I'm waiting, too ! c'mon !

Good luck

03 March 2004, 01:59 AM (

This is my first idea: the girl doesn't have arms nor legs... instead, has a set of mechanical arms and legs, or weapons, or fusion, for some needs... (I'm workin' on it..) and lives in a world which enemy is the I.A. so, the human being has to be strong or run away!

Probably I'm repeating the same of always (the girl...)...(Trillado)

So, I have 3 months.. I hope I'll decide soon what to do. When that day of inspiration arrives on my head, will be my happy day and I won't rest until the end.

The end.

p.d. forgive my bad english

03 March 2004, 07:57 AM
The arm looks really good. the idea is nice she can have arms for legs and legs for arms. :)

Mucha suerte.

03 March 2004, 08:32 AM
The idea looks good to me. However You could take a bigger risk so she won´t end up looking like some kind of terminator.

P.S: No te preocupes por tu Inglés. Vas bien.

03 March 2004, 10:21 AM
Adriana, don't worry about inspiration. You know what Picasso used to say about that: "la inspiración llega, pero tiene que encontrarte trabajando"...

03 March 2004, 10:29 AM
I think you've got a good idea here, with different body part that you can change. You should work more on this one.

03 March 2004, 01:50 PM
i loved the sketch u made good body and real good starting point
ur style of drawing is clean u must only find the good day to have the good inspiration and go on!!!!
good luck and good inspiration:drool:

04 April 2004, 05:43 PM
Have You posted anything else besides the sketch??
Espero que si. Suerte.:)

04 April 2004, 05:21 PM (

Hi all! thanks for your comments

Well, this is the idea: In the near future the society in it's need of specialization, requires workers that work 24 hours a day, don't waste time goint to bath or lunch...
So, the knowledge isn't enough, the human being has to be modified because the rivalry is too high...

This changes have to adapt (fusion) to the special enviroment of the jobs..

So, this lady is a... hacker... will need advanced arms to work faster (will have nitinol) an it's brain has to work in a parallel way (many thinking threads)... 'cause the systems need to constantly adapt to attacks and spying from other companies, and why not, to spy and attack others..

She will have a xtrange station work that will maintain her alive and will link her to many systems...

Of course, this won't be the line art, just details of head.. soon I'll post more about her body and environment.

Comments, complaints and reclaims...

04 April 2004, 05:37 PM
I like this second sketch

04 April 2004, 12:59 PM
me too
and it's good starting point
go on

04 April 2004, 03:27 AM
Great work!!
Keep ut !

04 April 2004, 05:20 AM
The second sketch is great, but don't dismiss the arm/leg concept too quickly. I think it had a lot of merit as well. Maybe a fusion of the two . . .

04 April 2004, 02:43 PM (

Just an study ... testing colors...

Dozak: you are right. I was thinking that in normal life she has a set of mechanic legs an arms, but at work (depending on the work)... she has to take them off to be plugged into the station where she will have another kind of sophisticated arms... (I will do some concept scketches about this)

Sorry for the high frequency of my publications  In this days my inspiration is coming out, so I'll catch it..

All comments are welcome.

04 April 2004, 06:14 PM
the colors seems to be working fine.. :)

04 April 2004, 05:12 PM

05 May 2004, 07:41 AM
Looks like your concpet is progressing well the last sketch seems to be a lot more resolved, looks really interesting. Cant wait to see what you do with it, in your line work and colours. Keep it up.

05 May 2004, 06:58 PM
clock is ticking... :scream:

I will develop the last concept sketch, but I'm not convinced about the story..

So, I'll just let the drawings flow and after I'll think in some explanation...

Some help and advices are welcome :D

05 May 2004, 01:40 AM (

a progress in the sketch

05 May 2004, 01:49 AM (

With some kinda arms..

05 May 2004, 01:58 AM
Well, I'm desperate for getting to colors!! :bounce:

So, I'll start coloring from now, and in the way, maybe I'll add details to the image. :scream:

05 May 2004, 04:20 PM
ok, I feel I don't like my sketch and story.
I've got another explanation with some changes in the drawing (soon, the remake, we all only have 3 weeks!!! )..

