View Full Version : Game Art Comp 6: Woody Harrelson / Natural Born Killers
So i'm gonna give Mr. Harrelson in the movie "natural born killers" a go. The movie is about two lovers /serial killers who travel across the us and killing people along the way. Woddy Harrelson playes the male serial killer Mickey Knox.
I'm going to do him shaved bald, like the prison scene in the movie, a tight white t-shirt and maybe with a knife or a shotgun if i have time over!

Began working on the torso tonight and this is what i got so far.
Not much to say really...
What do you know, a head!
I used various ref pics for his head, i couldnt find any from the actual movie though, and im finding he doesnt have any big defineing characteristics when his shaved and all. So i might just tweak the head a bit and call it final...

Nice start, Its going to be hard to capture that wicked look though. Look for fansites if you want to find good references.

i think the defining characteristics are there, they're just a little on the subtle side. bring the brow ridge down some, and add some definition to it. Shorten up the nose just a tad and make it a little more prominent. This is gonna be a tricky one!
I did a quick render with a single omni light, tried to make it look similiar to the pic at the top post and use it as a ref :)
I defined his cheekbones and the eyebrow ridge. I tweaked it overall =)
I'm giving him some jeans, think it will looks cool.
I've decided to give him a prop and depending on the time and polys i have left if will either be a shotgun or a pistol or a weapon of some sort. He is a serial killer after all ;)
3032 triangles so far...
modeled a Remington 870 with a sawed of barell. I think thats one of the weapons he uses in the movie. Triscount is 352.
I also modeled the glasses.
I didnt update the mesh very mush. Tweaked the boots, the head and the glasses. Plus added some basic colors to show you what color scheme im going for.

Great choice Buck. Though I think you didn't make it easy for yourself choicing a guy with a bald head. But so far the models looks very good and the polycount is decent.
His tumy is to long. Lower the chest area and don't forget to adjust the arms when you do so. His hands look rather big, but it's not very clear from this viewpoint. Also his upper legs look just a bit to long compaired to the lower legs. All in all tweak the proportions, their close but not just quiet right.
The head looks real good, but it doesn't really look like Woody, I can see the resemblance, but it's not yet convincing enough.
Perhaps you could post a wireframe of his head and body? Keep up the good work.

Here are the wires, i lowered the chest and arms a little bit and i tried to define the knee area a little more. (His tummy might look longer than it is because the t-shirt isnt tucked in)
It's hard to capture woodys facial structure. Maybe išll try to slap on the photo im using as ref to see how it looks with texture...

I'd like to see a profile of this. It looks like the bulb of the nose might need to protrude more
Ok so right now Mr. Harrelson himself is currently at 3300 tris and the remington shotgun is at 350 tris with leaves me with another 850 tris for something else.
Maybe i could give him a shoulder holster with another gun in it...
I'll try and fix the face some more but i think i'll rely on the texture to give him the resemblence om harrelson.
If there are no more comments i'll start unwrapping shortly!
textured the shotgun, right now it has a small corner on a 256*256 map, im pretty happy with the result considering my lack of skills in photoshop...

havent had time for this project due to school and other things but i hope i'll still have tme to finish this one!
I've properly unwrapped the entire model plus the shotgun. Im going to use 5 256*256 maps. I redid parts of the shotgun texture. Here is the final model, weights in at 4180 tris including the shotgun and glasses which arent in the render. Sadly the model doesnt resemble woody that much but i have to move on to textureing since this is my weak spot. Im still an exploring newbie in photoshop.
First texture draft. am i overdoing the blood?
All i remember from the movie was woody shooting people at close range with a shotgun...

i havnt seen the movie, so i might be wrong, but if he shoots people from 'close' range...with a shotgun, blood is going to go everywhere. on your model it looks more like he's been shot and has been bleeding for a while. this is because of the very 'localised' blood stains ( seem to be concentrated in a few places ). i think it would be more like the spray from a paint can, still quite splatted, as its travelling quite fast, but it also needs to be thinner, because it would be thinner on the surface.
im not sure if youre a loud to for the comp, but check out this guys bloodsplats ( Photoshop brushes ) and if you cant use them, at least you can use them as references for your own splats.

I used the custom brushes as a base for these blood stains, i think it turned out pretty good! I put the shotgun in the render aswell. 100% self illumination:

The shape of the body is basically there, but you need to work on the shape of the head imo. I think he should look like Woody from all angles. Now it just looks like him from the front.

yeah, i think those custom brushes helped a bit, as long as you're aloud to use them. they'd look even better in a higher resolution though :drool:
I hear that! im thinking of remakeing the textures in 512*512 and just resize em for the challange...
Well, i didnt have time to finish this one, good luck to you other people though. I will still try to finish him sometime.
