too :)

03-19-2004, 02:07 AM
im off to ladbrokes, see if they'll give odds on you finishing it ;)

03-20-2004, 07:23 PM
Okay, I worked on some ideas today but given the three month deadline I decided to go for something a little more complicated than usual. Which - given that I can barely finish a challenge when my idea is a spoon in a cape - doesn't bode well.

Anyway, the concept isn't fully fleshed out but I've spent far to much time drawing this (made doubly difficult by using a Wacom instead of a pencil) and of course there's aspects missing. (

I envision a gruff old cow boy with a rifle for an arm and steam driven appendages, the complexity of which will depend on the time/enthusiasm I have.

C&C are an essential requirement of viewing this thread... :D

03-20-2004, 08:43 PM
Nooooo! I want the hamster!

03-20-2004, 09:21 PM
Very nice AJ.......I look forward to seeing this come into the 3D World.I say you go for full on complexity.....It will be well worth it.Very promising creation.go for it ,and go for it hard.Have fun.

03-20-2004, 09:35 PM
I vote for the hamster too !

03-20-2004, 09:36 PM
nice idea! but it has so much more possibilities. I think you should try to come up with a few more crazy ideas(which should be easy with such a crazy brain as yours ;) )

you said he was a little steam driven.. maybe a big "oven" in his stomach(where you put all the wood) and.. a "steam pipe" in his.... euh.. ears.. maybe put the "steam clock"(darn.. so many strange english words I dont know..) at the place of his heart..
and I think you should exaggerate a few parts to make him more interesting.. the hat for example.. very big, small.. or just high?
maybe a really big gun, or.. very small. his gun can tell us more about his personality.. maybe a water gun? nah.. to easy.. but maybe something else.. shoot.. euh.. whiskey maybe! :) ) maybe a horse leg, or something even crazier..?
just try to incorporate something more interesting to him and it will be killer!!

03-21-2004, 01:46 PM
Run hamster run!!

But i'm disconcert, well, where are batteries !?
I saw your second sketch very good, i like design.

Now you have a hard choice.

03-21-2004, 03:26 PM
we want the hamster....:bounce:

Bastard!!! (j/k ...of 'course)

03-21-2004, 05:01 PM
Bah! You all like the hamster! :surprised :p

I'm afraid that he's going to have to sit on the shelf for this one. Sorry. (Hairy things are a pain in the arse when you don't have the plugins!), but here's one of my other doodles of him for those who will miss his presence in this thread...

fellah - as always your critique and advice is spot on. I am incorporating nearly everything you've suggested! I'm sorry the sketch is a little dull/devoid of detail but I was so sick of looking at it that I just couldn't be arsed to add any more. My new design has him with a 'chimney hat' and a 'stove stomach', (I still need to think about his leg & gun/arm more). I might just get started with the model and see how it develops from there.

03-21-2004, 05:04 PM
cant wait to see this all rendered up
i too had a hamster idea but dropped it due to the fur/hair and the probs it would cause me during rendering

i also like the cowboy but the hamster is way better

03-21-2004, 05:06 PM
Hamster's got some potential, fun for a while. But the dude has more depth by a long shot.Stomach stove is a first.

03-21-2004, 07:14 PM

It's very nice, your hamster.
But I've never seen a hamster with a tail like this!

It's to long!!!

03-21-2004, 07:26 PM
Aha - the tail is an exhaust pipe... although I admit that it's not very clear

Welcome to Cgtalk btw :D

03-21-2004, 07:30 PM

I'm sorry, but it wasn't really clear for me!

Thanks to welcome me

03-21-2004, 11:04 PM
hey AJ23.................Those are some great suggestions by fellah.......He knows his stuff that bastard....;)

I was thinking you can create some extra arms.....machine arms, arms made special for quick draws.......Possibly hidden under the coat,an extra pair, bot type parts etc,etc...and when needed they pop out as fast as Clint's in the Good bad and ugly......;)

Anyways cool potential,I think it will be great to see come to life in 3D.......

03-23-2004, 04:55 PM
Freakin the future cowboy theme. :buttrock:

03-23-2004, 05:01 PM
Cool cowboy!
Great concept! I really waiting to see this one in 3D!

I am just thinking of it right now!
Sephia tones in an empty dirt road with shrubs moving around and the camera looking throughout open legs if you know what I mean! :)

03-31-2004, 04:53 PM
lol so funny !!! I like the hamster :D + :bounce:

Update? Bah!

There is precious little time to model when ceilings need painting, the sink leaks and there's no carpet...

Gosh owning property is exciting isn't it...?

04-17-2004, 10:58 PM
A massage from inside of the MATRIX:

"What are those you named?"

04-20-2004, 10:00 PM (

Nothing too exciting (or indeed machinefleshy), but due to harassment and a miniscule amount of free time - here's my start on the Cowboy's head.

From Concept to modelling in just 1 short month! *ahem* Sorry.

He needs a lot more work, namely much more wrinkled/haggered skin, more detailed features/eyes and the bushy moustache of a man of Justice.

Since this is quite a "Here's my model!" posts, I'll printscreen some of the steps to keep in with the WIP guidelines of the challenge.

Anyway, for those who like wires, there's one here:

04-20-2004, 10:18 PM
Here's some the WIPs on the head so far:

04-21-2004, 08:47 AM
Nice start AJ, nice to someone starting with a sphere for once, your initial loops are exactly the same as when I start a head...

Great character in the face!

04-21-2004, 08:52 AM
yeah thats a great start , love the modeling!, good luck for the rest man!ill be following this one:buttrock: :bounce:

04-21-2004, 10:43 AM

04-21-2004, 07:07 PM
realy great start (about time  )...looks very cool and very pissed off

04-21-2004, 07:54 PM
Such a good looking head - - - and with tons of style as well - not that I would expect anything else from the AJ dude of course... dammit... :D

04-23-2004, 02:57 PM
with your lack of time, you choose to make a realistic looking man with alot of character and wrinkles and weapons and .. :D
but it looks good so far! though you have alot left to do :p

04-23-2004, 05:56 PM
Ah - I never said I wasn't an idiot...

04-23-2004, 06:17 PM
Yeah, remain lots of work to do... This stuff has quality.

Ah - I never said I wasn't an idiot...

Then most of us are idiots...:wavey:
