That's a fantastic model. It may be a little heavy on the DOF. Too much in front of the base of the model, but other than that you've done a great job all around.

i have been following this work in the wip thread for some time and i must say i find your work truly amazing and very inspiring. wonderful character with a lot of detail.

good job man!

pretty nice stuff here
kinda reminds me of those kaiyodo akira toys...
Are you planning to texture it into one of those?

03 March 2004, 07:35 PM
Amazing job!
It looks very real! Just lika a resin kit!
Did you put that up using referances like a kaneda action figure or something?
I just agree with Edharris on the DOF thing. Lower it down a litte, it's too washed out!
Also you could put this model on a shelf or something! Make a composition with real toys maybe...
Just one question! Where's the kaneda's bike?... ;)

03 March 2004, 07:38 PM
finished? so where are the textures? ;-)
model is great! First thought, it was sculpted.

03 March 2004, 07:39 PM
AHAHHHAH!!! Yesssssssssss Great I 'm really happy to see a so good Kaneda!
You took the time but the final is so good!!
Good Job Man! :bounce:

03 March 2004, 07:40 PM
Very nice.

Now put it on your desk for real:

03 March 2004, 07:49 PM
Woooo.... super Kaneda, Je t'admire profondement ! Gros Bisous !!! :] :bounce:

03 March 2004, 07:59 PM
Pretty cool man!

03 March 2004, 08:07 PM
I think tis looks fantastic, I get the impression you set out to produce a realistic plastic figurine and you have definitely achieved that look...

03 March 2004, 08:20 PM
That awesome. I think he looks a bit too much like a kid compared to the comics though. But still a very good model. Can you print it out as a statue please?

03 March 2004, 08:28 PM
Amazing model...

If there is something to improve I think it will be the pose.

The way he holds his bazooka, It doensnt suggest it's a heavy
object. look at sculptures of Degas for example he is ( was )really good in those things !

Nevertheless it's an amazing model you made there!

03 March 2004, 08:40 PM
Yeah Nab, excellent :]

03 March 2004, 08:42 PM
Good proportions... Otomo would be proud.

03 March 2004, 08:43 PM
Looks superb. I just cannot stop looking for the mould seams. you should've modeled them in!

03 March 2004, 08:45 PM
great model indeed

03 March 2004, 08:47 PM
ok, i am a really hughe fan of AKIRA, and this is just amazing! please, texture it, texture it! and then model the bike, and put it in the bg... and later start working on a cg remake of the movie...
hmm too much work? i can help!

hehe, congratulations, and about the bazooka, we are talking about a bazooka in the year 2019, i think they must be lighter..

good luck, and please.. just texture him, i could be sooo cooL!

03 March 2004, 09:15 PM

03 March 2004, 09:26 PM
wonderful modeling
I Love it ! :D

if I was you , I send kaneda model file and pay to create a real figurine :D ( i don't remember what is a web site who make a 3d sculpt from a 3D files)

If any one can gibe the magic link, it was so great

Texturing ! Texturing!

03 March 2004, 09:56 PM
nice modeling. The texturing is a little weak. The pose is very rigid.

Yeah great modeling i like it but the shading seems not finished.

03 March 2004, 10:47 PM
Awesome :buttrock:

yep, ça déchire nab !
T'envoies la figurine ? :)
En tout cas, modeling master, c'est la class

03 March 2004, 11:15 PM
Thank you all very much !!!

Ok, i'll try to texture it for real... I thought it would work with a simple shader to make it looking like a resina kit... but I trust you :)

Close ups coming soon ! and anything else you want.

Thanks again for your comments ;)

03 March 2004, 11:47 PM
Good Job.

03 March 2004, 12:00 AM
I love it

as I said in the WIP, great film, great modelling :)

I hope you do more of this kind of work :)
*cough* tetsuo *cough*

03 March 2004, 12:00 AM
hahaha thats so cool :applause:
only thing i think it needs work on is the it HDRI? if not i would make it HDRI, give that really real look, but thats awesome.

kaneda is 16, you really think he should look much older?

03 March 2004, 12:33 AM
Hey there cool model although the pose could use some more work. Right now it's a little plain, not really dynamic. And his Left knee seems a little twisted in relation to the ankle.
Otherwise it's cool.

Dreamy Kid
03 March 2004, 05:40 AM
it would be great if you can post a few close up shot.

03 March 2004, 08:27 PM
Ok, i textured it with procedural textures (dof a little reduced) :

03 March 2004, 09:08 PM
Very cool, that's much better now :)

03 March 2004, 10:01 PM
WOW! this is great! although the textured version is much more akira manga then the akira anime... but i really, really love it.

no chance of you doing the huge gelatenous blob in the end, huh? *sigh*

edit : it would be really grand if you rotate the hand - not the one holding the gun, the free hand - just a tiny bit down, because seeing it straight from the fingers gives it a distorted look. if you really like the pose, maybe just move the camera a bit lower / higher

03 March 2004, 02:08 AM
man thats cool i like the model althogh the scene could rpbably use a little work. nice touch with the poster in the back.
i loved that movie. does anyon know where to get blue prints for his bike?

03 March 2004, 02:30 AM
awesome work nanabaky

but the arms look kinda thin to me

03 March 2004, 05:12 AM
WOW cool^^ ..
is he animated and may i see the wire?

03 March 2004, 09:08 AM
fantastic :bounce:
it really looks like a statue at first, instead of a 3d model

03 March 2004, 02:56 PM
i have been working on a beam cannon for almost two months now! but i cant seem to get any detailed pics of the handle and trigger assembaly! could you send me a ref pic of the triger and handle area if you have one!...please! i have everything else already done but i cant get the damn handle right!

oh yeah kick ass model of kanada i have the movie on dvd! had to learn japanese to watch it but im better for it!

03 March 2004, 06:22 AM
Tad, yes it was a joke/obvious statement that there isn't much to look at.

03 March 2004, 10:58 PM
wow. these are excelent. I like the untextured one a little more though. It might be his expression in the textured version.

03 March 2004, 11:02 PM
I was just thinking that it would be really awesome to see you experiment with the texturing. Maybe one version can have more realistic textures vs one with a more toy-like feel. Or maybe a toon shaded one. anyway...awesome awesome work.

How long did the model take roughly?

03 March 2004, 08:15 PM
the character is modeled and proportioned very nicely, clothes, gun & all, but for some reason the guy i know as Kaneda in the animation looks nothing like that lil dude!:surprised it kinda resembles the female he was rolling wit in the flick.. but i'm not complaining, you got the textures down pat except for the piece of ground he stands on which coudl use a lil more bump or something to kinda make it look a lil less slick.
maybe some pebbles or rocks on the surrounding ground to kinda add to the lil atmosphere, other than that, rock on amigo!:buttrock:

wow, i love it

in some ways I like the untextured render even more

Hi, good overall work.
Ok, first off, he looks nowhere near to Kaneda...Not the anime or the manga...And not the figurine, as I have one with his bike on top of my monitor :) From McFarelane...
Just wait a sec I have the manga here somewhere... I could post some images...

12 December 2004, 02:42 AM
Just some pics, the first I found :).. I think he looks a tad older in the anime, but I dont have it here...

Ok, here they are...
