I really like what you're trying to do here. The tinting and the writing definitely convey mood, that is established. It is a nice image! I think to really grab a hold of peoples emotions, there needs to be a hook in the "photo" of the sister's bedroom. What i mean by hook is a subject, something that tells a story, or conveys some sort of history about the sister. There is nothing that tells a story, there is a can on the floor. What does the soldier miss about his sister? Maybe there is her favorite doll sitting in the chair? Something cute and innocent, and girly, that would contrast the terrible news of going off to war. You know what i mean?
Anyhow, very well done!
