Had a few ideas but I think I'll go with this one the Mosquito Injector
03-18-2004, 12:39 PM
Great idea! Can't wait to see what you do with it. I love the abdomen being swapped out for a measured syringe column.
03-18-2004, 08:13 PM
I'm just having trouble with the tip of it, need to make a mechanism to inject the liquid.
03-19-2004, 03:08 AM
well this is the start, I'm starting with the back cause it's the part that will be the longest.
03-19-2004, 11:06 AM
Was having trouble with the back, so I decided to start the body. Box modeling with lots of extrude and outline. Tomorrow I should start the legs. (or the day after tomorrow)
03-20-2004, 09:24 AM
Ok just finish the leg, well still have all the hairs but I'm leaving that for later, trying to focus on the big lines.
Once again I used box modeling to do the legs
03-20-2004, 09:44 AM
Hi there! superb concept, model has been very close to the concept sketch. You are already there keep it up..:scream:
03-20-2004, 09:54 PM
Good solution for the injector.
You might consider some research on the metallic looking beetles for textures. Your bug could look very much like a real insect but still look mechanical.
03-21-2004, 04:39 AM
well I haven't started my maps, still on modeling, but suggestion are always appreciated
03-21-2004, 10:59 AM
Did a little GI render.
I did the wings once again with box modeling.
The wires where done with cylinders, attached together, and the used a path deform.
03-22-2004, 08:05 AM
this is where I'm at , I put 3 views, wireframe, no mesh smooth and meshsmooth to give you an idea on how I box model.
03-22-2004, 10:46 AM
Waw! I just love your vision of the mechanical mosquito. I've often had vague ideas of a similar concept with modified insects, but your design is just awesome!
Im really excited and looking forward to see it rendered!
03-23-2004, 03:53 AM
The Head, I'm gonna make this one in many parts ,will start with a box 3x3x3, then gor from there
03-23-2004, 03:54 AM
I won't be posting as often in the next 3 weeks, I've got a contract on the way but will try to at least post once a week
03-24-2004, 12:21 AM
here's the begining of the head, doesn't look like much but it's geting there, I'll have to edit a few vertex. Box 3x3x3 edited and a cylinder that I edited to make the begining of the needle part.
03-24-2004, 08:19 AM
Well here it is since my last post I've been working none stop on it, this is the result, I'm gonna add some more hair on it
(the mapping of this is going to be a pain)
03-26-2004, 10:29 AM
Well the Moskito is finish all I have to model is the camera I plan to put under it. A few modification for the medium and low res models that I will use for the swarn of mosquito I plan to put flying in the background. And of course the peice of skin, Moskito is landed on.
Almost forgot I will model a drip of liquid coming out of the tip of the needle.
03-26-2004, 10:37 AM
03-26-2004, 03:00 PM
Wow...its look great!
03-26-2004, 03:59 PM
Hey nice model, I like the concept, very creepy.
03-26-2004, 04:09 PM
Looking nice , clean and detailed!
Keep on man!
03-26-2004, 06:04 PM
A very nice concept, and very nice modeling. I love the helmet.
03-26-2004, 09:40 PM
I'm gonna work on the camera in the next few days
I just notice some of my hair on the legs don't show (I'll corect that)
03-26-2004, 10:28 PM
Great Details man
03-30-2004, 05:56 PM
Ok so I finnaly came out with a concept, this was long. The lens might be smaller in the model I'll see when I'll start modeling it.
03-30-2004, 07:00 PM
nice concept and ur pulling it off great m8
spot on modelling now add the camera
03-30-2004, 07:06 PM
looks amazing !!
graet concept too ......
03-31-2004, 06:05 PM
This is the start I have the camera holder done, now I'm starting the Cam
03-31-2004, 07:12 PM
...beautiful poetic piece...will it talk?
04-01-2004, 08:36 PM
Ok camera is done, now what could I add up?
I need to model the drip of liquid at the tip of the needle and bend the wings a bit.
Maybe I could add up rocket lauchers hehe
04-01-2004, 09:29 PM
maybe you could be interested in this page for inspiration on details:
04-01-2004, 10:20 PM
You know what i might actually do my rocket lauchers, if I make little rocket darts, will think about it
04-01-2004, 10:57 PM
I don't know about rocket launchers, but this is a great concept. Good choice of life form. If you want to add anything, my idea to concider is some means of charging up. Like it could be plugged into some kind of electro-generator. Or maybe the skin that it sits on could look really infected with veins turning blue or something. Anyway, looks great. Just keep going.:buttrock:
04-01-2004, 11:03 PM
Sorry. Belated posting. Rocket launchers, eh... dart projectors, great idea. I guess it's all in how you word it really, but dart styled projectiles sounds a lot more practical for this concept if you ask me.
04-02-2004, 12:19 AM
yeah I'm definitly going with the darts idea, I like the fact that my mosquito is looking more and more like a military helycopter
04-02-2004, 05:13 AM
Just a quick sketch and the start of my modeling
04-02-2004, 08:30 AM
Here's the begining of the darts
04-02-2004, 11:25 AM
This is damn cool! I love your concept and model. The wings seem a bit too small. but otherwise everything is working out really well. Keep up the good work!
