03-19-2004, 07:28 AM
great concept, def be watching this thread

03-19-2004, 02:44 PM
Hi Martin; Wow!
gotta keep tabs on this one - and more HD space as well, eh? methinks there's gonna be a fair bit of 'ZB frenzy' going down on this challenge; just a hunch

good luck, man :)

03-20-2004, 04:59 AM
Really looking forward to your entry.

03-20-2004, 05:16 AM
Oh should be quite interesting. Some real talent in this challenge, big names.

03-20-2004, 09:27 AM (

Working on refining the last concept. trying to make the exterior metal work a bit less manufactured looking, and more like its been crafted by hand.

03-20-2004, 09:59 AM
your concept is starting to shape out very nicely...!!!
Following this one!!!:bounce:

03-20-2004, 10:19 AM
Incredibly wicked concept refinement! This will be good...

03-20-2004, 10:23 AM
the handcraft turn is a great idea.
I'd see the organic part more proeminent though (for now it looks like some dead skin has been wrapped on a machine), with maybe the wire/vein transition more visible, and maybe the mouth open so we see some "red".
Keep it up , can't wait to see the modeling magic start.

03-20-2004, 12:26 PM
Damn I think you've won already. Okay next Challenge please :)

03-20-2004, 01:52 PM
very nice! cant wait to see the model

03-20-2004, 02:21 PM
Nice work so far.
I think the eyes are hypnotising me.
If this is in the future, and all bears are like this (not saying they will be) then when we go to the zoo they are going to have to play nature music from a cd to mask over the mechanical sounds of the animals.

Fred Heys
03-20-2004, 02:33 PM
Thats seems like a solid concept ill be keeping an eye on this one!

03-20-2004, 02:53 PM
Very technical and solid mechanics, i stay here to follow the next..

Keep it up :wip:

03-20-2004, 02:57 PM
Looks like a fun model. Good luck.

03-20-2004, 03:10 PM
lovley respected work ... :applause:
nice going friend wish you the best luck

take a look to my work and give some suggestions I am stuck in the stage ,, :surprised

in your sofa
03-20-2004, 03:13 PM
Excellent concept!!

Kinda reminds me of something that would giggle jubilantly while killing me in my sleep.

Nice work!!

03-20-2004, 03:16 PM
Love the 'groin to inner thigh' realisation; really give the feel of pared-away flesh nicely with the piston/ligament effect :)
Like the claws on the hands/feet(paws?) they're looking well attached and suitably chunky - great combo ....
will there be fur on the organix, or is that gonna be left to a bit of 'ZB' wizardry?

Steve Green
03-20-2004, 05:13 PM
I like the sound of handcrafted machinery, it should set it apart - maybe some clockwork mechanisms would look cool.

- Steve

03-20-2004, 05:19 PM
I saw your cavetroll, I'm impatient to see the next about your mechanic dog.

03-20-2004, 09:55 PM
hot damn thats good stuff I love it!!!!!! but it's lost some of it's cutenss now : (

he looks like he could belong to an army of cute little cybernetic bears.

well Mr. Martin keep it up.....

03-21-2004, 07:01 AM (

small update.
tried working on the highlights to bring stuff out, as well as giving him some skin colour, and giving him some cuteness back.

Soeren Nielsen
03-21-2004, 07:06 AM
very nice concept martin, looking good so far :) I better join with a cat now :P

03-21-2004, 07:19 AM
Really cute. Scarry cool. keep it up!:buttrock:

03-21-2004, 07:27 AM
well like broken cycle said..but the cuteness is back!..and its kickin ass man. I think this one is gonna rock..cant wait to see it in 3d..

03-21-2004, 09:49 AM
It`looks veeery cool so far...
Can`t wait for modeling

03-21-2004, 11:49 AM
awesome concept already

i hope your sketch refinement will go on like this for some time... amazing stuff :D

03-21-2004, 12:30 PM
Cool details!

Waiting to see more!

03-21-2004, 12:42 PM
this is the best sketch i've seen so far, i wonder what days are hiding, very talented guys are here,

keep it up, realy wonderful.

03-21-2004, 01:18 PM
My main concern about your design is that he looks more like a humanoid creature than to a real pet (the living part I mean). I think the nipples and the fat repartition are too human like.
Except that, nothing to say, good stuff !

03-21-2004, 05:10 PM that's what i call a concept sketch....awesome:beer:

03-21-2004, 05:20 PM
Looking great so far, I've seen some of your work before and I imagine this will be quite the entry :D Good luck.

03-21-2004, 05:25 PM
looking great :), especially the feet look cool

03-21-2004, 09:50 PM
very good perso, I like the concept !

03-21-2004, 09:50 PM
very good perso, I like the concept !

03-22-2004, 06:35 PM (

at this stage i think im done with the concept. its not as clean as id like, but itll do.

03-22-2004, 06:43 PM
AMAZING sketch!!!

By the way... which utility does all the machinery have? If he enter a Bar...people won't be scared? is it a fighter? or he is a puppy dog?

maybe i'm wrong...

lots of luck for you anyway!

03-22-2004, 06:48 PM
think of him as a laborer/slave. he got tired on his legs, so now his machine legs keep him up for longer periods of time.

03-22-2004, 06:49 PM
great job Martin. I really like the ornament style you put on the mechanics.

03-22-2004, 06:51 PM
The details even on your concept are frightening!!!
I really would like to see this one on 3D ..( and i 'm sure i will) :bounce:

waiting for your updates!

03-22-2004, 07:31 PM
hihi.. A very interesting slave/puppy
And a very good looking sketch... I'm itching to see the model... But I'm even more itching to see the baground of it... Maybe some cybornetic mine, or factory... heh :hmm: quiet curious

03-22-2004, 07:35 PM
I love it!!!

03-23-2004, 01:24 AM
Looking good, how bout givin' him 6 nipples?

03-23-2004, 07:32 AM
Go for it, Martin!

You sure Clay can handle all that heavy metal?

03-23-2004, 11:53 AM
Ha ha it's so cut and it can rip your face about a big old dog coller ?

03-23-2004, 11:53 AM
Ha ha it's so cut and it can rip your face about a big old dog coller ?

03-23-2004, 12:08 PM
nice concept... happyness in slavery! ;)

It's very twisted. I love your concept sketch. very clean and extremely detailed! He's cute and sinister at the same time. Kinda reminds me of 5th element... Gary Oldmans character has some kind of elephant like thing in his desk... don't know what he uses it for... but keeps it locked away in his desk... twisted.

so what does your little slave do? Obviously he does a lot of standing... nice of his owners to make it easier on him to stand for longer periods of time to do their bidding! Twisted... nicely twisted.

great job... now where are those models? And might I say, that's a LOT of modeling ahead of you! Keep me impressed!

03-23-2004, 02:41 PM
wow really nice concept Martin
keep it up one of the best l ve seen so far........
the mecahanical parts are just simply amazing a lot of details in it
hope the 3d will be exactly like it
bye Man

03-23-2004, 06:00 PM (

This is a start to the model. Im working out the proportions until i will be satisfied. Once i get to a stage that i like, i will most likely duplicate this mesh to keep for proportion reasons, and will work out the details underneath. as well as the mechanical parts.

03-23-2004, 08:29 PM
Great work of design.

that starts very well

I love your method of modeling :applause:

03-23-2004, 10:07 PM
Yeah, the Concept is really cool. My GF said she loves the teddy... nah, serious, great concept and refreshing twisted cute. Lovin this:scream:

03-24-2004, 12:48 AM
stupid question probably, but what breed is the dog.?
a boxer ,yes?

03-24-2004, 01:21 AM
what up! anyways never got a chance to vocalize what i was seeing...but the joint that connects the legs to the pelvis throws me off...i guess it doesnt seem mechanicly plausible....i know your a stickler for how things work but mabey if you made those tubes/wires that surround that main shaft more flexible....mabey make some sag a bit...or others ribbed like an accordian,,,you know what i mean...other than that small thing great job so far

03-24-2004, 04:43 AM
I agree with monsitj, you have a good sence of design. keep post your work ^_^

03-24-2004, 05:46 PM
Ambient Whisper,

This is too easy for you.

Because of your advanced skills, you'll need to sketch and model a complete pack of dogs, their owners, and each member of their family trees.

Also, as you seem to be the elite beta buster of choice for the elite modeling app, Clay, you must do twice as much work as everyone else combined (including Virtuoso and fellah) in order to be eligible for any prizes. :) .

Honestly, nobody can be expected to compete against someone using futuristic equipment that probably won't be made available to anyone else for at least another 5 - 10 years.

You are a wicked contestant.

The only chance for everyone else is to combine forces on an uberscene.

Even then, we'd still finish second.

Our only other hope is you get sleepy, and meet a nice woman with CG type dimensions who says she's also sleepy.

Foul, I decry! Foul.

And awesome work.

03-25-2004, 12:48 PM
this is absolutely amazing man, In what kind of places you will involve him, i think you have to work the place very will to fit this character.

03-29-2004, 08:20 PM
cool concept, very original !!

03-29-2004, 10:14 PM
It is looking great so far Martin. How about an update already? Gee you would think you were a working stiff with little free time or something :p

My guess is, u will see the next update on the 31st ;) ...
U know why! :D ;)

03-30-2004, 04:43 AM
i must admit, i havent put into this as much as id like so far.

ive been working on separate parts actually, and will be assembling it all inside houdini, in a few phases. for personal pleasure i want to rig something complex in houdini.

last few days i been making chicken scratch doodles of his legs, and how they will function.

but, the reason why i havent updated is because im working on a timelapse/demo on using zbrush 2.

03-30-2004, 04:55 AM
hey Ambient Whisper... Sweet concept man.... i like the way that the tech melds into the dog figure.... love to see more man....

03-30-2004, 09:34 AM
btw. heres a lil preview pic of what im making for the timelapse.

03-31-2004, 05:55 AM
Wow. :bounce:

04-01-2004, 04:37 AM
sweeeet. Seems like you're having fun with ZBrush 2... Looks like painted. In every sense :) Great work Martin, as always! :buttrock:

04-01-2004, 06:19 PM
Hey this looks great!

I saw your timelapse video, really amazing stuff! I'll definately invest in zbrush 2 as soon as I can...

waiting for an update on your machineflesh entry.. :bounce:

glad to see your concept is at its "end" and you'll be doing more on the next stages now.... its great to see your progress as you are really showing the pieces. can't wait to see more of it come together, especially interested in what you will be doing for the mech parts of the characters body... complex and appealing to the eye, really want to see it in 3d. keep up a great job:wavey:
