some times ago I posted one image with the name Cathedral here, now with a new composition, sky and illumination I am posting this, please tell me how it is?

Other than having your shadows way too black (they look almost pure black int he really dark places), great piece. Lighten those ultra black spots up a bit and it should be great. The sky is a bit off as well from the perspective.

gr8t modelling, but i think the illumination could have more work, altough its a cloudy day u should hav more contrast on the light...just my opinion :)

Outstanding work but I have to agree about the shadows that are way to black is some areas!

Other than that it is a great image!

i think im going to jump on the ban wagon and say that the shadows are a little too dark. but if you lighten them up a bit, i can only say, front page:buttrock: nice work and keep it comming

That test with yellow light is very nice, the big one has a very boring light setup.

I'm afraid i won't agree with the shadows crit: they r ok as they r.
The pic looks just amazing, and the light may seem dull to many, but fantastic to some, wich is my case ;)

I believe from a lighters perspective that you've caught the mood very well. The scene may look a bit flat but thats what rainy days tend to do in pictures. One thing I would suggest however, is to throw some pieces of geometry in there, other buildings, to give the scene a bit more depth. And if you've got the time, maybe some rain and mourners attending a funeral or something will really help set the mood. Hope this helps.

This is amazing. I actually think the blackness of the shadows cast an eerie tone to the Cathedral. Sort of a Horrific aura, the kind of thing you would find in a horror movie, or dark gothic film.

The detail and magnitude of the modeling displayed in this piece is stunnung.

Lovely, although I think as a piece it would look nicer with some kind of sunlight, to accentuate all the detail. Your test rendering with the evening light is a more interesting light scheme.

I still love the image though, 4 stars from me! :wise:

I think the image is really fantastic. It's always nice to see more definition on models, especially architecture, but the overcast feeling is great as well.

What would be really great on the overcast version is if you had some light eminating from within. It would help define the structure some more and make the image a lot more interesting.

voçe tem uma imagem bem feita. a luz é muita bonita. eu acho que o que os outros tentarem diser é que as janelas são pretas de mais. tal vez é por que não tem nada para refletir. o céu deve iluminar as janelas suficientemente. nos renders de baixo, a luz é boa, fora das janelas. a única coisa é a perspectiva. agora dá a sentida que o edifício está caindo para a esquerda. usa um focal length maior, 90mm por exemplo. daria a impressão que é mais reto

desculpe meu esforço de escrever em português, faz um bom tempo que estava no brasil :D

the only thing i see wrong with it is the lack of darker areas where rain would drip off causing the gray of the brick to a darker dingier gray.

To make it slightly better (I still think the sky doesn't agree with the current state of lighting of the cathedral) some rain effects and some people mourning in front of the cathedral would be .. Wonderful!

I was watching at ur render and noticed something really quickly, ur model is all good.....but ur model's edge is not smooth which make ur image a bit fake.

buy youself a video card with AA and AF feature...

and the model is amazing though...=D

the pageing is not too good, the object you want to display should be a lot further from the viewer.

the perspective vamera you are using is painfully distording the angles of the building giving it a dinamic look which in my op. is not good at all for a catheral.

i don't know how composed this piece of architecture maybe it was a famous architect along the course of history, but judging from where architecture stand today this is what i have to say:

- there is a rythem of 5 penetrations along the side of the building, that's not very good.
- there is a eterogen rythem of 3 penetrations on the front facade with the middle penetration standing out, this rythem should be evident in the volumery as well. maybe there is...
- i don't think i'm able to comment on that

in any case i think there is too much 'noise', i'm curious though who made this. hope i wasn't an ass :D

technically speaking, it's excellent.

hrmm..I was going to say that there was something wrong with the Fence illumination..for some reason that thing just jumped out of the picture, looked a bit out of place.....odd it hasnt been mentioned more IMHO.

I don't understand why you'd say that the lighting 'isnt' dynamic enough'.... not everything has to be lite by orange and purple lights and set at night with laneterns and shit. It's realistic to an overcast day. I like it a lot.

Very nice. I do think this could hold its own if thrown into a live-action shot.

But you do have some unresolved composition issues. Nothing a move of the camera wouldn't fix, thanks to the medium, but still an issue non-the-less. Depending on what you want, you can either take Raul's advice and move the camera back enough to straighten the lines and give us a full view. That is good if you want us to be more objective or technical. The other is to move in even closer (or better yet, just crop the image) so that the dome is cut off at least a quarter of the way. Right now we're left wondering just what is at the very tip-top of this thing, which, unless you intend to reveal something odd is infact on the tip of the building, is distracting us from the rest of it. Cutting more off by putting the camera closer will make it more natural, since people rarely walk around looking up at stuff, but will still give us enough to see that this is big and important. At least, that's the theory.

I hope this helps a bit. Overall, you've got nothing to worry about. The model, the lights, and for the most part the textures are all solid work; anyway, in the real world it's the DP and the director who dictates where the camera goes.

Too dark even in the one with more light.. Maybe it is to set a mood but I'd prefer a more exposed one, still having a cloudy day feel.

Another thing I noticed immediately is the mirrored textures on the front wall...

also, more exposure, reminding you again! (it is a cloudy day but you can still burn your film if you keep the exposure long enough, just like you can get a dark image ona very sunny day with ultra low exposure., you have to be balanced, this is dark..