04-04-2004, 04:18 AM
The darts are done!
I've just started the mapping of the eyes, I will NOT keep the green color. To do my circle mapping I just did a render of alote of spheres, then used it as a displacement map on my eyes
04-04-2004, 08:44 AM
Have you thought boosting flying power? Now it looks quite heavy.
04-04-2004, 09:18 AM
WOW! Great concept and a very good model. I canīt wait to see the final render.
04-04-2004, 10:32 AM
I really love your work! Beautifully done. What I would like to see is some of the environment, and to know the background of the creature. Does it live in a biochem. lab, or is it independent, etc.
04-04-2004, 05:48 PM
Wizzi: was actually thinking of it just don't know where to put the boost, and I'm afraid it would overcharge him
Ob-123: the RMI is landed on an arm, and in the background I will have a swarn of RMI flying (one of them is about to land), the environment is not the important thing in this contest, the character is so I'll keep it fairly simple.
Locusta: Well, you'll have to wait since I'm just starting texturing
04-05-2004, 07:11 AM
Very Interesting concept !!
I love it.
04-07-2004, 08:33 AM
wow kool concept, nice modelling, looks great so far!!!
04-07-2004, 10:17 AM
I just think about the tranquillizer darts.
A mosquito is smaller than a human and the darts much more.
Do you think that the dose of tranquillizer will be sufficient for a human ? Or it's just to anaesthetize the part where it must to land and inject the serum ?
04-19-2004, 09:53 AM
I'm back, sorry was on a contract in the past two weeks so i didn't update my image.
Here's my first procedural skin test. I don't like it so I think I'll make a map by hand.
The eye on the other hand is like I want. I'll try to post a close up of it.
04-25-2004, 05:21 PM
pretty nice, i hope you win, but the skin might need some SSS to look good !
04-26-2004, 07:53 AM
Here is my first draft for my brush metal I was inspired by this tutorial, but since I use finalRender mappings I had to adapt lots of steps.
04-26-2004, 03:27 PM
Awesome. I love this model. You are very good. Can't wait to see it complete.
04-26-2004, 07:16 PM
Nice work on the eyes indeed. For the metal, I think there's an incoherence between the scale of the machanical parts and the scale of the brush "strokes".
I think they should be bigger (my opinion) to make the all thing look smaller...
No other crits, good job! :)
04-26-2004, 07:23 PM
thx Frood exactly what I was telling myself
04-27-2004, 02:34 AM
wicked dude! great concept and modelling!
04-28-2004, 05:09 AM
Nice work. You have done a great job on the mosquito. It really looks like one. Looks a bit off without the textures at the moment, so I cant wait to see it when you've done those!
Very original =)
05-17-2004, 07:44 AM
Finnaly could put a few hour on this project, Haven't had time to rework the metal but worked on the body texture, so here it is
05-17-2004, 08:03 PM
nice work i love the concept, and i love insects rock on
05-18-2004, 12:58 AM
good concept and modelling:wip:
05-19-2004, 08:24 AM
Continued a bit today, getting there slowly
05-22-2004, 02:38 AM
NICE!! REally like the idea GOod work
06-09-2004, 06:26 PM
Great work. I love the style and the wire work is awesome!
06-10-2004, 03:55 AM
ok my latest test , I use two lights in my scene and a HDRI, and it look good to me except i lost my caustics (need to put more photons). This is my first DOF test and I have way to much of it. Well I hope I'll be able to finish this image for the deadline since I'm in a huge rush at work, I guess I'll forget the sleep part of the day for a while.
06-10-2004, 04:13 AM
hey the last render is looking very very good!!
06-10-2004, 05:18 AM
Looking good. Glad to see this entry coming together. THe mosuito machine was such a cool idea.
06-10-2004, 08:20 AM
great man...I like this buggy idea...great finishing
06-11-2004, 02:54 AM
Ok this DOF fits my liking all I wanted is to have the detail of the eye to come out,
now I need to make a few tweak like the camera and then I'll render the big one in a few elements so I can't composite it in Photoshop or After effects (depending on what effects I might add up).
By the way thx for all your comments and good luck to everyone on this last week of challenge.
06-11-2004, 10:51 PM
looks good. Though the mechanical mosquito has been done before this is realy nice. Personally i would not have so many colors in the wires. I would use silver black and red. Maybe one other blue or yellow or green. Looks very good. Great modeling. Oh i hope youl work on the skin.
06-16-2004, 02:58 PM
well I won't be able to finish this contest
shit hit the fan this weekend
and I'm far from my files and won't be able to access them before the deadline
so good luck to everyone :hmm:
06-16-2004, 05:32 PM
The mosquito looks almost lifelike man. Too bad you can't finish the competition. The details are really cool man. Hope something good happens and you can finish it up :applause:
06-16-2004, 08:08 PM
Please if it's possible, just try to finish it....your work is almost done and a really cool design you have...so I hope you will try it..
