Started pencilling-out some rough ideas, already...
think I'm onto something a little bit 'different' here, already!
Gonna lean hard 'an deep into this one to see what I can pull out of the current rash of scribbles....

The outcast of the Cyclops; the 'albino cyclops' has hinged wooden bones, and protects his delicate skin from the elements by covering himself with moss and mud; usually only emerging in the twilight hours....
Gonna make HEAVY use of SSS on the poor cyclop's skin....lots of veins, blotchy skin from sun-damage, smeared mud patches - change his eye to 'albino-reddish pink and deeply wrinkled skin on joints.

hey, cheers fellah! - finally whipped up a concept :)
Hinged wooden joints? well, his flesh has to hang on somthing - wanted to get away from the metal/rusty metal thing....
Gonna introduce some thin rope/twine in there, also...... (to help keep his bits together :D

Cool concept and idea but i think its not too practical to have wooden bones on a creature ...Probably there's some catch somewhere.

Hello there Atwooki.........
Looks like a nice idea.Nice style and look,the exxxagerated thin legs give him a fun and toonish appeal.The wood angle is fresh,and I think you can still add that metal like substance if need be later for support etc,etc...
Moss and deep rich wood are always a great combo.....Add in a little sci-fi tech type machinery and this has fun and potential with style written all over it.:beer:

Oh man! Love that concept - reminds me a bit of those traditional swedish/norwegian bush trolls we've got roaming around in the wilderness here.

Trying to get a bit of form into the arms......short blunt 'moss gathering' fingernails, and grubby, hardened fingertips....will dirty up the nails considerably, and make them more broken here and there.... :D

Or maybe some water in some bucket on his shoulder and some wooden pipe going somewhere... Like ancient extinguisher(or how is ti written correctly)
But beware it might get too mechanical...

Haha, the pipe was not a too bad idea, some sort of battlepipe he can avoid to get attacked by angry shorties, like some "mickeymouse on cocaine" type of warriors... in makin them stoned nah nah nah nah...
Ur big dude looks really cute, sorta Troll and very natural. I can picture him just want to have peace in his forest and being some sort a Spirit of nature....
and of course best luck and make him rock tha house.... :beer: :buttrock: :beer:

Was supposed to be his club; just leaning on it out of sheer laziness;
but a pipe? why not???
Think his chances of getting hold of the ol' 'peruvian flake' or a bit of bolivian 'marching powder' are a bit slim in his neck of the woods, tho' - even if he could do with a little 'kick' now an' then.. :D

Awesome concept :) I love it!
Maybe add some more 'machineliness' to him...at the moment he just seems like a rejected cyclops. Maybe give him a big chunka wood somewhere on his body. Or take away the flesh somewhere to reveal the wooden bones (you know like on the forearm or shin etc).

very cool concept. one thing that you might want to work on though is to make some of the wood mechanics more prominent, cuz right now it looks too much like something out of LOTR.

I like the comedic with the beauty of your idea. The idea of a large cyclops with wooden joints... that just rocks... now are the wooden parts living?... so he's sort of part tree part human... that so rocks... great idea! I can't wait to see this one!

There will be a number of insects and wood 'larvae' living within (and on) the wood and moss covering his body, and are lovingly 'nurtured' and farmed by the cyclops:
These creatures serve the dual purposes of keeping his delicate skin infection-free, and as juicy snacks for those long night-time forays....

A base structure:
Just trying to find some volume at the moment, into which to build further details; the 'wooden effect' of his bones will be brought out of this base structure, the skull, spine, limbs, fingers and toes eventually taking on an semi exoskeletal appearance, with the flesh being 'whittled' back away from the joints and tendons...

this design is awesome, I can already see him hopping around with his bouncy belly and his big stick. If you're finished with him and you still have some time left it would be fun to see some animation.
Your muscle structure and edgeloops look good too, I'm sorry but I don't really have any suggestions at this point on your model.
Just keep it up :)

I would like to see him with a bigger belly(more round and short in the sideview), more hunchback.. and the flap hanging down from his neck.. thinner upperarms in the side view. maybe smaller head(it might look big now because the "neckflap" ain't there) all as in the concepts.
it looks like you where a little afraid of exaggerating these shapes in the 3d model, as you did so nice in the concepts.
in general, exaggerate the shapes more, it will make him more interesting, and fun looking.. just my opinion :)

The head WILL be a lot smaller, and although I can 'push' his belly out considerably further, I don't want him to look too much like a 'comma' shape!
The arms are currently just a base to work on top of, as they will be 'chopped-off' and remodelled, to achieve the entwined roots feel of the wooden skel. The upper arms should become, as you pointed out, be as thin as his thighs; if not more so, and each finger three times the thickness of them! I'm looking at the arm really being just shoulder, big elbow, big knuckles and broad fingers, held together by his wooden skeleton...
I still need to draw some attention to his eye, but as this is just the preliminary couple of hours on this model, I'll play about with some volumic variations, and I gratefully take on board your useful crits :)

Nice rough there! Lovely proportions and a perfect face - he looks really daft already, which I assume is just the ticket with this guy.
The neck looks a bit unclear, if it's thick or sagging, but this is an early stage of course.
I love this blobby style - keep going... :wip:

I have to agree the neck is unclear,but it's early.The thigh is way to thin.I know it's exagerated toon style.But you should give more size,at least a little,even beyond armor or wood covering this area.Does look to have fun written in it however,and a decent start.:beer:

Still lots of twigs creepers and binding parts to finish, but thought it would be good to put some flesh on for the moment...

Sorry about the UV comment... but it seems that bflesh is not interacting with movement, flexions and sun exposure :rolleyes: And about the model, IMHO the legs... I don't know, I would make them a little stronger, Know what I mean?

Wow! I like what I see!
This mesh is by far the cleanest I've seen in this challenge. This mesh even looks good when it's unsmoothed.
I also LOVE the extreme proportions in this character! Never ever think about making his legs stronger! (Sorry mosconariz ;) )