Let's say, the same world. There is an eccentric Biomechanical engineer that has applied his knowledge to a new artistic movement (living-connection), so, in his art exhibitions there are installations that uses insubordinated workers that prefer to be toys than slaves..

His art is around the world, some of this creations are above important buildings, mountains, under the sea...

And talking about the bio art-piece of his art, it's maintained alive thanks to the machine art-piece, that has different accessories to make more artistic the dynamic parts. Some times their minds are manipulated to express some feelings acording to the artist intentions.:arteest:

05 May 2004, 07:17 PM (

resuming my last post:

When the audience comes to see the piece of art, this gets prepared to
a choreography (which demands high mechanic control) whose purpose is
exhibit the new world symbiosis: the human being beyond his boundaries
the machine full of life and sensitivity.

05 May 2004, 12:19 AM (

mmm. line art.. it probably will disappear in the color process..

05 May 2004, 11:55 PM (

Playing with colors...

I did this last night, this is the first time I try to do something seriously, All comments are welcome!

06 June 2004, 12:12 AM
Nice colors, especially the yellow/mauve contrast. What about the background and the global lighting of the scene ?

Thanks for your comment!

I wonder the same...
Taking up again the last story behind the scene, I said this could be above a skyscraper, like an emblematic living art... and since I won't draw any building below... the background could be a bombastic warm cloudy sky...

about the lighting.. I'm crazy about the lights :arteest:! maybe 'cause I said this is a kinda installation... let's say they are somewhere else... But really I'm not sure... I'll work on that...

This night I'll post an alternate lighting... All comments are really welcome!

06 June 2004, 11:52 PM (

Testing again the colors...

warm vs. cold

06 June 2004, 03:23 AM (

just an idea...

06 June 2004, 03:25 AM (

more background..

about the girl.. I'll work on her later..

06 June 2004, 12:42 PM
Looking good. Only thing I noticed is with the blue colouring, the light source from the bottom is gold so those clouds should be golden and the light from above should be blue.

Added to this is the fact that at the moment the contrast between the skin and the background clouds is stunning so don't change them, just the bottom is off.

06 June 2004, 08:07 AM
Nice work!
I'm very exited to see the final picture.
Keep on working as you do!

06 June 2004, 08:35 AM
Really nice
That's getting better and better.
I'm waiting for the next update !

I agree with that. This could enhance the overall volumetric effect.
Keep the contrast between background and foreground.:applause:

06 June 2004, 02:47 PM
Thank you guys for your comments!

about the light source from the bottom, I'll work on that this night, thanks for your suggestions

Well, I've thinking about the outstanding work of many competitors, and I wonder why I remain on this! so, I had the next deductions:

- It's easier to run away, so, I won't
- I'm having fun!!! and learning tons from everybody!
- It's amazing to be part of a great community of artist around the world!
- Well, I'm trying to be an artist, definitely it's what I love! (I'm a programmer right now), and with all your help and support (in this contest, in the next ones...) I hope I'll grow up in this field...

So, as you can see, all your comments are so important to me :D

06 June 2004, 09:26 PM (

an advance..

06 June 2004, 01:05 AM

Have you given up ? You shouldn't. This was really getting good. There is so few ladies in this contest, you can add your own vision among all those mecanized guys.... ;-)

06 June 2004, 08:20 AM
 Your image is really coming along....i really love the lighting on the figure and face...and look forward to seeing how the machine elements turn out...

keep the WIPs coming:applause: :applause:

Wow, thank you guys for posting here and give me encouragement!

-> ganta :: About the idea.. the workers are in fact slaves, 'cause the work use to be hard (24 hours a day, seven days a week) and they are maintained alive thanks to the machines, besides the mech is the tool for working.. but there are renegade workers that an artist exploit for making living pieces of mech-art. They prefer to suffer this kind of loneliness, but have the dignity of drive their minds..
-> londero :: que chévere que te guste mi ilustración! espero aprender de todos y ojalá vivir de lo que me gusta.. pintar
-> spacesnail:: thanks for your comment, I'll try to do my best and shape my thoughts on this pic until the end
-> MrFreeman :: I'm suffering a bit with the machine elements.. I hope I'll improve them along the wips

06 June 2004, 11:55 PM
I haven't mentioned this before and I don't know if I should.. but I want to talk about the tool I'm using..

