View Full Version : Still Life: Winnie The Pooh

03 March 2004, 03:49 PM
Something i made in some days just for fun, i'm quite busy with my uni studies at the moment so i didn't have the possibility to make something requiring too much time. I decided to model Winnie because i was browsing google for some pics and i found this site: which took me back to when i was a child. The task hasn't been the easiest ever, that toy has more edgeloops than a human :D I tried to use the 3 basic colours as much as i could, trying to get a sort of an X composition with Winnie in the middle: wood on top right and bottom left, bright white on top left and bottom right. I hope you like it :)

modeling, lighting and rendering in CINEMA4D 8.5 as usual
texturing in CINEMA4D (BODYPAINT3D) and Photoshop for the (hand made) wallpaper.

Excellent, you really caught the mood of the original character, and the rendering is stunning...

Five stars for me (for what they count...) ..

03 March 2004, 04:07 PM

03 March 2004, 04:10 PM
Everything is nice, only the T-pose bothers me a bit.

03 March 2004, 04:14 PM
looks very good alberto!

is there sss in spoon and airplane? they looks so soft...

great work...kay

03 March 2004, 04:21 PM
Very nice work. I especially like the lighting. It has a very soft feeling that fits Pooh Bear well.

Only that pose bothers me a bit as well, with him standing to the wall. It's kinda like he is being robbed :D

03 March 2004, 04:22 PM
The T-pose was for an "ideal hug" and to keep the composition balanced.

Kay: no SSS, just GI with the St.Peters Probe and a blue area light.

03 March 2004, 04:29 PM
Excellent! :applause:

What caught my eye were the strings on the plane - wonderful idea to do it that way - I really like those details!

03 March 2004, 04:43 PM
perfect!

03 March 2004, 04:47 PM
Very nice render

i like it

03 March 2004, 06:03 PM
Nice render! I like the softness, but the only thing that stands out is the tip of that red crayon...its sharper than all the rest. Hardly noticable, but i had to crit something.:D

03 March 2004, 11:45 PM
Nice! I like your poo, man! Err.. pooh ;)
Very nice render. The light and everything is great

03 March 2004, 11:42 PM
Wow looks great! I wish I could have wallpaper like that^_^

03 March 2004, 11:44 PM
I love the picture. It's really good. Seems a little shiny to pass for photo-real, but it's certainly close though. Good Job overall.

03 March 2004, 11:54 PM
Nice, I would love to see him with honey all over his face.

03 March 2004, 12:02 AM
great picture :)

03 March 2004, 12:35 AM
hey thirdeye...great image..its a great character and you managed to portray his characteristics in the image..imho.

03 March 2004, 01:51 AM
Beautiful ThirdEye! I can never get AR HDRI renders to work for me..I always get artifacts in my shadows. One thing that is bugging me. Unless that wooden plane has a heavy engine in, shouldn't the tail be pointing down...due to the weight distribution? It just seems off. Ilove it though..Really kickin.

I too would love a wallpaper.

03 March 2004, 01:55 AM
It'd be true if the right cord wasn't put around the wing ;)

Try these settings for GI tho:

accuracy between 50% and 95%, depending on the accuracy you need
stochastic samples 100-150
min res 3
max res 20

03 March 2004, 02:36 AM
Great Pooh image! It makes me sad actually. I used to have a stuffed Pooh bear that played the old song when hugged (I had it for as long as I can remember). But my sister broke it one day a year or so ago . Ahhh... Pooh nostalgia...

03 March 2004, 06:20 AM
this render brings plenty of good'ol memories to me
awesome job

03 March 2004, 06:41 AM
I read elsewhere here on CGTalk that people usually want to be positively criticised when they post their images.

Anyway, I could not find any flaws in your image. Either that or my eyes are not trained to be ferocious to spot flaws. Overall, I admire your modeling skills and composition of the Pooh bear. Not to mention, your lighting is superb as if taken in the morning in a well-lit room.

People have said here that your image has too much glow, I think that their monitors may or may not be properly calibrated.

Bravo for your modeling skills and my two thumbs way up! I hope to see more of your work since I know how it is to balance between Uni and your secondary interests.

03 March 2004, 06:42 AM
That's the glassiest, glassy thing I've laid me eyes on. Good work

03 March 2004, 06:51 AM
Great Picture !!
Impressive lighting and shader!
Keep up the great work :applause:

03 March 2004, 08:38 AM
thanks to you and to your son what size would u need btw?

i would big as possible :-)

03 March 2004, 09:18 AM
His cuteness factor is higher, then the original ! I think !

Way to go !

03 March 2004, 11:52 AM
Very cute thing...!

03 March 2004, 12:09 PM

Yep this picture is bring back memories for the poo. Nicely done, colors are well choosen and i like the wall, nice simple design. Congrats.

03 March 2004, 03:47 PM

03 March 2004, 04:38 PM

Ah, the misteries of Italian light switches...

03 March 2004, 06:43 PM
Exactly, come to Italy and you'll see one :) I've used mine as a reference.

i`m always amazed the way some people can focus on pointless details, by the way yes, that`s a quite common italian lightswitch.

03 March 2004, 07:43 PM
Wow, I like it a lot!! good work

03 March 2004, 09:56 PM
Stunning artwork !

The only slight thing that bothers me is the star of the wallpaper in Winnie's shadow, looks too - crisp ?

03 March 2004, 10:23 PM
Hands-down one of the most realistic pics I've seen on this site. This better be in the gallery soon.

03 March 2004, 11:03 PM
didn't expect him to be so shiny .. but he's cool.

hey third eye, very nice image. i like the light and softness of it  its actualy the first work of urs ive seen.

03 March 2004, 01:44 AM
most times i would sit by and quitely show my praise by gauking from the shadows but something about the way you did that transparent honey blows my mind... or maybe i'm just hungry. either way i gotta admit if i was serving some decerations for my kid i'd vote your super shined out Pooh no doubt:thumbsup:

i would say i'm curious, but i don't remember Pooh being sheriff... anywho, wonderful design & textures:bowdown:

03 March 2004, 06:48 AM
I like the light and the texture, great work!

03 March 2004, 07:12 AM
This is absolutely sweet!!! Love it! :applause:

03 March 2004, 12:24 PM
beautiful work champ

03 March 2004, 04:20 PM
I think it sucks! , needs more lens flares and a x-wing.

You already know what I think

03 March 2004, 04:44 PM
a chess pattern...:p

03 March 2004, 06:03 PM
Great Job Alberto!

Yeah, u're right, next time i'll render it with X-dugef too :D

03 March 2004, 01:24 AM
I like it! How did you get that subtle glow? Was that with the glow filter in C4D? Critique: His arms are posed a little plainly.

03 March 2004, 04:36 AM
I like the rendering. One thing you may want to be aware of compositionally is that when you have objects very close to the edges, it tends to create tension. His paws are very close to the edge as well as the top of the light switch. I think if you backed the camera away a bit, it would make him seem more cuddly. Again, very awesome render with the lighting and all.

03 March 2004, 06:15 AM
Is POO getting Jiggy with the HONEY?

03 March 2004, 01:28 PM
Runyon: no, it's all Ps postwork
jiggy128: i dunno about poo, maybe pooh :D
