In the early 21st century a scientist named Ami Zhu was at the forefront of nanobot technology but had come to a mental block. She couldn't find a means of powering the nanos long enough to even exit their emitter. And she couldn't find a way to keep the self replicators running long enough. Until she began recieving mysterious messages through electronic mail. The messages explained the process and filled all the gaps she had been hoping to fill and much much more. Even the dynamic scripting for the nanobots was included. The source of the electronic messages was never disclosed but always welcomed.
It took no more than a year to get her emitters and nanobot vaults ready for trial. And when she released the nanobots and executed the dynamic scripts she was astounded to see the nanobots swarming in symbiotic bliss to form solid figures. She was witnessing all her aspirations and dreams of her life unravel before her eyes. In that same moment she witnessed all her greatest fears unfold aswell.
The nanobots immediately began forming large creatures that instantly began operating the nanobot emitters. When she tried to stop one of them a swarm streamlined straight for her and consumed the lower half of her body and even replaced some of her vital organs. She couldn't move.
She laid on the ground in utter pain but continued to contemplate what was happening. She watched the swarms exit the emitter and create entire armies of nano representations of what appeared to be some alien life form. Who could have known where those messages came from.
Ms.Zhu or what was left of her managed to escape as the armies of nanobots continued to spread across the globe destroying every human in sight. She began to develop a symbiotic relationship with the nanobots composing her legs and could even control them as if they were her own legs. The nanobots had also healed her wounds for her. Other swarms would never attack as the amount of human life left in her was minimal and she was recognized as another swarm to their sensors. She survived like this for five years traveling the earth trying to protect other humans but to no avail. She was forced to witness the destruction of every human life she attempted to rescue.
Until came the time she concluded that she was last living human being. She had created a gateway for an alien lifeform to enter our world and wipe it clean. To terraform it to their own specifications. The guilt was unbearable and her swarm began collecting any useful possible items to escape her away from this life barren world.
She would decide to travel the galaxy creating a plan, trying to find a way to clone human life to bring her species back into existence.
She travelled the galaxy for centuries amassing technologies and other life forms. Using her nanobot swarms to hunt these alien life forms. She would capture and run tests and experiments on them. Searching for how she could bring even just one human life into this world. Like the surviving driver of a fatal car crash who was forced to live with the guilt the rest of his life. Relatively, her nanobots would keep her alive for ever and she would be forced to contemplate the guilt of destroying her entire species til the end of the universe.
Every day she dreamed of cruising herself straight into a star but she knew that doing this would destroy any possible chance of bringing her species back out of extinction.
She had become a giant mass of space junk, desperate, confused, and ridden with grief. These weere the more respectable human emotions that she had left for there was one remaing emotion that had turned Ms.Zhu into a monster. Her vanity. One of humans most dispicable but strongest emotions. On earth she was a beautiful woman and she intended to stay this way to do this she needed her soft flesh to once again cover her body. She began using the skin of the lifeforms she would attack to cover her metallic parts. Machines would crawl her surface and stictch the flesh over top, grafting her to be more of a flesh based life form.
Eternity never seemed so long, how long would she drift? Would she ever return her species to existence? If the chatoic nature of the universe could create such a beast. One would hope so.