1. I think probably I'm the only one that uses.. Corel photo-paint...
I don't know why I haven't tried photoshop.. some day I will.. :surprised
2.The background is the color and the object (layer) is the drawing (multiply)..
3. I wanna use Painter but is too heavy, so, I decided to color as far as I can in corelpp, merge the layer and try painter.. with no layers, just over the pic..

06 June 2004, 11:58 PM
This image is getting powerfull. The only thing I have to crit is the tummy. To masculine, I think.

Keep up!!

06 June 2004, 02:20 AM (

I'll try to make disappear the lines..

now the body...

06 June 2004, 04:15 AM (

an advance in the arm things...

I'm asleep! I'm doing this at night.. I hope I can end this pic on time..

06 June 2004, 04:30 PM
I really like this one. The style reminds me of Patrick Woodruffe, a classical 70ish illustrator. Don't know if you're familiar with his work, but it's great stuff that you should check out.

06 June 2004, 04:46 PM
Wow

You're work is coming along really nice !!

keep it up !!

06 June 2004, 05:26 AM (

Well, tomorrow I can't paint.. so, I must end with this right now...

06 June 2004, 05:32 AM (

this is the end... :´(

06 June 2004, 05:36 AM
I will upload the tiff right now.. I can't work more on the image cause meantime the dead line arrives, I'll be at work (programming java...)

Thanks to all who wrote to me!:D

I have fun doing this illustration..:bounce:

godspeed to all of you!

06 June 2004, 12:51 AM
Probably none will read this, but I want to express that I'm sad!!

After the challenge ended, I viewed the entries in the 2D and 3D section and there's a lot of promising and awesome work without the final image!!! They couldn't end!!!!

Well, I suppose they won't be considered even for voting, but the talent will remain !!

Someone had this note.. I don't remember it but is something like this:

"The artist is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work" (Emile Zola (?))

mmm. thinking it well, I'm happy :D

06 June 2004, 05:00 PM

you have some talent you can be proud of .
And you're right there will be lacking a lot of beautiful picture. Anyway, I hope there will be other contests to show such talented artists.
And after all, you don't really need a contest to go on drawing and painting.

Good luck and yes, be happy

06 June 2004, 12:09 PM
I discover your thread only now...
I especially love the face of your character.
I like the colors and lighting too.

Good luck !

06 June 2004, 07:30 AM

You are cool…you are an illustrator and a Java programmer not to mention that you already created a game… man… you must be proud of yourself.

Here…keep this in your pocket “A positive attitude keeps the fire burning... now get some more wood”.

BTW, thank you in advance for sharing to me your J2ME notes.

Godspeed and thank you for being so nice.

love how you've captured the expression of sadness in this piece..

great work!

06 June 2004, 04:20 PM
-> Nathaniel West :: thanks for your post! I've been checking out about Patrick Woodruffe, I found a comment about 'his vivid use of colour', I like that, in fact I lately tend to play with colors - I'm painting some acrylics, none has seen them, non matte colors -.

-> Newke, spacesnail :: thanks for your support!

-> cabertevon ::  hehe, thanks for the compliments, any help on J2ME, just write to me!

-> Deadly Force, Versiden :: thanks! I'll post a close-up of the face

06 June 2004, 04:35 PM

the pic don't show , not on my computer , anyways . Luckily
there was a closeup of the face on the earlier pages , nice work ,
emotion well captured .

their pictures in time .
It's very sad if they didn't make it cause I would've wanted them in the

Hey, I just want you to know that I love your piece, the expression is VERY strong, and I love the kind of texture you ended up with. Good work! I am only sorry I didn't have more time to critique everybodies stuff I was looking at during the competition.
