View Full Version : Maya Prelight Export

I am a programmer working on a small game together with a graphician. For the moment, we are using Maya 5 as our 3D editor for this game, together with the GE2 Export plugin, whose output files are then converted to an internal format used by the game.

We would like to use lightmaps or prelighted single textures for the game and noticed the Edit Polygons -> Colors -> Prelight (mental ray) option. However after using this with the 'texture' target, the exported model either has no textures at all or simply has the normal unlit textures.

During the export process, error messages such as,
// Error: No object matches name: surfaceShader1.color //
// Error: No object matches name: surfaceShader1.transparency //
seem to appear as well, I don't know if this is related.

Does anybody have experience using this prelight tool? The manual does not seem clear on how these 'bake sets' are supposed to be used.

Is there any other way to easily prelight textures applied to Maya models, or to generate light intensity textures?
