Yeah, almost 7 full days took to render all...
... on 1.6 intel / 512 ram hehe...
IMO it's not so bad really, it's a big image, many polys,
tough shaders,... actually, I'm pretty satisfied.
Thanks for the interest swag.

Cygnus_X: thanks

06 June 2004, 04:58 PM
Arrgh... 7 days o_O Now THAT'S what I call loooooooong render times.

Anyways, it looks like it too! That is, amazing and shockingly great - a job well done... and the final will come any day now I assume...

Top notch, Daniel, top notch!

06 June 2004, 05:42 PM

now verry sorry long time ago i reads the concept story so
i goes crazyevilverykindly and just comment on what i see
in that last render

bring out mama fishcreature slightly , or parts of it , you know
some color maybe ... glowy things ... rust .. something

make chimneys a bit more detailed ... smoke stains ... acid
rain stains .. wear .. thinner and thicker sections... smaller pipes
running on the chimney surface..

water in front is just... clear ? weird... how about slighty
translucent ? no ? oily ? something :)

a bit more slime ... maybe from egg to egg but still on ground..
couple more detail objects in front machine parts..or
slime puddle.. maybe in mid front yet another slice of a blurred
egg ?

also , maybe a slight , nearly invisible thin trail of smoke or dust
or something between the mama fish and the eggs ?

hmm .. I looked at the pic again and it's pretty cool already , heh

06 June 2004, 06:22 PM
@JamesMK: It will never change - more power will make
you/me put more polys, displacements, more "photon" lights
into scene - so render times will stay more or less the same...
...dough there are some very cool things happening,
with shaders doing geometry, optimizing subdivisions on the fly, etc...
surely it's getting better and better...
btw, glad you like!

@Squibbit: Thanks for giving me more work to do:D !
But you are 100% right. All that you have said is what bugs
me for days exactly. I guess I won't finsh tonight after all...yet
I can not do much more....
Thanks for the great input, some of it will be done...

06 June 2004, 06:40 PM
squibbit's got some good suggestions, but i'd say the main one would be to do something to bring more attention onto the mother fish... glowing eye... some color somewhere...

06 June 2004, 07:43 PM
your work is on the top man!!... common i want the final scene... hehe dont rush.... art takes time so ill wait

Ah, finished at last - a great effort and a great result!
Best of luck!

06 June 2004, 09:14 AM
What an incredibly beautiful piece of work -
Wonderfully emotive atmosphere. The colour-balance and composition are perfect and the texturing's really well thought-out and executed also - sublime

Your work ROCKS, Daniel and I wish you all the best with your entry :)

Do I sniff a shader tutorial coming up here? :D

06 June 2004, 11:45 AM
Heya CG maniacs ;),

@adr - thanks adr!

@Virtuoso - Me too and I'm sure we will! Thanks bro!

@swag - Yeah, sure :D

@element5 - Thanks mate, I hope I didn't. Cheers man!

@maurocor - I'm glad you like it! Yeah, SF, I love it!
For the anim, I guess it would be nice to do a test,
just classic camera fly-through the scene to see how
would it look like. On the other hand I would rather
go for the next work.

When is the next challenge, damnit! :)

@JamesMK - I'm watching your MachineFight ;), and
as I've said, keep you fingers crossed....

@Atwooki - I'm so happy you liked the colors!! Thank
you for saying that :), cuz I was really afraid of
makeing some "postcard", saturated, ugly colors...
ANd of course, I have no secrets! Shaders, Tuts,
after the challenge is over, yeah....
And I'm very sad you did not have time to do your concept Atwooki.
Now, at the end of the challenge, you can see how original
it was, almost/practicaly unique! Too bad really...

Thanks again!!!

06 June 2004, 06:37 PM
And I'm very sad you did not have time to do your concept Atwooki.
Hehe! Not to worry, Dan; still got BIG plans for this guy, and one thing I really hate is not to finish something ;) guess I'll pick up some award or other elsewhere with the finished cyclops..... :D

best :buttrock:

06 June 2004, 01:10 AM

06 June 2004, 05:55 AM
Hi, Empy:thumbsup:

I am just curious, where are you from? Where is Guincho? Do you speak portuguese?
If you have some time, I'd like your honest opinion about my mashineflesh work (if you want of course!)
Congratulations again for your wonderfull art!

06 June 2004, 03:41 AM
All I can say is F*CK YEAH... you totally nailed that final image man!! ...... I dont know what it is, but I dont care. The fine balance you have created between all the elements is just excellent.

It's the kind of piece that you could analyse for hours. It just looks perfectly random and original.

Definately in my top 5 favourite entries.

06 June 2004, 06:48 AM
Ionized said it better for all of us i think..u could stare it for hours and always find something new...if that's not art...please someone tell me what is?

06 June 2004, 07:44 AM
oh i really like your pic , lot of details and this great texturing

the environnment is unique !

 masterpiece for me !

06 June 2004, 07:50 AM
Dimi, Ionized, c'mon guys you are too kind!
This challenge was quite a TEAM endevour, everybody
helped everybody, every artist piece has some
bits and pieces of other artists who helped...
I do not think anyone is hot for prizes really...

I guess we all have the same thought now:

"when is the next challenge, damnit!!! bring it on!!!!"

now, let me check what Harnelbe is doing....

ps. and we should definitely form THE NUTS CLUB officialy,
and I vote you Dimi to be CEO!, ehehehehehe!!!!

(www,thenutsclub,org sounds good, doesn't it?!)

Wow Empy,

this is really an amazing piece of art. Although this should be above water I am diving through it now for nearly an hour.

It was really interesting to browse through your thread and see this thing evolving.

Good luck for the voting,

06 June 2004, 09:22 PM
Looks real nice. One of my favorite 3.One question however,is the machine the thing on the left? And is the flesh the balls on the right?Either way this looks very bizarre, but in a very good way.Nice job. :bounce:

07 July 2004, 04:51 PM
Yours was the only image which made me forget that Im watching an image.
The mixture of the realistic rendering, the red colors and the surrealistic
scene arrangement is unique. I hope we can see more from you in the future.

Edit: And after having watched the progress of several machineflesh entrys,
there were many competitors who changed their intentions nearly every week
and imho you, too. But you're the only one who managed to get every inten-
tion to a goodlooking level and to finally make use of all of them to create the
final image.
My opinion: best overall work.

08 August 2004, 01:58 PM
Congratulation Daniel!!!!   Your piece always was one of my favorite

08 August 2004, 07:07 PM
